If you're eating a person whole, you're eating their poop. What's a little fart when you're eating their poop and urine?

After finishing Steins;Gate 0 and rewatching the entire anime this weekend, you'd think I could use a break from that universe. Nah, loaded up Steins;Gate on the Vita. At this point I'll have to force myself to start something else instead of spending the next week beating that game again.

I still have that anime movie to watch too...I promise I'll get to Fata Morgana soon.

would you recommend 0 for someone who has only watched the anime?

If you can handle VN pacing sure.

Thing about it is that while it is one of the more highly produced VNs out there it's still a bunch of still images and portraits with a bunch of text.

It's like reading the book vs watching the movie adaptation.

are there puzzles and stuff to solve that would make it hard to progress or is it simple?

That should be fine as it's mostly a new story that ties into the original. Just be prepared for more science than was introduced into the anime. I'd also recommend playing the original VN if you have 40-50 hours and make sure you use a guide from the start if you do. Btw, the anime does introduce one of the characters you'll see in 0, which I had no clue about until I watched the anime again.
I never saw episode 25 and think it was nice to see but love the open endness of the original ending.

There are decision points that lead you down different endings but you can just follow spoiler-free guides for that.

It's also very straight forward in terms of decisions you need to make and when.

I think I'm going just splurge on some VNs this steam sale.

I've already read umineko but I'm down for more dark shit and it's been awhile so I might just read through that again.

If you want some production quality in a VN play School Days.

Do not play School Days. For a lot of reasons. Maybe watch the anime. Maybe. It does congeal all the best parts of that thing into a short series and takes out all the horrible awkward sex

The horrible awkward sex is the point of school days. It's animated porn.

Hey hey hey don't turn people off before they even start.

Like honestly, if you're kinda iffy on anime but want to read a good VN, I'd actually say read fata morgana. If you like the contextual narrative structure that Nier likes to use, and also read what is basically an edgar allen poe love story with an art style that resembles old-school ayami kojima castlevania, read fata morgana.

I'd honestly rank it above steins;gate.

It's the point in the sense of that's what it's sold for, but there are far more interesting parts of that thing. As a parody of harem hentai/anime, it's actually pretty successfully funny. It feels like a harem story written by people who really hate that they're being forced to write that junk.

I played it as part of a bet. I swear....I feel I need to clarify that.

Also the school days-verse family tree is some of the most fucked up shit ever thought out.

Seriously.

Don't look it up unless you want to have a bad day.

Given that team is tasked with writing just the worst trash imaginable, I credit them for at least doing something with it. Like, trying to make one of those VNs that actively shames the people who buy them is at least meta-interesting.

This applies more to the anime than the VN which plays it straight for the most part.

But don't bother with School Days in any format.

The VN has a lot more fluff, especially in the endings, but it still read as a parody to me. The way the main characters behave and just how purely unlikable they are combined with how things turn out for them in the bad ends really add up to that. I also give some credit to the VN for being animated. It's very cheaply animated, but compared to everything else out there at lest that's ambitious.

The anime is a much better experience and parody, but the VN still has that. It's just held back by other requirements.I actually think the anime is legitimately kind of great. Not even in a super ironic so bad it's good way.

I feel that the people who have an intense dislike for the School Days anime are people who really wanted to watch a standard, fanservice-filled harem show.

I didn't love it at first. I thought it was a boring beginning that just led to stupid batshit insanity. After suffering through other standard nonsense, though, I started to see the kind of brilliant parody even in the boring 'standard' sections. The whole thing is kind of 'hey, the people in these kinds of stories are really just garbage humans. Here are the real consequences of their stupidity'

Makoto takes Kotonoha out for dinner, receiving a call from Sekai who demands to know his whereabouts. He angrily blames her for ruining his life and asks for her to leave his apartment, which she promptly does. On her way home however, she catches sight of Makoto and Kotonoha on a train together, and returns. In the heat of fighting, Makoto and Kotonoha make out in front of Sekai, who screams and leaves. Things are worsened later that night, when she receives a text from him insisting she get an abortion. The following day, arranging to talk at his apartment, Sekai brutally stabs Makoto to death with a kitchen knife and flees. She receives a text from his phone that night requesting her presence on the school roof, where she meets Kotonoha. After presenting her with Makoto's severed head, she slits open Sekai's neck with a dōzuki, causing her to collapse and die in a fountain of blood. With her former friend out of commission, Kotonoha carves into Sekai's uterus, but sees no fetus in there according to Kotonoha's soliloquy. Early that morning, floating into a sunrise on a sailboat, Kotonoha is seen cuddling Makoto's severed head whispering that they can finally be together.

Yeah this anime totally sounds worth watching. :p

I'm not even a fan of harem anime and I know to stay away.

Not sure if anyone bothers archiving regular streams now. It's been forever since they lost one of them. Usually, GBU seems to only grab stuff that seems like it won't stick. Stuff like Vinny's pre-fade to black stream chats and periscopes and things.
