I haven't listened to the Day 2 podcast yet, but I'm guessing it has to do with the different nature of the two features. From a consumer point of view, I look to reviews for an objective, critical analysis (ideally). GOTY lists are basically a "favorites" list, based mostly on subjective criteria and personal preferences. So yeah, personally, I'd see bias as an issue in one case and not so much in the other.

It's the same reason I'm not getting all bent out of shape because they don't acknowledge Ghost Trick or Deus Ex: HR.
 
I look forward to GB's stuff every year, and they haven't disappointed. The FMV style videos are hilarious.

Can't wait to listen to the Day 2 podcast later tonight.
 
Jeff hating Catherine makes me kind of sad. Pretty much means the game is dead in terms of awards.

Same with Dark Souls, actually.

i can't wait for the inevitable saints row vs skyrim GOTY arguments. i think saints row takes it because they all actually played it. and i think that would be cool because skyrim will get a lot of love from numerous other websites anyway.
 
I really can't wait till the Long GOTY debate podcast's go up at the end of the week.

From the twitter messages when they were doing it, apparently it took them a while this year to pick one.

I just love the arugments they have. (I think Jeff filibustered last years multiple times)
 
ghost trick will have a second shot as 2012's 2011 game of the year, if it comes out on IOS next year.
 
I'm surprised that Mortal Kombat wasn't even brought up for Most Surprising. Those games have been just god awful for a long long time, and the reboot has pretty damn good.

Jeff didn't think MK vs DC was awful. And I don't think they were surprised at all at MK9's quality, they've been hyping it since it was announced.
 
You really can't look to Giant Bomb for anything about handhelds. For the most part they ignore them when GOTY stuff rolls around. Not that they're being mean, their tastes are unfortunately just super focused on the HD consoles.

Their tastes should be focused on the best games of the year... :/

Bah. I know they don't give a hoot about handhelds, and understandably so when they've been so light on quality games this year (and the HD consoles have had so many), but platform shouldn't matter. They paid attention to Mass Attack, they should pay attention to Ghost Trick.

That's how Jeff explains it on the podcast.

A review is advice to a potential buyer. The GOTY stuff is their own personal opinion.
 
I don't even care that Ghost Trick didn't win anything, I just wanted to at least hear them mention it during deliberations. But yeah, it's clear they didn't play enough of it or are just waiting for it on iOS so they didn't feel the need to mention it. But it's not even that long of a game guys, and yeah, two quicklooks too. C'mon.

Also a better adventure game than L.A. Noire.

I damn near drove off the road this evening while listening to the day 1 recap "bombcast" The 3DS sing-a-long was almost the end of me.
The world is a better place because giantbomb exists.

Power; so that was the name of that godawful song that's been haunting me for the past months. The trackmania server had that song in about 1 out of 6 tracks. At first I hated it with all my soul but lately it doesn't even bothers me anymore. Jeff ruined my life :(
 
This is probably the best GOTY award show from any site I've seen. Can't wait to see the other guys' ridiculous costumes.

I hate Kanye West but that song is pretty damn badass.
 
I enjoyed last year's shows, but I had to shut this first episode off due to how often they kept talking over each other.

"AOIUNGLSIUHWNRAWLOODSUAREWLARWEALFHJ" does not make an entertaining listen. :\
