Giant Bomb (and friends) GOTY 2010 Awards

Man, Brad's list is so bad. Enslaved, Dead Rising and Limbo aren't really very good games.

Is there a list for every spoiler per episode ? I still haven't listened to the second GOTY podcast since I haven't finished a lot of the games they are talking about.

People have been posting spoiler lists, but pretty much every big western game gets spoiled.

Opinions, butts, etc...

Fixed that for you ;) I liked Red Dead but just like GTA 4 its gameplay became tedious quickly and I gave up after a while in Mexico.
Mexico did drag but after that it's a lot more compelling, and the last few hours are incredible.

Except Jeff loves GTAIV. So he is weird that way.
And yeah Mexico sucked. I kinda wish it was cut from the game. Almost made me not finish the game. :/

So is the GOTY podcast heavy on the spoilers? I really want to listen it because those are awesome but yeah i don't want to get spoiled too much.

Kinda agree. Also, Red Dead won best story which is probably the strongest reason why the game was even considered for GOTY anyway.

Brad: "[Deadly Premonition] is nonsense." *puts Heavy Rain as the 9th best game of the year*

Speaking of nonsense in video games...
Brad put HR in his list because of it's goals as appose to it's execution. I think that's fair enough. It's actually the opposite direction I think games should go in, but it did make a very bold effort to do something a very certain way that no one else has really tried.

Oh man, watching their day 6 recap video makes me want to fire up Mass Effect 2 gain. Someone gif Brad's slow-ass strut at the end of that video. Anyhow, great choice gents!

Me too. After the initial cool factor of the wild west and horse riding and the vistas wore off, the game was just cookie-cutter GTA.

I'm not defending the game, it is bad, I think in some regards it's brilliant also, but it certainly isn't in my favorites of the year. But I can understand why people would include it. It was admirably ambitious, although misguided.

That's fair. I just share your sentiment on it being the opposite direction of how I want games to go. Ah well.

No question there. I think a poorly acted, poorly written, ugly interactive film is the last thing I want from video games.

I'm listening to the podcast right now, GT5 was not in development for six years, it's been six years since GT4, but they made a game between those. And they started 'GT HD' and scrapped it to make GT5 instead. It's more like three years.

Man, I love Jeff most of the time, but some of his opinions on games are just retarded. I can't even imagine how someone can love GTA4 and absolutely hate the controls of RDR. It's the exact same thing, but polished up a bit. I don't think its perfect, but come on!

The mapping is worse I think. But mechanically they operate nicer. And the horses after a while are awesome, but I found the first few hours pretty damn rough.

I just started to play RDR and I get everything that he's saying about it. I spent my money on it, so I won't be walking away from it, but it does not just shine right away.

Have to say I absolutely love the way Vinny's evil lady Shepard looks. I'm on my second Mass Effect 2 run right now and I'm also playing a Lady Shepard infiltrator on insanity. I can't get myself to take the renegade route though.

Yeah I felt the same way, I loved the opening movie, and Marston, but other than that it was a few hours in before it really all felt right for me. Stick with it. Mexico is going to drag too, a lot of flip flopping with Marston completely indifferent to any of it (it's very odd actually, a whole arc in which he never exerts any sign of caring), but after that it's awesome.

Really happy with the choice of ME2. What I am more happy with is all the content that the Giant Bomb crew put out over the last week. If it wasn't for the Steam sale I would be a Whiskey Media member this month. I'll have to wait a few weeks, but I will be signing up.

By far and away the best site content I've enjoyed in a long long while. Now, time to play through ME1 and ME2!

The lack of Galaxy 2 was a tad depressing, especially given that their criticism was that it was more of the same...

But really a great, big thank you is due to Giant Bomb for an amazing amount of content produced.

The only thing is that DP actually tells a semi-interesting and coherent story whereareas Heavy Rain feels like it was written by 6th grader (and that's not hyperbole).

Bold effort or not, I don't think games should be rewarded simply for ambition, especially when they're as atrocious as Heavy Rain.

Some great discussions on a wide range of games on this last podcast, one of the best they've done. A fitting recap of the year.

I would kill for an iPad version of the Codex.

Shame, you missed one of the best endings in gaming.

Heh, DP even had to take a jab when Brad called Alan Wake the definitive Twin Peaks experience or something in his Top 10 video. :lol

I disagree DPs story is either semi-interesting or coherent.

The podcast is over, thanks to the guys for these, they've all been quite enjoyable, you guys did great work, maybe with the exception of the DLC debate.

Fuck, really? I haven't seen that. Alan Wake is an expository and self-serious mess. DP actually understands tone and it absolutely nails the mix of humor/creepiness that Lynch's show is known for.
