Astronomy Dan has a long long way to go.

Well, so does Vinny. Didn't he say the moon was just something wayward caught in Earth's orbit? The moon was the result of a space rock (asteroid, comet, or even planet) that slammed into early Earth. The chunks hurled out into space. The moon is part Earth and part Earth-smasher. In fact, I may be wrong, but the existence of life might have something to do with that collision.

Oh lord, Danny likes Wagamama's and Nando's as good eat outs. The pizza place he was talking about sounds like a pizza version of Shake Shack.
Sounds like a few Irish friends I know.

Moon is caught in Earth's gravity, slowly escaping at a speed of 2 cm a year or whatever it is. So that part is correct. The Moon's origin I don't think was in contention there.

I wonder if Jeff will fly out to NYC for the new PlayStation thing because he likes hardware reveals or if they will just send someone form the NYC office.

Beastcast + 2x Jeff would be cool.

Random Q; what's the state of Gamespot these days? I never interact with the site, but I get the sense that a lot of personalities/production talent have left over the past year. Do things feel as ominous as Danny occasionally makes them seem on twitter?

They have talent but they just don't know how to show'em off. Also, most of the people who review games and have a very long history with GS left, so.

They've diversified. From the various periscopes and Lobby episodes I have watched, they have hired quite a few staff. They have hired specialist technical staff for reviewing and testing of GPUs and hardware.

Moreover, Comic Vine is now absorbed into a new initiative called 'Gamespot Universe' which covers comics, films, TV, etc.

There is probabaly a lot of information I have glossed over or am ignorant to, but the jist is diversification into wider media.

The top brass from Iron Galaxy is in the house to discuss hot Hitman strats, true cross-platform play, prerelease No Man's Sky, and more!

They are underutilised but their core audience has shown a distinct lack of interest in personalities. I bet their freelance reviews get similar traffic to the staff reviews they used to write in house, at a fraction of the cost.

It is a sad state of affairs, but if a well researched article on the economics of game development gets similar traffic to "5 best Game of Thrones Fan Theories" - you can see the reason for the shift.

Danny is an odd fit for that site. If it were not for factors - such as his love of the site since he was a kid and his foreign national status - I suspect he would have moved a while back and would have likely had a raised profile.

For a second, I thought we got a new Game Tapes, but then I realized it was just a raw upload of the Seaman video. I think something is lost by not having Jeff's reaction to the lunacy of that thing.

A chef has to be trained for years on how to prepare a raw seaman. If the poison sac isn't properly removed it could contaminate the meal and kill whoever eats it.

Maybe I'm crazy, but - listening to the bombcast - I thought the way they were fixating on the day 1 patch was weird. It's certainly unfortunate that people without an Internet connection won't be able to download the day 1 patch, or be able to get any content they put out in the future, but that stuff has been industry standard for... what, at least 2 years now? At this point I'm surprised when a game DOESN'T have a day 1 patch.

I'm really tempted to get NMS, but its longevity concerns me. What is that game like after five hours? Ten hours? Twenty? That's what I'm waiting to hear.

Well, if someone can't do patches, then they can't do firmware upgrades and have their consoles as they were at launch. PS4, if you recall, added tons in its initial firmware upgrade.

the way I see it is, it's understandable to have bugfixes and tweaks in a day 1, but to have the purchasable, playable version on disc be a drastically different game than the one with a day 1 patch is kind of shifty. and I guess that's only a thing because we still have physical media for... reasons. but at a certain point I want to say, hey, maybe finish your game more than one day before release maybe?

so whether the end result of it matters or not, it does kind of speak to a grander problem of deadlines and expectations and the state of game development.

Just noticed people saying that Jeff streamed NMS last night, but I don't see any past broadcasts on his twitch channel, and there's nothing yet on GB unarchived. Is there any place to watch it??

I think playstation firmware still comes on game disks too, whatever is the most recent as of the game going gold is put onto the boot sectors of the games to keep your console up to date at least a little bit

No man's sky is not a large game, they could've put 45GB of firmware on that disk if they wanted to

Brads comment about not seeing much difference between planets is making me think early impressions will be wildly different based on luck. My starting planet was super lush with plant life but only had small animals and had these really weird rock formations all over. My second was basically barren. The third had giant bipedal deer creatures and various medium sized quadrupeds that looked kind of like dinosaur cat deer. The fourth world which is the one I'm currently on has low atmosphere so my life support drains quickly and has no life but is full of resources.

System software updates are included on physical game releases, no?

Oh, they do? I remember that some games did that on PS3. I always had an up to date firmware, so I never updated via disc. I think Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction was one of those games.

At a certain point, they have to get Lang on a Hitman video. Show Brad and Dan how it's done.

Also, Dan finally joined in on one of GBEast's silly voice bits in the NMS QL. He did a voice and everything talking about painting his Dolphin.
