To be fair he (with Brad) had already destroyed Jeff and Vinny complaints about Fallout 4 so much so that Jeff had to scramble to find new complaints and came up with stuff that applied to all older Bethesda open world games.

Funniest part of that discussion was Dan asking Jeff how he could not have seen standard Bethesda jank coming a mile away. They showed it clearly at E3 what Fallout 4 was.

I'm missing the sarcasm here, right?

Brad and Austin (especially Austin's) defence of Fallout 4 was terrible. It basically amounted to "you shouldn't expect more from one of the most experienced RPG devs in the world, even though they sell tens of millions", "their games are like clockwork, if a clock was constantly broken and none of the parts were even designed to work with each other in meaningful ways", "making games is hard", oh and "I got to make a basketball court".

Like, I actually lost a bit of regard for him as a game critic given how much of his argument was based on not critiquing. It's the antithesis to his job.

edit: oh, and to add insult to injury, at the time I'm pretty sure only Jeff had finished the game.

I agree with this statement, though swap out "Witcher 3" with "Until Dawn." Game had a ton of issues but I had far more fun with it than the vast majority of the games that came out that year.

My hope is that Fallout 4 was an attempt to differentiate the Fallout and Elder Scrolls brands by making Fallout the goofy, mass-appeal open world shooter with leveling and crafting while Elder Scrolls focuses on being a deep, atmospheric open world WRPG.

I know this is not true but let me believe.

MGSV was easily in my Top 3 of the series when I first played it but I'm not sure if it will become a game I revisit every few months like 2 and 3. I still love most everything about it but dealing with the resources and timers again on a fresh playthrough seems like it could make deleting and restarting saves frustrating.
