I was thinking about this the other day, and wondering if there was a consensus. What are your thoughts?

If you saw this thread before, I make a mistake with the poll choices, and a mod was kind enough to delete the thread at my request. Here we go again with the correct poll options.

At first I preferred the feel of the DS4, the DS felt too big compared, but over a period of an hour or so I switched fully to preferring the DS and then I took all my DS4s out back and blew them up with explosives to celebrate the transition.

DS4, its just feels more versatile and less chunky to hold. Way prefer it for fighting games and TP action games. Where the DS excells for FPS where the controller is more loosely gripped and helped by the much improved triggers.

I also find the elongated shape and the face buttons too spaced out on the DualSense.

I never realized how true this is until I played Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 with the PS5 controller. Just a millimeters difference, and decades of muscle memory is screaming out "something is different here! This isn't right!"

I like the size of the DualShock, fit into my hands perfectly. The Dualsense is just slightly too big but I much prefer the heft of it. I wish the back of it was more textured like the Series X controllers though

They feel incredibly similar to me until like several hours in. Then I feel like maybe the PS4 one is a little more comfortable? I can't really be sure because my hands are falling apart.

It fucks me off that "DS" is the accepted acronym. Just call it the DS5, that's what it is really.

That aside, from the small amount of experience I've had with it I find the DS5 to be more comfortable than the DS4. As much as it's my favourite of what I own, I would like the 4 to be a little bigger. I have bigger than average hands and I find myself hooking my fingers more than is ideal.

The PlayStation 4 controller feels like cheap plastic to me, and prior controllers feel even worse. I love the heft of the PlayStation 5 controller. It's the first PlayStation controller that rivals the feel of the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series controllers. Someone at PlayStation is learning.

PS5"s controller was a surprise, I was expecting it to use the same controller as PS4. And yes, it's way better. Unfortunately baterry life hasn't improved too much.

Ergonomics on the ds4 were a huge step up from the original dual shock shape.

That said the dual sense is the best controller in the hands outside of game cubes controller

Battery life is absolute dog water. I have 3 dual senses and am constantly rotating them as they seek to only last a day each

PS5 Dualsense. First time the Dualshock feels really good. Proper weight and size. Triggers are vastly improved. Decent battery life. I've always disliked Sonys controllers. Dualshock 4 is the worst offender, hated that controller. DS3 is good but too small. DS2 and 1 are okay but I remember them being quite small and uncomfortable too. Dualsense is perfection.

Ps4 because the d pad was perfect for fighting games. The dual sense socks comparatively because they made the dead buttons feel dead comparatively. Ps4 was more lively and superior and I'm not sure why Sony changed it for the worse like that. Every other aspect of the dual sense is better but this was a bummer for fighting games.

I have absolutely no idea why, but for some reason my pinky finger hurts on my right hand when using the dualsense, even after a short time. I guess it gives me cramps or something? I don't know, it's strange. My hands overall feel quite tired when using the dualsense, like if it requires more effort, and I also think the triggers are too hard to reach, too far.

Can't really talk about the DS4 though because I haven't tried it in years, but I don't remember having such issues with it.

I can only really compare DS and Xbox Series controller right now, and my thoughts are:

- Dualsense feels more quality-ish? More solid, less fragile.
- It's really great how quiet the dualsense is in comparison to the Xbox controller, especially the sticks. On Xbox it feels like a hard plastic hitting hard plastic, it's really loud and annoying. On the dualsense it feels softer and quieter.
- Same for the noise of the d-pad and the buttons, although the d-pad itself is much better and precise on the Xbox controller, it just sucks that it's so loud and clicky.
- The buttons are too hard to press in my opinion on the dualsense, it requires less effort on the xbox, the buttons are softer.
- HOWEVER, the buttons on Xbox suck because if you don't press them hard, they sometimes do not register properly, especially when holding them.
- It sucks that the dualsense rumbles don't work properly when a game is using standard vibrations instead of haptics, and will only rumble on the left side of the controller.

I overall really prefer the shape, ergonomics, of the Xbox Series controller, it feels more relaxing, more comfortable, while the dualsense requires more effort, but the dualsense makes much less noise and feels like it's more reliable with its properly working face buttons, shame about the issue with standard rumbles.

Sorry for the off-topic comparison though :messenger_beaming:

Yeah, played some GoW 1-3 and I was changing in between the DS and DS4 and way prefered the latter.

For DS.. they made the buttons smaller as well. Meaning more travel for your thumb to move between each button, which is probably why it feels a little off. That and the xbox candy like buttons which I'm not a fan of..

PS5 easily, tried the DS4 afterwards & couldn't even last a minute with it.

There are pills for that.

I voted for the Dual Shock 4. Only because the D-Pad is atrocious on the Dual Sense for fighters. I play claw style on Tekken since 5 and its the first time I've ever had cramps. Had to go back to DS4 for this one. But then I realized I'm also getting older. Mid 30s now... aaaaaaaaaa.

PS4 for the ergonomics, PS5 for the build quality.

overall I prefer playing long sessions with the DS4 as the Dualsense gives me cramps if I play intense stuff for more than an hour with it

DualSense is better in every way that isn't the dpad. The dpad problem is somewhat due to the overall shape of the controller on that side. It's the main reason why im skipping the DualSense Edge in favor of Victrix Pro BFG even though the Victrix is less premium built.

Finally managed this November to get a PS5 at retail without any bundles and have found the DualSense to be much more comfortable than expected. While I'm happy with the new controller and recognize the nice upgrades, I still prefer the overall feel and form factor of the DualShock4.

DS is the best controller I've ever used. I just wish it was a little bigger to better fit my hands (large), but they have the design them for the average player, of course.
