Giant Bomb E3 2012

You guys should ease up on Max. He's probably nervous. I've met him a few times, and arrogance is definitely not an attribute I'd ascribe. He has opinions for sure, but he's also like really young. :)

he, like other "indie" devs i've met and/or seen, love every chance they get to remind everyone how corrupt and soul-crushing the "mainstream" model has become.

he's not wrong, but this isn't really the best forum for him to pontificate for so long.

I don't know if I would call it "pontificating" considering the conversation didn't last that long and Jaffe had the most to say, but sure. There are indeed two sides to that story and it's not as cut and dry as some of these guys make it sound.

GB's late night E3 ramblecasts are the perfect forum for this type of discussion, though.

This is great - the Day Zero live show started too late for me, I caught 20 minutes but it didn't seem like it was going anywhere. Is it worthwhile to check out, or nothing I'll miss?

Okay, I really disagree with Jaffe on this. Some games can support themselves based on non-mechanical grounds. They're probably closer to visual novels or stories than games, as such, but they're not outliers.

Farmville killscreen.

Make it happen.

Jaffe is so fascinating to listen to. If he sold some audio book series where it's just him talking for hours, I would buy it in a heart beat.

Fuckin Gachapon mechanics

I could actually feel it tugging on me as I was playing. Tribes is probably the only one I would consider paying for.

I don't really agree with the ME3 stuff. It was not hard to get packs, you got a shitload of points ingame and all the DLC has been free, most likely BECAUSE of people breaking banks on these gambles.

Yeah, agreed. I see the similarity to F2P games like LoL, though. The same "in-game points vs. real money" dichotomy is true there, and whether or not you actually spend money seems to depend on the type of person you are.

Hell Yeah just got rated by the ESRB

Platform: Windows PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

Rating: Teen

Content descriptors: Blood and Gore, Crude Humor, Language, Mild Suggestive Themes, Violence

Rating summary: This is an action platformer in which players control Ash, a vengeful rabbit from Hell. As players traverse through colorful landscapes, they use arrows, saw blades, machine guns, and rocket launchers to kill “cartoony” creatures that roam/fly across the screen. Attacks often result in exaggerated splashes of green/red blood, and some enemies are depicted with dismembered limbs or protruding bones. Various enemies in the game are depicted as human body parts (i.e., shaped like a human buttocks) or animated feces, and some suggestive lines appear in the dialogue (e.g., “Every day is Strip Poker Day.”). Edited language sometimes appears on screen (e.g., “f**k”), in addition to the unedited use of “p*ssy,” “bada*s,” and “goddamn.”
