But again, that's not exactly new to the site. They do QLs for bad games that everyone think are bad all the time, and do nothing but shit on the game. People don't react because no one cares about those games (see the Rambo QL as one example). There's really no difference between that and the Metro QL, other than the Metro games having fans who actually like those games.
Dan even says that the game is well-made and produced, but not for him. I've heard more "aggressive" opinions on GB than that QL.

Posts like "Every other person comes informed into a quicklook just Dan doesn't read up on it! He didn't even know how much the game costs!" pretty much show that people are able to create parallel universes in their head.
There's always a version of that comment under negative QLs of games people like for some reason. But the comment section under this QL has been absolutely pathetic. I usually like the GB community, but holy shit at some of those comments over a fucking Metro QL. Find something important to get angry about, jesus christ.
My parallel universe is Vinny, Dan, Dave and Ryan playing Pathfinders all day

I found it entertaining, and i didn't think he was that harsh on the game, he even complemented it in places and said it wasn't for him. People like to get angry over perceived slights.

I'll concede that I didn't make it through the first five minutes of the QL. I was speaking a tad more generally, I suppose. This applies to things he really enjoys too, like MGS1 in the MGScandlon series.
I'll willingly concede that I'm probably overreacting. He seems like a decent guy and if people like his schtick then I have no right just be an asshole about it. But, uh, sometimes it's like "just say something, Dan. Anything."
The crux of it is that Dan missed the point. He even said "I just want the Dead Space projection menu's" or something similar... It's a post-apocalyptic game which is not set in space.
I agree that Metro has its faults, but if you're not gonna give the atmosphere/setting/tone a chance, then why bother? That's the meat & potatoes of both Metro games.

He's also established on numerous occasions that his degrees are but a farce. Save yourself the headache.
Well, he "majored" in it but he never went to class. He said he spent all day drinking and writing video game reviews instead. And that's why he graduated in 5 and half years.
Hey, not every quicklook is entertaining to me either. It happens. But the backlash is mainly coming from people who are fans of the game. They need to just get over it and understand that GB is a personality driven site filled with people who are pretty outspoken with their opinions.

The thing with Alex is that he is basically infamous for his Big Rigs "review" (I think those videos have since been deleted from GS after the upgrade unfortunately), so him playing budget games and ranting at them is just one of those things. You notice how he doesn't do the same thing for any other game - he didn't like The Gods Will Be Watching at all, but he didn't spend 10 minutes yelling at Patrick about how much he hated it on their podcast.
I don't even mind characters - since I do like AVGN and Spoony - but it's just the combination of making extremely declarative sentences and having no one there to respond to them that makes it hard to listen to.
Admittedly, Dan calms down after he switches to Last Light and then just goes into happy clown mode (subtitles? Why would I want to read in a movie?), so it's not like a thing he is trying to maintain for 20 minutes. But that first part was just really off-putting.
I mean, what if the Warriors Orochi QL was just Jeff yelling at the game for 40 minutes? I know I would have just turned it off because that's not what I'm looking for - especially in an unedited "live to tape" format.

Why care so much if Dan (or any of them) doesn't like a certain game? I understand caring to the point where you can have a bit of discussion like "I can't believe so and so doesn't like such and such a game, here's why I like it", but getting angry about it is just dumb. If you think their opinions are stupid, just laugh it off and forget about it. Their opinions don't change anything about the game you like.

It's not just Alex playing those games though, they all do from time to time (random Steam shit, Barbie's Doll House or whatever that game was called), and they tend to shit on the game for the entire QL. I remember people begging Jeff for a QL of Rambo just to hear them rip it apart, and there's now a thread about that Duck Dynasty game with people hoping that GB will QL it. Dan might've been a bit aggressive in the beginning, but my point is that this QL isn't really different from those kind of QLs: Someone has played a game they don't like/have heard is bad, and do a video whose sole purpose is to shit on the game. Some of GB's best QLs are just that.
I'm not even saying I liked the QL that much, it was alright but nothing more. But we've seen this kind of QL tens of times before, it's just that people decide to lose their shit because it's a game they like.

Dan's face during that sequence was hilarious. Dude was on the edge of his seat ready to explode. You can say a lot about Dan, but whether he's positive or negative, he's always at 110%.

Sometimes I'm still surprised at what can make people really angry. Like, some of the comments in that comment section should get those people banned. And this is the reason you decide to get that angry?

Yeah. Between Dynasty Warriors, Destiny, Smash, and now Metro... its been a week full of "Fuck Jeff/Brad/Dan because they hate this game that I like" comments.
At least on GAF you can say the comments come from people not familiar with GB's style. But if you have a GB account, surely you're well versed in what to expect?

Maybe I'm just forgetting some of their old QLs, but they have tended to avoid things that they don't have any interest in. Otherwise there are so many JRPGs that they could QL and rip into.
But even then, my favourite content isn't even them ripping into games. Remember when Brad Muir showed up in a tux to help them QL Wheel of Fortune?
There are times when Jeff gets "fake mad" like the tail end of the Game Room QLs or when he sat through that Mario Party thing they did a while ago, but I don't know if I have a favourite moment where Jeff is yelling at a game. Hell, even his Funky Barn stream/QL could have been him just yelling at how bad the game is, but he doesn't really do that.
So if Dan and Brad do the P5 QL and Dan trashes it will you again be surprised that the comments section is full of vitriol?
I never played Metro so Dan hating on these games doesn't bother me. But there's a dedicated fan base for the series, and its well regarded by the games media in general so this type of reaction was basically guaranteed.

Yeah....I wish I could do the same and save myself the headache, but I just feel like it hits too close to home sometimes. During the latest bombcast, I couldn't help but just be kinda pissed off and I suppose jealous how Dan just conned his way through college from the sound of it. I mean, he didn't even fucking go to his classes, and the professor gave him an A??! I got teachers right now who spent the first fucking day of the class imprinting how you fail if your attendance is poor.
I work my ass off in school right now, and he fucking got away with being a fucking con-artist basically, just pisses me off.

I honestly thought his Halo Novel dig had more "impact" since he was targetting the fanbase with that one. Maybe its because i don't care about any of these recent games (liked Smash Melee but everything in that series afterward gets a fucking meh from me) i'm not seeing it *shrug*

Funky Barn is pretty great, so no need to yell at that game
Drew is rad but he consistently brings the worst/most boring games to UPF, and doesn't have a great sense of when to wrap it up.

I generally don't like that stuff unless it's edited for comedic effect. So Red Letter Media's reviews of bad movies are like that, and so is stuff like AVGN and the like. Stream of consciousness rants just don't do anything for me unless it's a genuine live reaction (which only happens when they literally take a game out of the shrink wrap and put it into the console right before the QL).
As for talking about different things, yeah that's true. I think broadly speaking, I'm just generally turned off by "Ben Kuchera" and "Arthur Gies" personalities. I can avoid them because I just never visit Polygon and, until someone spams their tweets on GAF, I never have to see them.
The problem is that I love GB content, and I can't avoid that stuff if GB starts turning on the Kucheraisms in order to try to get more hits and whatnot. That's more what I'm reacting to more than anything else.
I put that in the same genre as that Wii Fairy Tale/Story book game that they played ages ago. lolFunky Barn is pretty great, so no need to yell at that game

Does anyone remember a guy on the gb forums who used to get real mad about their wii quick looks? He was a dude at least in his 40s, who posted pics of himself and his family standing beside mountainous piles of Nintendo games they owned. He and a group of others called themselves the wii defense force and were pretty vociferous in said defense of wii games, and ultimately all got banned for personal attacks/insults towards Ryan and Jeff in the comments section. I still can't understand why they got so angry, especially considering the crappiness of some of those games.
