Was it Norm or Will or Gary that was in charge when Tested did that "build a gaming PC" feature where 90% of the comments were that they spent way too much for what they got

It was Will.

Kinda crazy that a former editor in chief of Maximum PC couldn't build an affordable gaming pc.

Why is it bad? I don;t follow Tested too much, but I like their videos/
They just make really awkward videos when trying to be informative like the build a PC stuff. They usually have too many people all fumbling around one machine and trying to explain stuff over each other.

If it's just Dan, Brad and Norm, then it should be okay. It's when Norm and Will are together it all goes to shit. It's like they compete with each other rather than compliment.

The $1500 PC in that GAF build guide has done me greatly so far.
Fucking solid bunch of pragmatic dudes in that thread.

$1500 is quite the amount for a PC in 2014, really. I feel like people have 90s numbers stuck in their heads when it comes to gaming PCs.

As Dan loves 5% of the things in this world with a sublime beauty and will randomly troll the other 95%, it is inevitable he will annoy everyone at one point or another.

I built one in early 2013 for $1200 which included some unnecessary upgrades (SSD boot drive for one) and it still shreds all games on near maximum settings. $1500 is a pretty good budget.

I'd have to really try to spend $1500 on a PC. I felt like I was needlessly spending when I built one last year for ~$1100.
I still think about the eggshell story.
I actually thought about it again a couple days ago and I really don't see how it can be true. If you've ever hard boiled an egg, or had sunny side up...or hell seen any egg represented in a children's book or something it has the eggwhite there. It's white. I hope Danny O'Dwyer is open to taking questions before heading to Dan's for Thanksgiving. I'd love for him to ask Dan's mom for the story from her perspective.

I really hope Norm gets Dan to delid his CPU. I was shitting myself holding that hammer, I can only imagine the potential damage he could do.

If you have nothing to start with, and like nice things (4k/1200p, 120hz, gsync etc), it's real easy to spend $1500 and then some.

Y'all need to relax. Was it not just days ago when Jeff was quoted saying "I wouldn't let anything that dope says about stuff he doesn't understand get to you" in regards to Dan? Chill.

Though that Metro quicklook did make me miss Patrick a bit.

I assume Dan has nothing right since he's using a laptop, so $1500 sounds like an appropriate amount for a great PC with a good monitor and other peripherals.

That was my train of thought when he explained it. He went to school and had to have seen an egg at some point, reason why I was so amazed. I really do hope Danny can dive into the psyche of Dan, for Earth's sake.

And to people saying 1500 USD is expensive: Its possible to go that far. I spent 700 bucks last holiday, because I really needed a new desktop. And I got a new monitor for 160. That's about 900 right there and that's with me comparing prices for months.

Oh then I got a new keyboard later in December to for around 40. Not to mention my PC isn't even some super powered beast but its no slouch either.

No, it's just for the tower. He has a monitor and the other stuff according to Twitter.

Haven't watched the Metro QL yet, but if Smash fans are complaining about that QL, they need to grow a thicker skin. It's not like the Musou QLs where I just wonder who these QL videos are even for.

Okay then don't pay attention to the PC part of my last post then. No idea how he is spending 1500 bucks.

It'll get you a lot of power, that's for sure. Reminds me that I need to get a new gaming PC.

I find most of the Musou QLs to be pretty funny, so that's good enough for me. But if you're looking for information about those games, you need to look elsewhere :p

True, I hope this thing is a monster when its done.

I think its a bit more than the Smash QL but, that's me. I say watch it and see how you take it.

Giant Bomb is a website run by people who will tell you, without flinching, that Majora's Mask and Yoshi's Island are bad games. I don't see how you could be angry at Quick Looks by this point, we've known the crew are monsters for years.

Any time Jeff does his 'ehh I like this game because I like bad games' voice, I just reference this literature. Which is kind of funny in itself because generally speaking, my tastes line up the most with his. But then when there's one where it's difference of opinion, it's a huge difference of opinion.

The most interesting thing about if Danny O'Dwyer ever joined Giant Bomb would be the flaws that would be discovered about him.

Has there been any criticism someone has voiced about any coverage he has provided in relation to Giant Bomb to this point?

That Metro QL is quite possibly the worst QL that has ever appeared on Giant Bomb.

The worst QLs are always the ones where they're "meh" on the game. Actual opinions, positive or negative, are always more entertaining to me in QLs.

Jesus Christ. I didn't know about this review. Wow, 5/5 to MK vs DC. Jeff's tastes really are unpredictable.

Jeff is the biggest Mortal Kombat fan in the world, so it's not that surprising :)

Danny's super charismatic though and whenever he says something I disagree with, he says it in such a way that you can't get mad about it because it's just like he casually dismisses it. O'Dwyer's on another level of talking. He's like Vinny tier likeable. It's why I thought people were crazy for thinking GB would get him because Gamespot NEEDS him.

At least Vinny loved Binary Domain. Reminds me I was gonna reinstall/replay that. Hell yeah!

I don't think I've ever gone from really disliking a game to really enjoying it so quickly than with Binary Domain.

It makes such a bad first impression (everything up to the swimming sequence) then suddenly gets fucking awesome. Defo deserves a replay.

Smash looked like a Smash game. The kinds of things Smash fans want to know about the game aren't going to be demonstrated by casual/non-fans of the series. It's a weird thing to QL as a result. It's like if Jeff were to do a Dota 2 QL. Even in an alternate universe where he was totally hyped on the game, it wouldn't be useful to veterans or newcomers to the series just by nature of the game.

Dan would love Binary Domain. It's totally like an action movie.
Well said. I was just telling someone I loved it because it's exactly like the Sci Fi movie romps I adore. Fifth Element level of fun.

Totally agree. Carefree attitude, plus being a foreigner makes him an interesting person to listen to, and yeah he's integral to Gamespot.

I had completely forgotten about the self serious opening, wow hahaha you're right. Once they meet a couple of the other soldiers it gets amazing.

If GB needs a game to shit on for traffic, just have them QL another fighting game they don't like.

Remember the MvC 3 and Blazblue reviews and QLs?

My takeaway from "dramas" like this one is that for a lot of people it's always funny to hear someone shit on a game until it's a game you like. Criticising a QL is totally fine, but holy SHIT at some of the comments on Youtube and on the site. It almost seem like some of these dudes have never met an actual human being before.

I just spent $1500+ on a PC. It wasn't too tough. 4790k/Z97 mobo/GTX780/16GB RAM/256 SSD/1 TB HDD/R4 case/BD burner/750W PSU. But I want it to last quite a while so I didn't mind spending the money. Dan might be the same way.

Watching the Metro Redux QL to hear Dan state that he hates games that make him sit through loads of passive storytelling.

Also re-watched TLoU Remastered QL recently in which he says it does stealth 'way better than any actual stealth games'.

So... what is that makes Metal Gear his favourite series?

(I say this partly in jest, he was pretty self-aware about it in the Metro QL)

It's the strong anime overtones, clearly.
