God of war Ragnarök delayed to 2022

Started playing the first one at 60ps on PS5 again, it's so good. I just hope the sequel, with the extra time, actually is a full complete game with an ending this time. (yes sorry I'm bitter it took the game for me from 10/10 to less than that)

Where are all the people who were so sure it was 2021. Absolute morons. This should not be a surprise.
Yeah people are total morons for believing marketing hype directly from Sony that implied a release was possible. I mean they should fucking test for this shit in school to weed out the fucktards from the possibly useful because it is so fucking important to be right about.

If you actually believed the marketing lie that was the 2021 release date they gave for GOW then yeah you do need to be weeded out and given some real life lessons because you're gullible as fuck and likely to be scammed by more then just a game company at some point.

If people here have been gaming for long as I have been led to believe, it doesn't take a genius to figure this out.

True and if gamers can easily figure this out then so the developers.........so why this?

As I said, 2021 at the first reveal (when was that actually) has always been estimated, like everything works in corporation. Guessed and estimated timelines to have a clear goal.

And are we forgetting Covid ?
Not to mention no piece of media material by Feb / April would tell you automatically this is not releasing 2021.

I mean, even Metroid fans are not that delusional believing imminent launch just from a title card. Pretty embarrassing, lots of crows served for the arrogants.

If they show nothing in the teaser not even CG trailer then its was pretty damn clear the development didn't even started yet, do they really "estimate" it would be coming out in 2021? There was no need to put 2021 there.

I mean, w/out COVID, it could have released 2021 considering it's fucking cross gen.:messenger_expressionless:
That news is still as disappointing as the moment I heard it and will continue to be disappointing after I buy and beat the game, especially knowing we won't get another GOW until 2026 at the earliest.

Yes there was, maybe yes for hype or for investors. Not to mention it could very well have been 2021 release if not for Covid, and I am forgetting the 2021 est was pre Covid or not.

If it was we would have saw more than just a logo on that trailer, there were games that show gameplay and still end up getting delayed let alone this.

They knew damn well it was never for 2021, that little snippet was just to push pre orders. Considering the state of availability of the console I'd say it was totally unnecessary to even talk about God of War, let alone announce the 2021 date without any footage. 🤣🤣

Well then there you have it. You easily made a connection that so less content being shown even with 2021 release screen did still meant it was not gonna release on 2021.

If you're inclining towards Sony be a thrusty bitch and they lied...well then they are giant freaking corporations and wants your money and hype. Also pretty obvious.

I get that but was there need for it? God of War is already big IP and would have build hype regardless there was 2021 card or not.

I wish devs stop putting releases date when knowing full well they are not going to make it.
If there was zero COVID it could have potentially released in 2021
I know the predictable Sony put 2021 to sell units they had 2022 the whole time I know
COVID or not if in the trailer only thing they show is a logo then they are not going to make that release date.

Okay?

My point is they show that 2021 card while 100% knowing it was never going to make that date.
I mean at this point, I don't even care about that deception. I care about the cross gen bombshell and the fact cross gen has wasted a GOW title. Yes it will still be amazing and next gen like because Santa Monica are so talented but man that cross gen bullshit

I'm opposite, I couldn't care less about that, good game is still good game regardless of if it's cross gen or not.

ps5 ssd speeds combined with a vastly superior cpu vs. the absolutely shitty jaguar cpu slow hdd ps4
I wonder what effect that could have on game design, scope, and game specs? Hmm?
GOW Ragnarok will be a next gen experience in terms of graphics and gameplay because Santa Monica are that good
They can make Ragnarok seem like it's a PS5 exclusive when they reveal the gameplay and show us groundbreaking set pieces and game sequences
But...we won't get the real vision of what Ragnarok could have been if Santa Monica were free to push the PS5 as hard as they could
They nearly made the PS4 explode last gen with the first GOW, I'm sure they would have set the benchmark for next gen if GOW 2 were PS5 only
GOW Ragnarok can still set the benchmark for next gen in terms of graphics and gameplay, but we will always know the gameplay would have been that much better if it were PS5 exclusive
For example, entire game ideas will never be implemented because the weak PS4 can't handle it
Cory Barlog spoke about how they had to remove instantaneous travel from any point in one realm to another realm because of the PS4 hardware limitations.
That's just one example of how GOW 2 might be held back unless the PS5 version is vastly superior to the PS4 versions and has PS5 only gameplay features e.g. destruction, AI complexity, physics, more complex set pieces and gameplay sequences, etc.

Kinda disrespectful with what you implying!
Dude you literally got triggered over nothing. Only "pride month" was said and you already pulled out a pitch fork.😂 Take a joke. There are people that will say way worse than that and not accept whatever your way of thinking is. Might as well get thicker skin so when you come across it, you don't fall the fuck apart.😐

I'm type of person that believes good game designs comes from designers themselves not graphics, most my favourite games of all time never had high tech graphics but that didn't stop them from being fantastic games.

I'm not talking graphics
Objectively the specs for GOW 2 will be limited by PS4
Without the weak ass ps4 there, Santa Monica would have been free to push the PS5 as far as they please
Not just better graphics but much better everything

It was pretty obvious from the jump GOW was not coming in 2021. Would not be at all surprised if it doesn't make 2022 either. Horizon will be 2022 calling it right now.

I don't think gap between PS4 and PS5 is big enough that would suddenly change how you play games.
The gap is certainly big enough that's what people are not understanding. The PS4's CPU and HDD speeds are truly laughable compared to the PS5. All the limitations developers had to face and all the little tricks they had to implement to hide the PS4's slow ass and other slow ass consoles before it were removed. Like that example of instantaneous travel being removed from the first GOW I provided. Developers tended to run into problems in terms of loading speeds and the CPUs becoming obsolete pretty quickly when every they tried to implement their ambitious ideas. Entire game ideas will be made possible due to the presence of new technology and much faster speeds, and set pieces, game sequences, mechanics, and the computational side will be improved. Developers can start experimenting with new game ideas that weren't possible before and push the PS5 to see if it can handle it. The part I looked forward to most was Sony's talented first party studios taking advantage but that will become a wait and see thing with this cross gen bullshit.

It's a fair criticism I'd say. I'm sure Ragnarok is gonna be an amazing game, almost assuredly, but with it being cross-gen it's gonna leave a lot of people wondering "what if?" Which I'll bet dominates the discussion for a long time.

Like I stated previously, I still think Ragnarok will set a new benchmark in terms of graphics and gameplay despite being cross gen. Santa Monica are that good. I'm sure there will be set pieces and sequences that will make us say this looks like a PS5 exclusive game. That makes it even more disappointing because the benchmark would have been a lot higher.

I think people are forgetting a lot has changed in the past year especially in work and office culture hence a lot of games got delayed (or suffered setbacks).

Hint:

It's COVID-19

I enjoyed original God of War (2018) but one of my big problem with that game was really lack of enemy/boss verity and really was severely lacking in department but that had nothing to do PS4's limitation since Bloodborne had crazy amount different enemy types and boss fights even tho nowhere near as high tech as God of War (2018).

I also I'm excited for God Of War Ragnarok but it was never going be as "ambitious" as you would think regardless of it was cross gen or PS5 exclusive. They type of games I regard as ambitious is something like God Hand with its unique combat system or even Demon's Souls unique online system when it first came out on PS3.

I literally stated an entire idea being removed due to the PS4's limitations :pie_roffles:
It would have certainly been as ambitious as Santa Monica would have liked not worrying about the weak ass PS4

To me its seems you think game development is magic and as long as they have strong system everything is possible, that not how reality works.

You don't understand how the PS5 differs from the very very slow PS4 and consoles before it. The PS5 and the XSX aren't just strong consoles that come with prettier graphics. Speed along with other factors were a major problem/bottleneck in game development and the PS5 and the XSX were specifically designed to address them, especially the speed part which plays a huge role in game development. Massive jumps in speed and other specs devs have been complaining about for a while. This has large implications for game design in terms of entire ideas that can be implemented that are possible now that weren't possible before, mechanics, set pieces, sequences, etc.

Ticker skin… ok. Thanks for opinion and here's mine, next time make better "jokes"

Pretty sure I typed "thicker"... You good? If your definition of "better jokes" are ones that might not hurt your little feelings, nah. I'll stick to the bad ones. It's actually really good advice telling you to get thicker skin. Keep acting like people have to watch their tongue around you, and see how it goes for your well being. You're gonna be miserable af.

A 2021 release would be on par with the development time of their recent GoW games. And this time is a direct sequel, so they don't have to reboot everything and can reuse (improved and tweaked versions of) a lot of stuff from the previous game.

So the time required wouldn't be that big. But maybe when they annouced the date were too optimistic with Covid. A 2021 release made sense back then, but now with covid and after Cyberpunk they won't rush.

I'm not in the least surprised that the game's been delayed. I don't believe Horizon will arrived before 2022, either.

COVID is still a thing, and will be for the rest of 2021 (maybe longer if some fuckwits continue to refuse being vaccinated).

2022 is when we really get to return to a normal life.
