Anarchy Reigns and Madworld are both terrible by the modern 'terrible' metrics of video games on the internet

Madworld was not good I agree with that but Anarchy Reigns is fantastic. It got a little bit weird online when people figured out how to break some of the systems and cancel moves you weren't supposed to be able to cancel though you had to practice quite a bit to pull that stuff off. Resulted in some pretty cool combos.

I suggest you go see the IGN demos. There are plenty of videos showing the gameplay loop. Just because you failed to find things others have doesn't make the PR mishandled.

Unless you are deep into video games you wouldn't have any idea about what No Man's Sky gameplay except "you fly in space and go on planets" and this is a video game that was on a big mainstream tv show.

The PR has been mishandled, that is not even up for debate.

Yeah I had to skip to the last ten minutes or else my health would rapidly deteriorate like Jeffs. It's pretty crazy though, I don't think I've ever played something where you spend close to three hours stuck on the same boss. I've heard mmo bosses can get pretty extreme though lasting tens of hours.

If you're a firefox user download an addon called DownThemAll. JDownloader is also a good desktop app.

Copy paste these links into a text file. Within DownThemAll there is an option to import a download list, use that on the text file. Jdownloader will probably detect the links the moment you copy them to clipboard.

Jeff and Austin make it fun to watch but no they are pretty much focused on the task at hand for near 8 hours. I think the fun stuff will end up in a clip on youtube at some point so I'd just wait.

Yeah I've definitely spent longer on WoW bosses. I kinda miss that to be honest, if Destiny was on PC I might give it a go. The final boss fight looks really well designed.

Yeah for sure, some of the stuff I've read about Everquest raiding is pretty crazy, too. But I'm a baby MMO kinda guy anyway.

Yeah, although Absolute Virtue in FFXI was just straight up bullshit, a lot of people believe it was a marketing gimmick so SE could boast having a boss no one could beat.

Thats about the same level of knowledge the mainstream audience has about most game, don't think that proves the point, especially for new IPs. As an example, Destiny had been shown at multiple E3 but people still didn't have a clear idea of the gameplay loop until the beta hit.

For what it is, No Man Sky as an concept really hits home even for people with no interest in video games.

As I said, none of us planned for a fight that long. When we hit the 8-9 hour mark and thought we reached the end, only to see a whole new set of mobs that PW would replicate, we thought of giving up. But we didn't want to have it all be for nothing, and instead pushed further.

Despite how long we had been fighting, we were still having a level of fun before we saw the last set of HNMs pop. After that it was more for the sake of beating it than anything.

It's hard to just give up on something after spending so much time though. When you've been going for 10 hours, another few doesn't look so bad... And it just kept happening.

It is/was a weird combination of ambition and naivety and experienced devs making something really odd. I'm amazed that it went over as well as it did with people

Most if not all of WoWs raids encounters since Wrath can be done in 10 or less minutes when properly geared and people are aware of the how to do the fights. The problem is a lot of times people go into those encounters the first time with neither of those things. You aren't supposed to, but it's just how things pan out for one reason or another. It's only really world firsts that should should be taking 10+ hours to do and a lot of that is because those encounters are super buggy from a lack of play testing and because people don't have strategies for them yet. There are exceptions like the Mimoron hard mode fight that was mentioned. But it's worth noting that encounter is done in hard mode mostly for prestige reasons and to get a very very rare mount drop. It was never tied to normal progression.

I don't know a ton about Warframe, but I bet at release that raid was fairly time consuming too. I also haven't seen the Destiny stream, but I imagine that raid could probably be done in less than hour once people are geared right and they get whatever patterns they need to down. It also probably wouldn't shock me if people claiming to know what they were doing actually went in their blind. People learning mechanics on the fly is always what makes raids drag on the most.

I liked raiding a lot there's nothing quite like it in gaming and I would still be okay dedicating 6 hours a week doing it like I did once if I didn't have to do all the bullshit of farming on the side to do it. What was on paper a 6 hour time commitment split across three separate days often ballooned into 12 hours across four days instead.

Well, it being DE's first raid ever, I want to say it was only a couple hours? There's another part of this game, the transmissions coming in on the sides of the screen, that kind of explain the objectives and when you mess up. So learning is very quickly what's going on was fairly easy. I'd say what took the longest was that first segment, because it's not immediately clear how that battery bomb works at first and key team design hadn't been formed yet.

I'm hopeful that the next raid with the Jordas Golem, our own ship-sized necromorph, will probably be a more refined design.

It always sounds like a game that was actively working against it's player base, I wouldn't expect that to work for an MMO and yet a whole lot of people seem to have really fond memories of it.

What made me stop using HTML5 on GB was the horrible audio de-sync that occurs a bit of time in. Wonder if it's solely a Chrome thing, though.
