I've shown her the one where they split test the professionally done Need for Speed banner, and the one that looks like a kid drew it up, I forgot what blog that was on...kind of blew her mind, but she still insists on making her banners at least a little pretty...she actually made a pretty good one on POF that is still profitable, so I jacked it and started trying to scale it on my own through another network that had the offer...she wasn't happy about that lol

Not interested in your money.

LeBron > Jordan.
The 2013-2014 Miami Heat will go 72-10.
LVP = Attention whore.

Did I miss anything here, NBA-GAF?

Nothing better than life than getting laid off and doing better as a result of it.

Yep that's you Kim B. Fuck you loser, your loss.

Do you think your method of marketing is sustainable? If something happens and you're no longer making 3x what your boss does, will your comeback be a picture of your parent's will?

Pretty good, except for the part about Google/Yahoo/Bing competing for the revenue. Not sure what he means by that, as far as I know, all the banners you see through Google Adwords, on Yahoo, Bing, etc. are from advertisers/affiliates, not from the search engines themselves.

I actually meant Google/Yahoo and Bing's adwords programs themselves. I was just thinking about how this might work long term. A product based website/store can only spend a certain fixed amount of money on marketing. They can either

1) Spend money running an ad campaign through Google Adwords/Bing Adcenter.

2) Spend money through the affiliate program who then drive sales doing the leg work (but a part of that is also again through Google Adwords/Bing adcenter).

Google et al would of course prefer to capture all the marketing budget of the small and medium businesses instead of giving a cut to any other middlemen. That's why they keep sending free adwords credits directly to the businesses.

Either way, it looks like the money a product based store would have spent pre-internet on a Marketing Person/Copy Writer is now being distributed across a lot of individual marketers via the affiliate program. Pretty interesting.

Okay I think I got it. So you photoshop banner/pictures ads representing certain brands or products and those brands will in turn pay you per click or per sub they get. Then you place those banners ads on your own websites/blogs or pay money to lease space from other websites. That means you're probably investing into renting banner ad space somewhere, or you have a popular website already? Interesting job.

Damn, backstory?

Ah nothing special, just worked for a bitch that made our lives hell, she ran me out of a job for this incompetent lazy girl who slept on the job, really because that girl was not a threat. She wanted me out of there because I do damn good work and made that team look silly.

Then she tried to make me this stupid offer that she knew I'd refuse, it was some shit like... oh take a small salary loss, which we will give to (this fa....-overweight lazy bitch), you train her, we will downsize you but you keep your job.

I friggin doubled the salary they were giving me, and I don't have to stay late every night trying to make up for team incompetence anymore.

Got some other problems here (all job s have something) but nothing like that cesspool.

MVP, have you checked out empireavenue.com? I've been thinking for awhile there's an angle for affiliate marketers there ... They have set up their mission structures as well in a way that passes some of the profit to the end user (person who clicks).

Congrats on the turnaround. Working hard's not for everybody, it's why so few people end up excelling in life, but if you're able to give up your weekends, etc., and it pays off, you can't ask for more.

Congrats OP!
I didn't know people could get fired over such a thing. Then again, some people get fired over silly things. At one job, I was almost fired over having left the storage door opened. My boss came by, drunk as hell, and began yelling at me over said door being open. How did I know she was drunk? Well, one, she reeked, and two, she didn't noticed the 10 or so big ass boxes piled outside the storage room she requested to be stored away the previous day to be done that day (the day she came drunk)

I never did learn why she was drunk. I had asked my coworkers and they didn't know either. Whatever, I don't miss that job at all. Before anyone asks, I worked as a storage boy for this pretty well known design shop. Well, it's well known around where I live. Spent a year working there before having to quit due to being accepted to an out-of-state college. Last I heard, the place was under new management.

Why does the OP give out so many pyramid scheme vibes? Anyone in this thread been converted yet? :(

Wow, this is interesting.

My stepdad runs a web art gallery that's gone on since '99 or so. He uses freakin' Office Photo Editor for his images, and the resizing is done w/o filters and look like ass. The site still looks like it's made in the 90's, when I helped him design it in my spare time. It never dawned on me that part of the reason it does well (aside from being among the top google searches for the niche he's selling in) is that the site looks like some kid made it using Web Pages for Dummies and notepad. Pretty sure he uses marquee and flashing text somewhere in there too.

Also makes sense why they keep sites like MSNBC and Comcast's front page looking like absolute garbage. If it looked neat folks would go to shittier sites with shittier content.

I fucking love ballin' stories. Good shit OP.

Thanks man, I love 'em too. Some people apparently get all salty, but I could read these all day. That's why I love shows like Shark Tank, or talent shows...just people silently putting in work unnoticed until their day comes. It's inspiring, but haters gonna hate always.
