im with jeff, offsides is a stupid rule. if you hang back, you cost your team a defensive player so there's a risk reward to it.
it's not like basketball has been hurting due to this. It seems like a lousy rule invented by someone constantly on the losing end of the game whining that ITS NOT FAIR, like those people who complain that throws aren't fair in fighting games.

Rooting for anything soccer-related is thoroughly un-American.
Offside is like 90% of the reason I wouldn't ever watch soccer as more than an oddity.
But if the US wins the men's and women's world cup I'm pretty sure legally everybody else has to call it soccer for four years. That seems like it should be right, at least. Then you'd be rooting both for the US and for the goal of annoying soccer fans all over the world. That's gotta be worth something.

If offside didn't exist, with how accurately midfielders and defenders can distribute the ball nowadays from pretty much any distance, you'd just have a long ball game with target men trained specifically to win the ball in the air. Goal poaching shouldn't be rewarded.

America cares so little about soccer and/or women's soccer that the only reason I know USA won is because some of the japanese accounts I follow on twitter were talking about it.

But, like Jeff said, why not just have two offsides lines like they have in hockey?
Putting the ball in the goal should be rewarded and encouraged.
I couldn't either, but I still knew the women won the world cup this summer because it was all over actual news and social media in ways that those other championships aren't.
I was just thinking this while watching the FIFA quick look. Danny's occasional frustration with Dan is really good too.

I can't wait to have the Destiny raid stream in the background while I do non-Destiny things.
The few times I've watched hockey I'm always really confused about how offside works, but I don't care enough to look it up. So I'm just surprised every time there's an offside.
edit: Also, this FIFA 16 QL was really good. But I'm not really a fan of the game itself, feels like they're just making it slower and slower each year.
Good excuse for me to not buy this current expansion and just wait for the next one, now that I can watch other people doing the best content.

Finished base Destiny last night. Might have been one of the worst final bosses I've ever seen in my life. Fuck.
The Crota and House of Wolves stuff was considerably better than the main story missions, but wow am I glad I didn't pay $90 with tax for this last year.

If any player on the offensive team crosses the other team's blue line before the puck, that's an offside.

that sounds like a more exciting game to watch. having watched that argentina vs chile match during the summer i was bored to tears with the lack of anything happening at all. maybe throw out some of the more restrictive rules that penalize the better fielding team that favors a more balanced game and let people get wrecked
Oh okay, seems easy enough. But with how fucking fast hockey is it'll probably still confuse me.
In a way they have it since you can not be offside in your own half.
If they removed the offside rule defenders would never be able to leave the edge of their own box becaause for example Barcelona would just leave Messi, Neymar and Suarez at the edge of the box so the defense would have to stay back and the opponents would do the same which leaves only the midfielders in the middle 80 yards it would be awful football.
It's confusing when the defense knocks the puck out of their zone even for just a second, forcing everyone on offense to leave the zone before the puck can go back in.

They kind of artificially slowed it down because pace has been such an overpowered thing the last few years. At least now I've had way more plays that resembled the real thing in terms of build up and reward than previously, when I could just run past to the goal. A ton of fast players had their speed ratings nerfed, it's a bit ridiculous.
I like it because I can finally use slow players who are really good otherwise.
With how bad the referees are in basketball, it kind of is.
Yeah, that's how it feels like. Ronaldo was so overpowered last year, even with how good he is in real life. But turns out I like my football games at a certain pace, this year just feels so fucking sluggish to me.
Me too, I'm irrationally excited for this thing to start so I can half pay attention to it.

Would be nice to see more of him, yeah, but this way GB 'gets' him without having to include him in their budget.
