Alone in my office today, gonna give this a second listen through. :D

Not sure why I can't really get into White Flag. The orchestra is obviously extremely talented and I don't hate the verses, but it's just not really working for me.
White Flag as a song just feels really disjointed. Yet, it sounds better with the rest of the album as a whole. Not single material tho

Listening now. Only song I don't think is up to standard so far is Sweepstakes. It's got a really fantastic tune if you focus on that, but the vocals don't do it any justice. It's not a bad, but it is disappointing.

EDIT: Due to people saying how awesome "Empire Ants" was, and the fact that I'm slightly impatient, I did the math and checked where each song starts on that NPR player. The slider kind of sucks, and it's hard to get an exact time, so just get as close as you can.

Thank you for this public service. All glory to the Hypno-Toad.

Not really getting the hate for Sweepstakes. It honestly reminds me a bit of a lot of the stuff Mos has been doing lately in his own realm (The Ecstatic). It works too when you figure in the whole concept of the album and Mos' role as carnie/game vendor.

Fuck Superfast Jellyfish, sorry.

What I really love:
- Some Kind of Nature
- Empire Ants
- Rhinestone Eyes
- Stylo, obviously

Others are nice too, but I like the classic Gorillaz feeling the best, with the traditional singing, and prefer that over rapping -.-

I like a lot of Mos Def's stuff, but Sweepstakes just has a beat I have trouble following. I don't HATE it, it's just probably my least favorite.

I definitely prefer Superfast Jellyfish to Stylo. *shruggle*

same... it realy could be a track from the ecstatic

Plastic Beach got a 3.5/5 from Rob "I think that Toxic (Yes, that Britney Spears song) was the best song of the last decade" Sheffield.

Some of the songs seem pretty good. Love the latter half of Rhinestone Eyes, not so keen on the first half.

Looking forward to hearing this properly, loved all their release singles in the past.

My favorite tracks, in order -

Empire Ants
On Melancholy Hill
Some Kind of Nature
Broken
To Binge
Superfast Jellyfish
Stylo
Cloud of Unknowing
Pirate Jet

Superfast jellyfish is real catchy shit. I can't put my finger on it, but it feels like a song that would be at home on Parklife or most any other concept album.

For you Clash fans, Mick Jones and Paul Simonon will actually be touring members of the band. Apparently they'll play the whole set, at least at Coachella and SNL.

Too bad about the cartoon shit, else I'd have gotten a Coachella ticket. I love the music but I don't like the virtual band aspect of the performances.

Expected. A decent album with a few great singles. Toxic is one of the best singles of the decade BTW.

I don't care what anybody says this is definitely Gorillaz best album yet and one of Albarn's best albums.

It's like he took all his past projects to heart such as the world music influences of Mali Music, working with Rachid Taha, The Good the Bad and the Queen, the Chinese Opera, Blur etc. and decided to throw it all into a Gorillaz album.

Brilliant. Oh man and the synth work on here too, wow I love it. And Plastic Beach is brilliant, as a Clash fan it makes me smile.

What did Albarn do with Rachid Taha ?

Don't know what to think. So far,

Gorillaz >>> Demon Days >>>>>>>> Plastic Beach

The first album was the best. Demon Days was good, but just not the same. This album is really different. Hmmmmm

A lot more consistent than Self-titled and probably better. Not as good as Demon Days, tho.

I'd have to agree with you so far. This album is certainly great, so I'll reserve judgement until I've let it grow on me.

GORILLAZ IS DOING SNL?!?!?!?

Holy shit amazing.

And yeah, this is my favorite Gorillaz album by far. There are better songs on other albums, but as a whole entity, nothing touches it in their catalogue, and very few albums touch it outside of it either.

One disappointing thing about the track 'Plastic Beach' is that the intro doesn't get enough time.

It sounds like some badass Morricone track. I'd love to hear more of the bassline and riff.

Stylo, oh man, goosebumps. Loving the vibe so much.

I'm highly into the whole 80's synth sound and this retro style is relevant to my interests.

Yeah, I wish it was longer.

Looks like "Sweepstakes" is the third single.

:D

Wuuuut? Hell naww. The only thing I like about that is that we'll get to see animated Mos Def. What's the second single BTW? Oh, Superfast jellyfish.

Superfast JellyFish, if I had to guess. Those were the two songs visible in the video.
