Giant Bomb's Game of the Year Thread: Skyrim? Skyrim? Skyrim? Skyrim? Skylanders!

So offensive.

Quoting this so it will be on the new page. Excellent.

Played my first 4 hours of Saints Row yesterday. Guys.....you should play Saints Row.

One of us! One of us!

Seriously guys, you should totally play Saints Row.

Just got done listening to the podcast. Props to them for putting Dragon Age II as most disappointing game of the year. Well deserved.

Yup, was my pick as well. They took something that was pretty great and totally destroyed it. For me even so far that it might have killed the franchise for me.

I've been working through the deliberations podcasts one after the other today and god damn Brad just steam rolls his opinion sometimes until he's listened to. The whole thing with Dead Space 2 being on their best graphics list, he just went on and on until the rest finally gave in. And again arguing with Patrick over Bastion vs. Sword & Sorcery soundtrack, "I've not played Sword & Sorcery but Bastions soundtrack is better". Ugh, Brad.

I thought outside of the first 2 missions, the first 4 hours are kind of the weakest part of Saints Row, it doesn't really become what everyone is excited about until you're so powerful that there's really no reason not to aim for nut shots on every enemy.

I'd like to know how much Patrick played of RE 4 HD to come to his opinion that it was a poor remake/HD update. Kind of reminds me of all the fud there was around launch about it being based on the PS2 version. Apart from a few poor textures, the 360 version I played was a fantastic experience and I was happy to pay the "high price" of $20 for considering I got 40 hours of entertainment from playing it on Normal, Professional, Separate Ways and The Mercenaries.

Ico/SoTC is a deserved winner of the category, though.

There's definitely some slow parts in the middle, but the last third of the game is the best part.

Hmm... I dunno. There's a few good parts at the end but I don't think it ever hits the highs of the first two or three hours.

That middle section killed any real love for the game I had. It dragged so much I was just bored - even the dialogue couldn't save a lot of the missions.

I do understand the GB guys loving so many elements of it, because I do too, but as a whole package I don't think it's that strong. It's about two thirds filler, one third gold.

I can tell this thread is going to get interesting once it becomes official that SR3 is their GOTY.
I'm kind of hoping for Skyward Sword to be completely left out of the top ten. Seems like it could happen since only Patrick played it, and its omission would result in some fun times.

Not to sideline this conversation with boring numbers, but this is easily checked!

I'm kind of surprised to see a quarter of your visitors are female.

2 million a month seems like a lot. Good for Giant Bomb. I think CheapyD is doing fine with a quarter of that number since from his podcasts it sounds like only him and one programmer run the whole site.

I find it slightly crazy that they get that many visitors a month considering their videos almost never go above 100k views. Heck, the Chrono Trigger endurance runs have 15-20k views at most on youtube (add maybe 10k subscriber views to that though).

How does one find out how many views a video gets on the site itself?

After (sort of late SR3 spoilers)
falling out of a plane in a tank while shooting other tanks and jets and landing (safely, I should add) to find that there has been a zombie outbreak then getting tasked by Mayor Burt Reynolds to eliminate the zombies. Then, having done so I was given the option to either have a mob of zombie homies or the ability to call Burt Reynolds in to combat any time
was the point at which mind was blown into a state beyond repair.

SR3 changed my life.

I don't think you can. Since non-subscribers can only watch on youtube, I just add the YT video views with my estimated number of subscriber views. There were around 12k before TBBLS so maybe they're at 15k or something now, and I'm doubtful that all of them watch every endurance run episode (I know I don't).

I loved the first endurance run, its actually too much content to watch so I haven't watched any of the ones since.

Ah, right. I forgot about the youtube switch. Thanks.

How'd you find out they were at 15k subs now though? That's pretty good, in my estimation. I didn't think it reasonable to expect to double their numbers every year, so a 3 - 5k growth strikes me as pretty all right.

Edit: Oh, and I love the CT ER. SO. MUCH. I watch it every morning before work. Stunned at how well that game worked out for an ER, and how much I'm enjoying the personalities of it. Maybe I'm loving it because I never played the game, though.

I think it's because they make video game coverage so fun. GB was what I used to get my girlfriend into podcasts years ago.

There are so many aspects of other gaming sites that aren't appealing to me, so I can imagine that certain things really don't appeal to females.

If you like games and cool people, you'll like GB, regardless of gender.

Played my first 4 hours of Saints Row yesterday. Guys.....you should play Saints Row.

Specifically, you should play Saints Row 2.

But for those who are going to buy The Third, there are plenty of deals on the game, don't pay full price. At least then when if you pay for the codes to unlock the other stuff in the game you will not feel as bad about it.

one of my fave podcasts.

Wombat is the hardest mother fucka coming straight outta Massapeekqua. To be serious the best thing to see was Giant Bomb really become the most popular gaming podcast and website, especially because early on Cheapy was such a doubter. I listen to CAG and giant bomb for the same reasons really.
