That whole 'ignoring' thing doesn't work at all. Kids are designed by nature to figure out how far they can push someone before going too far. They do it with their parents as young kids, and as older kids, they do it to the less fortunate kids who are easy to be made fun of. Ignoring them only makes them push further and further until they get the desired reaction. In order to make them stop, fighting is the most effective way. Stuff like ignoring, or avoiding can only go so far when you live around them, ride the same bus, have the same classes, etc. And when it's more than just that person who is doing this, it's harder.

I was lucky that I wasn't made fun of, and my big brother was popular, so I never really experienced that, but the people that did have to go through that really don't have many options.

Violence is the ultimate deterrent. It's sad but true. We still can't get past that primal stage.

There was a time when rockers were all devil-worshiping coke fiends in our jean jackets, fingerless gloves, and flowing hair, and we were going to be "Metal Forever" and the poseurs who crossed our paths were gonna get beat with our wallet chains. 100% Truth. I never really had other kids stepping to me like that. But every once in a while a dude would try to get in my face to look good to his friends. Cause I was the polite black kid that spoke proper English. I let it slide and let it slide till they went to far. One of their friends ended up getting choked out till he passed out and fucked his head up on the pavement when I let go of his throat.

But regardless of that, they left me the fuck alone after that.

Yeah, I'm sorry. Most people don't understand anything until they've lived in a rough neighborhood. When I was a teen I had to play pick up games with ex-cons, gang members drug dealers, murderers that never got caught, the worst of the worst. These dudes were in their 20's and they would beat 14 year boys up that complained about fouls.

When I was 15 I got punched by an ex-con during a pick up game because I was on the winning team. After dude punched me he stood over me and told me that the only reason he did stomp me out with his timbs(this was back in the 90's where some dudes would go home and get their timberland boots just so they could scrap) that he had brought with him is because I was a kid. Then he told me that I should never eyeball my elders. When in reality he did what he did because his team was losing and he was mad.

So no, most people don't understand the hood. People that never lived in a bad neighborhood always want to pretend that they would be totally above it all. That they would never stoop to the level of the riffraff that surrounds them. I can tell you right now that those people are bullshitting themselves.

The real issue though, with any sort of violence, is economical. We can sit here and shit on WSHH all day but the real problem is the lack of mobility for those who want to get out and have to deal with that kind of shit on a constant basis. Some of these people will eventually need to stand their ground or possibly beat the shit out of someone else just to keep others off their back. It's like crabs in a bucket.

See above. Lack of education, lack of options, lack of economic mobility. In order to survive in these places you have to maintain a level of "don't fuck with me." I do blame the individual. But when you have an entire site that's entire existence is 1) Rap/R&B videos (which is fine), and another MEGA proportion being 2) Black people fighting ... yes I think it's fair to start blaming the site.

When I look at deadspin.com fight thursdays (or is it tuesdays? whatever), they have A LOT of poor ass white people fighting. It makes me sick because most are just skinny idiot white kids fighting poorly. Makes me think how different races might think we are just all white trash. So no I don't just think about this in a black only case, it just so happens that WSHH fight videos make up for a shit ton of their traffic. And it just so happens that most of these fight videos are of black folks.

Can't people who grew up in fucked up situations look at a video of someone getting jumped because they didn't have respect and say 'Fuck those fuckheads for continuing to fester our communities.' Instead you get people watching these videos and saying 'Sometimes you have to hit someone!'

Every poor, fucked up community acts the same. There is no way to fix it because people don't want it fixed. You can either complain about the world and beat your head against the wall or you can adapt to survive.

The real issue though, with any sort of violence, is economical. We can sit here and shit on WSHH all day but the real problem is the lack of mobility for those who want to get out and have to deal with that kind of shit on a constant basis. Let me put it like this. I saw a guy's entire jaw blown off from Syria on liveleaks. By one of the syrian military, shot him right in the mouth. Liveleaks is a plethora of different shit. Violence is violence, yes. But that site has it from all over the damn world dude.

Youtube has rebecca black, poor as white kids fighting, blacks fighting, hockey fights, pop music videos, sports videos, and every other video imaginable.

WSHH is called World Star Hip Hop. People already have such a bad image of rap, when your site is called World Star Hip Hop and it just so happens that a MAJOR pull for the site's ad revenue is because people frequent the site because of these fight videos, yes I think it's very fair to say this can make the black community look bad.

Again when you have Hip Hop in your URL, and the site is best known for the fight videos it has (of poor black folks most of the time it seems), I don't think it's beyond reason to assume people will think it makes black folks look bad. The real truth is no community is like this in reality but it paints a bad image. I love Rap personally, but I sure as hell don't go to world star hip hop to listen to music.

Hell yes a kid is better off hitting first against a kid that is going to try and swing on you. Everyone has to be ruthless on some scale at some point in the hood. I would rather sucker punch some shit head than roll with a crew of guys that are sticking up old people in a middle class neighborhood. You have to be prepared to stand up for yourself in the hood and some some heartless shit or roll with a crew. And you don't roll with a crew for free dude you gonna have to do some real dirt.
