God of war Ragnarök delayed to 2022

now i don't feel that bad not getting a PS5 yet.

on the other hand, neoGAF sore on its mother that HZD, GoW & GT7 would release in "Lunch window" or 2021.

Hardware sales can also be a factor. Shooting themselves in the foot to release a bunch of system sellers when it is near impossible to get a console due to supply chain constraints.

Although according to Hermen Hulst it appears that GOW:R, GT7 are all crossgen, so supply chain constraints won't be a big factor here but maybe tweaking both versions to their best and avoiding releasing a half-baked game like Cyberpunk 2077. Actually CP 2077 made a good service to the gaming industry in how to not rush things, even though CP 2077 was in development for like 8 years which is mind-boggling.

Was blatantly premature when they showed it. Even though they already knew it was cross-gen, 3 years on from 2018's God of War was just never going to happen. People spinning it as 'allowing Horizon to have the floor', that's just you telling yourselves it's ok to be lied to; Sony have never had an issue launching multiple games alongside each other (Spider-Man and GoW in 2018 as a recent example). Sadly they knew they were lying but thought it was better to lie for hype rather than be honest.

Agreed, What I am saying is maybe they thought they could get good PR by saying "it's ps5 only", but after chip shortage, they decided to change that.
But it was clear from the start that the game was being developed for both ps4 and ps5.
They could've had "Playstation Exclusive" and it would've worked fine with me.

Edit: While also actually clarifying they are crossgen of course. They could've dropped this while they announced Spider-Man MM was crossgen and it would've been better. Now it looks like they've just let it drag on for a waaay to long time until they have to confess it in a blogpost.

"Sony, it's fine. Your crossgen games look damn fine on PS5. "

No need to hide it. That's my take on the matter.

Jesus. What is releasing this year so?

It's looking like I was right to hold off getting one of the new consoles until next year.

I guess it was expected. now it's cross-gen it will retain similar features to GOW 2018. which looked great, and keeping that locked 60fps. really was hoping for 2021. ugh.

Dont be surprised if this game is actually 2023.

When was the last time a God of War game got released so close to system launch? They never do.

Earlier I said "Sneaky Sony". Perhaps "Slimy Sony" is more apt. Their games must truly be amazing for people to put up with some of their antics. The expanded interior storage situation is something that Xbox would never be allowed to get away with.

Edit: saw the console warring "warning" a bit too late. Don't ban me.

ok but the uncertainty with current covid delays / original plan is in fact more horizon. is it for this calendar year or fiscal one ?

I am ok, as long as they deliver an excellent game, That Corey Barlog is a talented mofo. I hope the story is as good as the previous game, and the acting i also superb. Technically I have no worries, they are on the same league as Naughty Dog, Guerilla and Insomniac fucking technical powerhouses.

Because Covid right? The rest of the world is still working but apparently not video games? It's funny I've played more video games this year than virtually any other year yet have spent as little money as I ever had. Sony giving me every reason to skip them this generation, PS5 is a piece of shit on release and it's still a piece of shit now.

It's likely at this point I'm skipping this entire console generation for PC. With Xbox gamepass, EA PlayPro I have no shortage of games to play and all Sony is doing is feeding their customers bullshit.

I'll still buy this when I get a PS5 by the way.

Im pretty lucky in that my PS4 OG is near silent, it hums a bit on Uncharted 4 but that's it. But yesterday I booted up God of War again and the thing sounded like a vacuum cleaner. I dread to think what Horizon or GoW 2 would do to it :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Like Horizon, it'll still look amazing, legitimately the only thing to complain about is Sony's overly optimistic launch date and some of Jimbo's prior statements.

You still feel a bitter taste in your mouth when you see what PS5-only means like Demon's Souls and R&C. But also if we are one of these suits we would bite the bullet and make it crossgen. GT7 being crossgen is not a problem though, racing games can easily scale.

I made a post a year ago saying that Sony money hating Bethesda games clearly indicated they didn't feel good about their exclusive lineup.

Why aren't you guys still laughing?

If Sony's exclusive lineup isn't good, what lineup is better? Entertain us, let us laugh a bit.

Horizon 2022
Starfield 2022
God of war 2022

Cyberpunk destroying everyone and GOTY TGAs 2021 confirmed
What about Resident Evil: Village or Ratchet and Clank?
Cyberpunk only chance to win such award is for them to patch the game as much as they can before the deadline and release 1 big expansion that significantly improve the state of the game, otherwise i dont see it winning, but due to shortage of games it will get nominated for sure.

Chip shortage doesn't impact the development of these games. They have been in development since years back, if something is crossgen now it's been crossgen since start of development and they could've avoided this unnecessary bad press by simply saying

"Hey, well we have 100+ million PS4s out there and these games have been in development a couple of years targeting PS4 and PS5"

Done, bad PR avoided, clearing out confusion while still providing reasons for the games being cross gen. They haven't commited to all games from 1st party being crossgen like Xbox, but somehow they have managed to make their crossgen games a bigger deal than XGSs output. Completely unnecessary and completely avoidable.
I agree with you on that they could have handled the communication better but let's be real, the only ones getting super upset by this are the fanboys who weren't interested in the games to begin with. Anyhow, as evidenced by this thread and the Instagram post comment section, most people weren't expecting it this year anyway.

Maybe santa monica had fattened up kratos and are now reworking him after the uproar of chubby cheeks aloy in horizon, or even toughen him up a bit more since aloy looks like she could take him in a fight now

Yeah, it's a small subset of fans trying to win some PR-war for their respective companies. It's not that big of a deal, I'm mostly frustrated it gives me the impression of them being purposefully disingenious.

Personally I'm just happy they are releasing actual dedicated next gen versions of these games. Remembering God of War 2 and GT6, this is better in every way possible. Buying GT6 for my PS3 when I had my sparkly shiny PS4 next to it was shit. This is more of a mild nuciance on behalf of Sonys PR-team.

Yea. Sadly I think Sony will more likely be delaying a lot of their games. For a few reasons.

Obviously, because of the pandemic, development and production are not running smoothly.

They(Sony) also have to hold some cards for when Xbox studios drop their line up of games. Sony has to pocket some announcements for this.

Also, they need to get mores systems out so that when they drop games like God of War, they can get those sales numbers. A lot of playstation users are still gaming on PS4 either because they still can't get a PS5 or they just aren't done with their PS4 backlog so they aren't looking to make the leap yet.

Wasn't that obvious at this point, the only thing they showed was a logo, which makes question even bother put that 2021 date in the first place?

They should really stop giving us unnecessary date until they actually know their games almost is ready.

Lol these fucking clowns. It was ALWAYS 2022. The only reason they said 2021 was to bolster the sales of the ps5. Lol who the fuck do they think they are kidding. Every person who saw that trailer said it wasnt coming until 2022 if were lucky.

A crazy expectation they put on themselves, likely knowing full well, it would lead to disappointment. They wanted the best Next gen presentation.
I agree. They fucking flat out lied and every one has been calling them out on their shit for the past year. Sick of fake release dates to get pre orders or look good for investors

The news confirm it was 2021 so these "people" were indeed right.
It was LITERALLY never going to come out in 2021, they can say it was all they want, it was never going to happen and look...its not happening...how are they right if it doesnt come out in 2021 lol

Why is the top comment so edgy?
Because i had to hear about it for months, everyone was like "PS5 has the best launch year ever, we have god of war coming out". No no you dont. Why anyone even believed for a second it was 2021 is just ridiculous.

Dial back the back and forth console warring, kids.

My mod has spoken.

On topic: No one should be surprised by these delays. Hopefully next year onwards we will have more games sticking to release schedules as covid slowly eases up.

Make it a PS5 exclusive if you postpone it to 2022.

Delaying it doesn't really consern me because there's already a shit ton to play and I was pretty sure that GoW Ragnarök is a 2022 game.

Good I mean I have to imagine a lot of people picked it up for the first time on PS5…I finished it on PS5 after only getting it recently so I'd rather they make it true next gen then rush. The 60 FPS mode makes GOW totally worth replaying.
