Giant Bomb X | Built-In Automatic Death Thing For Secret People

I genuinely can't decide.

- 1 had the biggest impact in my entire history of gaming. Nothing has ever blown me away like the first time I played that game.
- 2 was such a huge improvement and I absolutely love the story. The more I played it and the more I understood what was going on, the more fascinated I was by it.
- 3 had an amazing, almost self-contained story that I loved from beginning to end. I love The Boss, and that final fight and everything about the ending is perfect.
- 4 kind of does the impossible by actually tying up all those insane loose ends

The only one that isn't really in contention is probably 4, but I hesitate to say that since it's the one I remember the least about. I beat it twice when it came out, but haven't touched it since. I bet if I went back and played it (which I'm thinking about), it would go up quite a bit in my head. That's what happened with 2.

Interesting, so youre mostly ranking them by story? I thought the gameplay in 3 was so far ahead of the other games

Download the latest patch, do the full install, replay it without skipping anything. MGS4 in 2014 is crazier than MGS4 in 2008. Parts of that game are unbelievable.

As some people said, the Avalon video is even better the second time through. Danny in the second game is just amazing.

Also, as I was rewatching that movie today, I was thinking...film studies major Dan Ryckert hates movies with subtitles, but man he really should watch The Raid.

The Raid is on my short list, after Demolition Man and a couple of the animes that people have sent me.

Is Demo Derby going on break while Drew is away or is someone going to take his place for a bit? There is so many discs to go through

MGS3 might be the only one in the series where I can look back on and say "I think I loved everything about this game."

You should check out Strike Back if you haven't yet. It's a cinemax military/espionage action series with better action choreography than a lot of recent action films. Basically every season is one arc composed of a bunch of two-episode arcs that end up being their own little 2 hour movies. First two episodes of the cinemax series is pretty much a Die Hard movie

Naming comes from Push Email, e.g. something that is pushed to the user without a preceding trigger user interaction or a set timer.

But isn't that just a notification though ? When someone sends you a text, is a push notification what notifies you or is it just a notification ? I've always called those "notifications".

What don't people like about MGS2? It can't still be Raiden after all these years, right?

I'm not one of these people, but I can admit that there are legitimate reasons for disliking 2 that aren't related to the frustration of having been played by Kojima.

Just to name a few things some people didn't like: defusing bombs, escorting Emma, swimming, having to get to a nerd node in each area to turn on the radar, sitting through way more codec conversations (some of them being like 15 or 20 minutes long), that mindfuck of an ending, etc...

It's a lot of little details I think. Some of the plot points are just a bit too ridiculous (Ocelot's new arm), the cutscenes need some serious editing to cut them down, and it maybe takes a few steps too far with physical impossibilities. Also, Rose.

That said, it's still my favorite of the series, but I definitely recognize that a lot of people might not be able to forgive the tonal exaggeration of MGS2. MGS1 still felt like it had a level head on its shoulders despite some of the mystical stuff here and there.

you know i kind of always wanted to do a dota stream for extra life

maybe ill do it this year

i could focus on like playing with gaffers or teaching beginners or something

its dumb as shit

I love Drew and all, but I think Jeff could add so much to the Derby since he was around the industry when those discs were made.

And I also would've loved to see him go off on that Weird Eyed Rave guy.

I would quite like all of them playing them together but I understand how long these demos go for and how that would disrupt the day.

I think a rotating second person for Demo Derby while Drew is gone could be interesting. Dan + Jeff, Dan + Peter Brown/Danny, etc.

WAY too much time spent inside the Codec, which is just bad videogame storytelling, imo. The lengthiest convos in MGS1 were maybe 3 minutes? I saw them recently on MG Scanlon, and it stood out to me that they weren't that long, the longest are the ones where you first call Meryl and those Naomi conversations. They are more frequent+longer in MGS2 a lot of the time. There's just nothing going on there, it's boring to watch. Also, Rose.

The endgame is totally stupid, lengthy codec conversations aside. It reads like someone took 2 philosophy and intro to communication studies classes and wrote a first draft of what became MGS2's ending and called it a day. I applaud it for its audacity, unfortunately it just isn't very good. It's almost redeemed by swordfighting 43rd President of the United States, George "Solidus Snake" Sears on top of the treasury building in NYC, but not quite.

Also the game is heavy on backtracking, annoying timed events, annoying swimming parts, and Big Shell overall is not that interesting to look at.

MGS1 and 3 are the good ones, and MGS1 only if you were there at the time. But we're back to an uneven numbered installment so fingers crossed for MGS5.

I thought the design of the big shell was actually really cool.

No specific plans yet, but there's a decent chance we'll get some Demo Derby episodes with different combinations of cast members. We've talked about it. Metal Gear Scanlon is set, on the other hand.

Pull a Metal Gear Scanlon 2 and switch things up, in honour of the series that spawned it.

Dan Ryckert is in here now? That's pretty awesome. Do any of the other Giant Bomb fellas use Neogaf?

Also, any word on Brad and Destiny's raid? I'm almost perfectly following his descent into the game. I tried the raid for the first time last night and was honestly pretty shocked at how well-designed it is.

You didn't happen to receive any of the original ps1 pack-in/bundled demo discs did you? Like demo 1, or the registration demo?

edit: nevermind, I looked them up and demo 1 covers stuff you've already gone through, except for kula world

Does any one know of the post on GAF where someone explained the plot of metal gear solid 2? They made the point where Kojima wanted us to be Raidan. We got to look at this world / story from a fresh perspective or something like that. I dunno if this is a well held theory but I remember it making total sense when I read it. It may have been in a lttp thread. Can't find it though.

Kojima has said that was the point of MGS2.

The only people who don't like MGS2 are Philistines who think Rambo and Predator are the height of cinema.

So I'm always surprised that Brad is in that camp.

The only correct answer. I see you are a man of taste and sophistication. When I started drinking coffee regularly, I went full black and never went back. Boggles my mind when I see people I know dump 4 creams and 4 sugars each into a single cup of coffee.

I still need to buy a french press tho. And find out how best to make espresso at home.

I love that movie, and now I need to watch it again. I'd crack open a beer, but then I might develop a drinking problem.

You're like the coolest person in this thread.
