I need to finish my switch backlog before i buy more games...
That being said, how is Steamworld Dig 2?! I never finished the first one. In fact, I only played about an hour of it.

Can I jump right into 2? Or will i miss out on very important story elements and character arcs?

I've also played like an hour of Steamworld Dig 1 and naaaah I don't think it matters. The characters explain what happened in the first game in like the first 15 minutes. Dig 1 didn't grab me, but Dig 2 is really working for me. I think the art style is way more well developed and the fact that its hand-crafted levels with little mini puzzle rooms scattered everywhere is really neat

I finished Dig 1 (it was only like 4 hours long?) but you can jump straight into 2 no problem. The first one's story was there more out of necessity than anything else tbh.

Dig 2 is outstanding in every sense. Looks really good, sounds brilliant, controls like a dream and is a ton of fun. I have yet to play Hollow Knight (waiting for the Switch release) but it might be my favorite indie game this year. I do love me some metroidvanias though.

I completely forget what happened in Dig 1, actually, and I think I even played it a while after release.

I'll get to Dig 2 by the end of the year but not anytime soon.

Vinny questioning Mario's racist caricature will always be my favorite moment. Ryan joking "let's define racism on the bombcast!" Jeff realizing that Mario must actually be a genius because he is able to do so many different things. It's so good.

e: anybody played harvest moon on ps4? I am itching to play a sim while waiting for stardew valley switch. I loved a wonderful life on GC when I grew up, but there is another one "save the homeland" that I have never played. any good? they are half off right now.

The Bombcast story I'll always love most was Vinny getting fed up with the neverending summer of Luigi and imagining Mario being the one who would have to put a stop to it. He even foreshadowed the gun toting Mario of Mario/Rabbids. "Are you happy??? It's a-done."

Edit to add: my favorite Dan/Brad moment was when Dan mentioned not liking pears and Brad somehow intuited, with no context clues at all, that Dan had never eaten a pear and was only basing his opinion on pear-flavored jelly beans. Those men had a special connection.

But they always deliver.

I hope Fractured is good, but I'm not sold on it.

Echo sounds cool but looks tedious to play for some reason. The lights going off and then coming back up is sort of like a reset to the A.I, once that happens, it learns from what you did.

Eh Obsidian has made plenty of mediocre games, especially in recent years. They haven't really hit anything out of the park since New Vegas and nothing they've done since MOTB has come close to its quality. 2004-2010 Obsidian kind of doesn't exist anymore either, they've lost a lot of talent.

I mean, yeah Dungeon Siege 3 and that Russian tank game are whatever but Tyranny and Pillars are god tier RPGs.

They're both mediocre games. Tyranny had potential, but mostly feels unfinished and the last 3rd isn't great. Pillars was disappointing and suffers from strange design decisions and poor writing. Maybe Pillars 2 will be good, but I'd be shocked if they delivered anything on par with MOTB.
