Is there even such a thing as slice of life television anymore that isn't primarily a comedy?

Something like Friday Night Lights maybe? That's one of the best and most underrated shows of the last decade or so I think.

Speaking of TV... You guys should totally check out "Wayward Pines". First season ended recently. I watched the second episode yesterday and it's really great.

One big mindfuck and a great cast.

If you like Wayward Pines, you should check out the show it's a 91% carbon copy of: Twin Peaks.

New season in 2017!

On account of there being no five guys restaurants where I grew up and me thus having no clue of their existence, the primary thing I've come to associate with its name is fucking goobergate. And now I have this bad feeling every time I read it.

They really managed to ruin EVERYTHING.

Yup!

I'm not looking too much into it though cause I don't want to get spoiled. This is definitely a "big twist" kind of show.

Haven't seen the show myself, but it seems that M. Night Shyamalan is having somewhat of a resurgence this year with Wayward Pines (he directed the pilot and serves as EP) and The Visit (his first "Fresh" rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes since Signs in 2002).

Oh no. New Mario Maker patch will add hidden P-Switch doors. The rivalry is getting new life.

edit: Oh nevermind, they aren't hidden. There's an outline around the shape of the door. I can see the bouncy donuts being the world's worst thing though.

I've seen Twin Peaks already obviously. Great show (well most of it) but I don't really agree that WP is a carbon copy. Other than the fact that it's in a small Pacific Northwest town, the two shows are nothing alike.

I thought it was primarily sports drama?

It's about teens who play football (and their friends and families) more than about the football itself. The bits where it's actually about the sport, rather than the people playing it, is like 1% of the show.

Dope as shit, but the whole point of P-Switch doors is that you can't see them.

It's going to be fun seeing Super Mario Land-esque boss fights.

I decided to back Max Tempkin's Secret Hitler despite owning Avalon at the behest of my darling wife. I also got the Cards Against Humanity pack coz I figure no one else I know will have them, so it'll make playing with us a little more fun. I hope GB does a livestream of this like they did with Avalon. I hope they do more tabletop stuff regardless.

Imagine if Life is Strange had writing as good as Friday Night Lights.

I love both of them, so *shrug* What they have in common that they both nail is the painful transition from teenager to adult, and the pain of leaving/returning to your hometown. The sense of melancholy that pervades both of these resonates with me.

did their community shrink drastically or have an exodus? I swear theyve been on the same thread for months now

Mods came down hard on the thread after they had begun to basically go through one thread a week or so, with it acting more like a general chatroom than anything else. There was also some anime porn posted IIRC. So a lot of people left and they have to stay on topic.

yeah

then again, nintendo didn't take the placement of secret doors to a sadistic level in smw as the community would undoubtedly do so it's probably for the best that they added the outline

That sounds pretty good.

But then again.

American football.

Which I guess I won't mind as much if it's more about the human element, which I feel is a key component of slice of life.

I'm from Ireland, so I know literally nothing about American Football and I still adored FNL. It's just a really well written drama with great characters and great actors. The 2nd season takes a nosedive in terms of quality btw, but it redeems it with the next season being incredible again.

people are going to make shitty levels no matter what; Nintendo shouldn't take it out on us

Same but I'm from Holland and I didn't think S2 was nearly as bad as people make it out to be, although it ends abruptly due to the writer's strike. Season 3 is definitely better though.

I thought Friday Night Lights was a movie

It is, based on a book. The show is loosely based on the same book. As in, it takes that concept but has entirely different characters etc.

I think it's still worth watching, there's some great moments in it, but it's hard to deny the Landry/ Tyra stuff was so bad. It's also worse in retrospect since they pretty much try to ignore everything that happened that season in the future episodes. So the storyline to do with that hispanic kid seem really bad when there's no conclusion, and the Landry stuff seems even worse when they try to turn him back into the sympathetic guy from the first season etc. It's still alright though.

There's nothing in there culturally that will trip up an Australian save for maybe just how fucked US higher education is.

You mean if it bizarrely dove into a murder sub plot in its second season?

Yeah yeah yeah I was gonna make a joke about that. Mistakes were made and they thankfully torched the memory of all that shit in the later seasons.

Yeah, the sports drama isn't the draw. It's used as an opportunity to explore how football towns can be these weird toxic environments where the people who grow up in them often never leave and end up as sad adults trying to recapture the glory of their high school years. And then the kids who are caught between their lofty dreams and the familial strife going on around them.

I'm just watching a bunch of attitiude era RAW to compensate for the lack of content.

The New Age Outlaws tied up a dumpster with Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie in it and pushed it 10 feet off the stage. Then they stopped the show for like 30 minutes in kayfabe to really sell the injuries and to make the NAO even more heelish than normal.

Then Stone Cold started feuding with Mike Tyson.

Ninety-five 100 Mario Challenges later, I got all of the Amiibo outfits in SMM. That's 1,392 levels I had to beat, but it sure as shit beats paying a single dime for any Amiibo.

someone give me an idea for a level to make
