Giant Bomb #9 | More Dan Meets The Eye

ANOTHER DESTINY VIDEO?? For a game the guys aren't in love with, they sure are giving it a lot of hours.
It is a lot of coverage, but I think most people are very interested in what the game is like, whether or not they are getting it. Personally, I've liked seeing such extensive coverage on such a high-grade release. I was particularly hoping for a comparison video, so I'm glad they're doing a last-gen QL.

Also, it's been really cool seeing their opinion on the game degrade with every showing. The Destiny PS3 QL in particular is one long, boring slog where they let out their disappointment with the game. The final minutes are especially telling.

Let's give Drew a break on his MGS shenanigans. Not everyone can immediately understand game mechanics. I once played four square with a baseball bat... and four years later, I'm out of prison and a well-adjusted individual.

HOWEVER, even a bat-wielding maniac on the tarmac knows to not pop diazepam until you're ready to take a shot! It's written on the frickin' box!

Not even remotely. What's wrong with wanting to drink shit that tastes good?

Nothing. People buy $100+ bottles of scotch because it tastes good. Taking that stuff and dumping Coke into it is fucking stupid, because if you only want to get drunk and prefer it to taste the Coke, you should use some $15 vodka instead.

It'd be like buying a $2000 HDTV and using it only to watch VHS tapes over a coax connection.

Dan is making poached egg whites for breakfast. He found this recipe on the internet.

But it was a gift for them to use as they please. He drank it in the method he prefers and didn't hamper anyone else's enjoyment of it. It's not like he emptied the contents into a half full jug of Pepsi and swished it around.

I'm more off-put by Brad and to a lesser extent Alexis being snobs about the whole thing.

The people cringing over Dan's treatment of the Scotch is silly. Even the best alcohol tastes like shit compared to soda or juice. Might as well mix it with something tasty. If you have to leave something warm or let it get watered down first or whatever it's probably no worth drinking in the first place. Similar to my philosophy on coffee. Anything you have to add that much shit to is probably just gross.

So anything that contains a few ingredients is gross? Don't be ridiculous.

Man, on one hand Dan is telling Drew exactly what to do all of the time. On the other, we'd probably just be getting to the tank if he didn't.

During his fight with Sniper Wolf, all I could think of is that carnival game where the duck goes back and forth while the shooter tries to hit the bullseye. Drew was the duck.

" Even the best alcohol tastes like shit compared to soda or juice"

like wat

I love drinking don't get me wrong, but it can be like taking medicine sometimes. Even the nicer varieties of beer, rum, whiskey, etc. I've had doesn't compare to how good Mountain Dew tastes.

Don't understand why people are giving you shit. You are absolutely right that soft drinks taste better, I don't understand how people can taste otherwise.

If you think liking the taste of alcoholic drinks somehow makes you more adult you need to fuck off.

you have not had good alcohol lol

And you know this how?

I suppose I never learned to enjoy the taste of bitterness in any capacity and that's shaped my opinions fairly significantly. I hate dark chocolate. I typically hate the kind of beer that beer connoisseurs get erections over. I hate the funky aftertaste of diet soda. I love whiskey but I hate the burning feeling as it goes down. And more than anything else, I hate coffee.

I won't pretend like my opinions are normal, and pardon me if I inadvertently do.

Different strokes, man. I love high hop beers and porters, wine that tastes like earth and dirt, and whiskey that burns. Hate sugary, sweet alcohol.

Mountain Dew>$100 scotch. Oh my god.

Purely in terms of taste, yes. I've had really nice scotch on a few occasions, and while I enjoyed getting intoxicated from it, the act of consuming it was less than pleasant. Even in terms of alcohol, I'd rather have some Maker's Mark or Crown Royal or even a few ice cold 40's.

I don't think we'll come to an agreement, but hey, people like different shit, so enjoy what you enjoy!

People's tongues are each partial to their own particular nuances and preferences. Furthermore over time your taste buds also change and some flavours become more or less pronounced thereby influencing how you feel about food and drinks.

In terms of pure quality, of course the $100 scotch is going to beat out a mass-produced soda, but if I'm like "man, I just want a tasty drink right now, alcohol or not" I am gonna go for the can of coke over the ridiculously priced vodka in a dumb looking bottle.

I can't think of an alcoholic beverage (excluding mixed drinks) that wasn't an acquired taste. Especially if we talk about premium products.

I liked beer right away. I liked Jameson and rum right away. Bourbon took a little longer. I've never really gained a proper appreciation for scotch (not a big fan of the peat).

Mountain Dew tastes like ass

I'm one of those crazy fucks who, unless I'm having espresso, likes coffee brewed strong and black as the night. I know people who put like 4-5 creamers and sugars each before they can drink it, and that seems crazy to me.

Regular Mountain Dew tastes like chemicals now that I've given it up. Throwback tastes good though.

And is it ales that typically have high hops? IPAs seem to be all the rage, especially with craft brewers, and that's the kind of beer I have no taste for. Stouts though, oh man. Really really good.

actually I'll revise my opinion to this. throwback is fine. regular tastes AWFUL if you aren't used to the taste of HFCS (I've avoided soda with that in it for almost a decade when possible).

Stout is a kind of ale. Any beer can have lots of hops. Craft brewers in the US tend to add lots of hops to a bunch of different styles. Many America pilsners are quite hoppy, like Firestone Walker Pivo Pils.

Rogue Shakespeare Stout is quite hoppy.

Sam Adams released an imperial pilsner years back that had more hops in it than nearly any other beer I have heard of. The amount they added was more than double the amount of hops I put in my already ridiculously hopped double ipa.

I'm 25 and never had a salad. Lettuce is pointless and gross.

I agree with Dan and Jeff on their food comments. Everything is awful for you now and every year they come out with something new that's apparently not actually good for you. Give it a few years and salads and veggies will end up somehow being terrible for your health. Bread and milk used to be good for you now they're somehow not.

My grandfathers and men of their generation ate bread fried in fatback and grease for breakfast everyday and offset it by manual labor and exercise. And they lived into their 90's. You got vegetarians and hippies and people dieting dying off at 50 and 60. Are we really healthier these days? Do we really know more about living right?

I'm with Dan and Jeff. Eat what you like and what tastes good, try and offset it with exercise if you choose to but stop worrying about everything. If you stress about everything and diet and freak out over every carb you're gonna die 15 years earlier than you could have.

Video Buddy is lagging like crazy on my iPad mini the last week, while running fine on iPhone. Is anyone else having problems with it?

This the most internet of internet discussions. Everyone stating their own opinion as fact. No quarter given.
I always assume an implied "in my humble opinion" and expect others to approach posts in the same fashion, unless the information given is clearly denoted as factual of course.
