im so blind. fffffffffff. i need to do more reading and level up on this ....

When is skin supposed to be cared for????

Dont listen to any of what I do, I have perioral dermatitis on my face so I have to be extra careful.
I wash my face every 12 hours and try to do at least one facemask a day.
Morning:
1. Exfoliate with baking soda+water (every other day)
2. Wash face with a gentle non foaming cleanser
3. Use a home made face mask
4. Moisturizer: Put coconut oil on my face, then put a hot, wet rag over my face for 2-3 minutes. Wash off remaining.
5. Exfoliate lips with homemade recipe of honey, coconut oil, and brown sugar
6. Oil pull with coconut oil for 20 minutes (I usually do this while taking a shower)
7. Brush teeth (have to use non sls and flouride free toothpaste)
8. If my eyes are puffy, I put cold potato slices, cucumber slices or green tea bags on my eyes for 5 minutes.
9. Apply Sunscreen on face and body

Night:
1.Wash Face
2. Brush teeth
3, SLEEP
Its typically not good to wash so often, but I have to to keep my dermatitis at bay. Gluten, yeast, flourids and sulfates cause really bad reactions... :(

Edit:Reading this I sound so vain. Also Sunscreen is the best protection you can offer your skin! Most people think its only needed in the summer, but the UV index can be high even in the Winter!

My skincare routine is as follows:

At the start of the day: Wash face, moisturize, apply makeup (if I feel like it).

At the end of the day: Remove makeup and wash face, moisturize.

Aside from that, I try to stay hydrated, and make sure my pillow cases are clean. Nothing too crazy or fancy. If there's a pimple then I'll apply an acne solution to it.

Edit: Oh and avoid the sun. That's actually the best advice I can give aside from moisturizing your skin. The sun is bad.

Edit 2: Oh and don't smoke, drink heavily, or do drugs.

arsenic, and kathryn, thanks thanks thanks <3 i will make notes

.... i havent washed my pillow cases in a while >___<

i never got acnes, so i just neglect my face like the horrible ingrate that i am.

edit edit: arsenic, you dont sound vain at all! you sound like you are a good caretaker of your body (and face) <3 really <3

edit: oop. i love the sun. and i drink wine often. .... >___<

My skin switches from either okay to pretty terrible. I tend to break out if I'm super stressed.

Use a moisturizer with SPF if you like the sun. haha

Dont worry! Occasional alcohol is fine ;) I drink wine or a shot (or 2) of vodka daily.

Also this is a handy site for seeing what's in your cosmetic products and how safe they are.

Hahahahahaha.

But it's true. Does your room have a window in it? Your bathroom? The living room? The dining room? Your office?

THEN THE SUN IS GETTING TO YOU. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Haha, the sun is like an evil villain you can't get rid of. It sucks for me because I am a pale ass Russian/Austrian/Irish girl. I don't do well in the sun.

Also I'm going to be doing laser hair removal and I'll need to avoid the sun as much as possible then. *Activates vampire mode*

I like to imagine that I transform into Vampirella.

*Was going to find a SFW picture of Vampirella but is having a hard time doing that*

I used to love Lady Death as a teenager - epic comics. There was the occasional appearance of Vampirella too and that was totally badass. :D

Btw girls, I hope this isn't against the rules, if it is - feel free to delete it, but I have a blog-thing for games and skincare/makeup if it interests you :3

http://healthynerdism.blogspot.co.uk/

thought it would be nice to share, since I mostly use it to make friends and share my knowledge anyway. I may or may not be addicted to Korean cosmetics. I've found they do the job of a high-end brand, but for 50x cheaper. I love them.

I do absolutely nothing skincare-wise, apart from my usual morning shower. I don't wear makeup either. Woo!

Women can be as anti-women as men.

You gotta watch out for, "Well, women do it to!" when rebuking some arguments.

Yep, I've had the misfortune to bump into them elsewhere, including one who said say things like "women have all the privileges, patriarchy is a conspiracy theory, women lie all the time about being raped, most feminists actually hate all men, blahdy blah blah". Fun times.

No judging! You can do whatever you feel is right. I personally had terrible skin as a teenager, it was acne all over it and damaged my self-esteem really bad - that's what drove me to look into skincare and taking care of my skin to look nice and keep it healthy. If you have no need for that, then I'm jelly ;)

Thank you! There's more hair tips on the way, since I recently had another accident with dying my hair lol, couldn't get rid of all those crazy split ends. I'll write about it on Tuesday. Tomorrow's Gaming Thursday :D

im in this camp but i wanna appreciate myself and my sisters from the other side of the coin's approach better toooooooooooo

water is my only skincare product, but i think it'd be awesome if my skin stays the way it is now in the future, so... im going to heed these awesome tips being shared here and even if i cant apply them all, i'll definitely be trying to pick a trick up or two

also i think, for special occasions, it'd be great to know some basics about make-up. idk.

ilu all girlgaf

addendum: ya, i've met my share of anti-feminism women, it's so ridiculously frustrating. one of my best friends, whom i used to really like is turning into one of those women who is convinced that feminism is just 'posturing' and that men and women are inherently different (in the way that men are always better)

suffice to say, i've lost respects for her.

I'll have to agree with backslashbunny on this subject, especially for you ladies, over 27 years old, because this is when skin changes and becomes more affected by the environment. I do the holy trinity every day (cleanser-toner-moisturizer), simply because I live in London and if I don't do that my skin will be covered in acne, spots and I will most likely get wrinkles when I hit 30. Sunscreen also slows down wrinkle effect, because the sun is the biggest reason you get them to begin with and if you live in a country that uses hard water, like the UK, your skin is most likely dry and needs moisturizing.

I'm not a big fan of heavy makeup, but I appreciate makeup and do my best to master the 'no-makeup-makeup look'. It's like enhancing your natural features without faking anything.

EDIT: Though, to be fair, if I lived somewhere in the mountains/land/middle of nowhere with fresh air, no pollution and good water I'd probably skip most of my daily routine and just enjoy mother nature. Sadly, I'd get bored far too quickly in such a place :(

Ah I can sympathise with that, I had some acne problems too as a teenager - it was horrible. Ever since reaching my 20s though I haven't really had any outbreaks, which is a relief.

(I love how obvious it is that the "bro" has been erased and replaced with "sis" :p)

At the risk of sounding like a nagging mom, you should use sunscreen and moisturizer ._.

(HONESTLY. Sun damage is really bad for your skin! & moisturizer is to just keep it hydrated.)

I mean, you don't have to, but it's just better for your skin. It's like,, maintenance, ya'know?

Oh to be fair, I do put sunscreen on if I'm going to be outdoors for hours under the bright sun. I rarely ever get sunburned though - I have to spend ages under the sun for that to happen.

Yeaahhh *sisfist*

With the risk of sounding like a lecturing old granny, the point of sunscreen isn't as advertised 'to protect you from the sun during the summer'. There's sun all the time, all year long and your skin is always exposed to it at all times during the day. That's the reason there's so many cases of skin cancer and we get wrinkles. We're always exposed to the sun. So having sunscreen on all the time helps. A lot of youtube skincare ladies have said that and quite a few actresses too, from what I read/watch :)

In Asian culture especially almost everyone wears sunscreen, because they see the sun as one big ball that's trying to kill you slowly, which is more or less what it is and they take measures to protect themself. It's also the reason why having pale skin is seen as something very good in Asian countries like Korea and Japan - for them that's the 'healthy' look. Unlike Western countries, where the 'healthy' look is tanned women, when in fact tan itself is damage to the skin, in any form or measure.

EDIT: I made a blog post about it some time ago, there's a nifty video from Eat Your Kimchi explaining it better than me :D

Heh, Caturday health. :p Jeez, those twin studies on ageing effects are eye-opening, particularly the fifth set of pictures.

I don't really know if I spend enough time outdoors generally to merit applying sunscreen frequently though, since I don't sunbathe and all of my work is done in an office...I've got a naturally olive complexion, which is already a form of weak protection. I live in Australia, but I only get sunburned maybe once every few years or so, and even then only slightly - the type that disappears in a couple of hours.

TIL hair perfumes last much longer and are stronger than body perfumes.

To be specific, I tried this LUSH Sea hair spray yesterday around noon. Over 24h later, just from 3 small sprays, it still smells quite strong and I've been getting a lot of compliments on how good I smell.

My skincare routine involves a lot of Korean products. And sunscreen. Always the sunscreen. It's more about the many micro-exposures that add up over time, rather than the "Oops, spent all day outside in the summer and now I look like a lobster" thing that happens once or twice a year.

Also, went and finally got professionally fitted for a bra the other day. Oh. My. God. It's a life-changer. Go do it, especially if you're not "standard sized" (and even if you are).

Lady Death is awesome! Well, if I could transform into either I would be fine with that, haha.

Thanks for sharing your tips. There are some very useful things I never thought of. ^^

Cetaphil is amazing. Nothing else is as good on my dry skin. Just have to be careful not to put on too much or else it will be super greasy.

This is the one I have specifically used. (It doesn't have SPF though.)

When it comes to skincare, I generally wash my face daily. Then when I remeber to, I moisturize with jojoba oil. Out of plant based oils, it has the closest consistency to natural skin oils.

Lotion will always include chemicals, because it is just oil mixed with water. Since they don't mix, it includes emulsifiers etc to force them not to separate. For someone with sensitive skin, it makes sense to just use oil thinly.

The two biggest things for skin care are: no tanning, no smoking. Those will destroy skin rather quickly.

I really like rosehip seed oil. It's great for your skin, absorbs well, and isn't greasy.

It's my secret magic potion. ;o

Hey girls, saw this and wanted to share, but I knew if I posted a thread a serious amount of shit would hit the fan, but...

Why This Woman Would Rather Read Harry Potter Erotica Than Watch Porn

I've talked about what she talks about a ton before, re: why fanfic is so popular with women, and while I do actually watch porn and enjoy it, she brings up some good points there. I wish there was more options for visual porn aimed at women.

I cant actually read fanfics :< My brain is just not geared to enjoy that genre, but my bestie cant get enough of it. So I understand the appeal. Thanks for link, Fiction! Reading it now, and a lot of it rings so true.

I, too, wish there are more options for visual porn aimed at women. The porn that I've seen so far are so out of tune with what women wants. As in, we completely do not exist as an audience.

Yeah, I even try to browse like, the videos marked 'romantic' and apparently romantic means there's some kissing :/ It's all a bit awful.

Yes yes yes yes

And searching for "angst" usually means there's yelling or fake-fighting before rough-looking sex.

:x

WRONG.

.... butbutbut I love storyline and character conflicts and hot, hot sex, I want the complete package, not just the old in-out-in-out with a slapped on dialog in the beginning...

Storylines like that I find are more in drawn stuff than videos probably because it's more malleable as a form of pornography. Unless you get the crap stuff.

Thanks Fiction.

I agree with her. Fanfiction is really just a lot of us providing what we all look for because other media doesn't really seem to be aimed at us and what we want.

Porn is okay, although really I don't watch it often at all. Most of the time it can be so exaggerated haha

I found a few flicks that are sort of romantic, search up DaneJones on Pornhub, but they are not gross, usually pretty normal looking sex (by relationship standards). I checked out the category called "For women" and there is only 1610 or so videos in there, some of which are not even for women!

The worst is when you click an ok looking video and it turns into abusive porn, where everybody is slapping the girl a ton of times and horrible shit like that...thanks for the ladyboner kill assholes.

When I tried to get into visual porn, it was a huge turn off. Most sites were from the guy's perspective so videos would be focused on the woman while the guy's dick was the only thing in frame and barely said anything. Then there are the ads and videos where the women look like they are in pain and being labeled as 'sluts', 'bitches', and 'whores'. Made me understand why so many women are into gay porn. When it's two guys, you avoid all of that.

Yep! It's one of those things that guys just don't understand: We don't have porn that caters to us. Sure, there are some women that love the hell out of current porn. But most of us dislike it for various reasons, mostly because it's filmed with the male gaze in mind. So it just doesn't appeal to us.

I too have found gay porn to be way more romantic (at times) and stimulating that straight porn.

I'm in this boat. But my gay friends make me feel super guilty about it :<

So I do it secretly :<

Maybe. I'll admit I don't really read/watch porn in general, but there is a smutty Hwoarang/Jin (characters from Tekken) fanfic that I really really like and will re-read on occasion.

I couldn't bear to keep reading, but I saw this site, http://www.postandcourier.com/tilldeath/ , linked on feministing.com with the depressing factoid:
