Got rid of my Series X

I may be being ignorant here, but the only misstep I recall regarding PS3 was the price of the console, due to its design. There were some amazing games released on it, so not sure where the arrogance remark comes from, especially considering that MS were competitive with Sony at that time.

Expensive, hard to develop for (Xbox 360 got most of the better versions of the multiplat games in that gen). But yes, it did pretty well in the end but it also ended up costing Sony billions. PS2 made Sony very arrogant, go back and check the press conferences and what Kutaragi said about the price of the PS3 etc. On a good note, PS3 led to PS4, a console which did basically everything right.

If arrogant Sony gives me a new Motorstorm and Uncharted game, then I’m all for it tbh. I have more of a soft spot for the PS3 than the PS4 tbh. But yeah, I can see where you’re coming from, as in the success of the PS2 clouded their judgement going into PS3. Still, some of my favourite games were released on PS3, hence the soft spot.

Xbox: Starfield, Forza, Hi-Fi Rush

Sony: Spider-Man 2

I mean, i'm not math genius, but i think 3 is more than 1
You for
Yeah, Hellblade II was just amazing, wasn't it... Joke aside, we don't know how good they'll actually be. We see obvious signs of mismanagement, they own so many studios now I don't know how they'll manage all of ABK... Owning studios is fine but getting them to produce is another thing. Compulsion was acquired in 2018 and we still don't know when their first game since We Happy Few that year will launch. Or if it'll be any good (from what I've seen, I doubt it'd be worth the wait).

Thing is, their multiplatform strategy will make owning an Xbox more and more useless.
Looks like Sony is going the Multi platform route also.

Xbox series x to me was like a PC without any of the flexibility and options. It’s like paying a premium to put yourself in a prison. Fuck that noise.

I understand that, and it was the Uncharted games and The Last of Us that made me finally buy a PS3. But compared to the PS4 I'll chose the latter any day.

I would be really sad when I had to use a pc for gaming. It already bad enough that I have to use a pc for my work

You can plug a PC into a TV HDMI port, boot directly into steam big screen after being set it as highest priority, go mini-itx route for small form factor for your entertainment room or if you have room for it, do it like big bois and having the PC in a rack and cable it to your TV, use a remote power switch to start it. Voilà, a "console", you won't touch a keyboard and mouse for probably a year if not more.
I know, witchcraft. 🤯

Not sure what you do but all this text doesn’t convince me at all.

I have no PC in my household and I like to keep it that way.

20 year XBL tenure player here, I just did the same. I've basically moved on to PC. The only exclusive I need is Forza Horizon since they completely shit the bed with the Motorsport franchise and I couldn't care less about their other exclusive titles.. So PC is perfectly fine. All of my XBL friends have moved on to PS5, PC, or stopped playing. I have a PS5 too so that's no problem. I didn't even use the Series X for Netflix or anything as it would glitch out from time to time. It became clear it was actually useless to me. What I ended up doing was selling the XSX to a friend of mine along with all my games, and put my 360 back in the cabinet in it's place. I've been playing more Xbox than I have in years.

Slow storage, weak CPU, no backwards compatibility, controller with minimal durability, and paid online. Sony peaked in their software output at the tail end of PS3 lifecycle as well. Not saying Xbox One is better, but the only reason to plug PS4 in is FromSoftware's Bloodborne (with subpar image quality) being stuck on that brick.

I have my laptop hooked up to my 65 inch TV via a long HDMI cable that's chased from one room to the other. The process of firing up a game on it is no longer than on console. The excuse that PC gaming can't be done on the couch is no longer valid - and I was one of the people claiming it was an issue up until recently.

Once I had it all worked out, continuing to own consoles became absolutely pointless, given the lack of exclusive games.

I'm in the same boat. Selling my series x. End goal is build a sff PC for home theater. I just don't see the point , for myself, already owning a legion go and large steam library to keep the series x. I mainly stick to sp ps5 games anyways. The rest can be on PC.

There is no way I will get rid of mine anytime time soon. Been going always with Microsoft Sony and Nintendo consoles....series x for multi and exclusives and PS5 for exclusive .

In terms of console I really like it, with the huge amount of games I have series x is pretty amazing with the backwards compatibility.... Switch is by far the console I play the most due to fact I take the train to go to work.... But I play way more on series x.

Too bad Ms keeps digging their own grave....is their own fault.....

No backward compatibility is something you can blame PS3 for. Paid online is not an issue for me, it's a service so why not. I don't think I have to name all the great games for the system. If you don't find any other gem than Bloodborne that's your opinion, but I had many great experiences during last gen, from Detroit: Become Human to Uncharted 4 and Tearaway Unfolded. It even had Shenmue III.

The fact that you brought up Shenmue III as a reason to own any piece of hardware says it all.

Wow I have to switch manually the input source with a pc? My console does that on their own
Actually on Sony TV's, it will auto detect a PC switching on too and swap input automatically. You just have to name the input PC.

But I still get where you are coming from. I gamed on lounge/living room PC's for a couple of decades and still have a media PC hooked up too. And its great. But I still prefer to do my gaming on a console these days. Steam Big Picture is not the same. So I'm with you on all of that. 👍

Of course it's not the reason I bought PS4. It wasn't even announced until 2015. But as an old Sega and Shenmue fan it certainly was the icing on the cake for me personally to finally play another Shenmue, although it ended up being somewhat of a disappointment.

Sold mine June 2023. The hardware itself was fine and i appreciated the idea of backwards compatibility plus fps boost in some cases but 2022 was an awful year, then in May 2023 Redfall was pushed out and a disaster, all told they failured to deliver on the promises of June 2022’s showcase by the time June 2023’s came around. So I was done and wanted to capitalize on any Starfield hype to get some cash back.

Yeah, that’s not an elegant solution for PC gaming in your living room. Cables all over the shop, having to move to another room to switch games etc.

Some folk don’t want PCs. It’s allowed. And that is why the Xbox is still a viable machine to own.

I see PC gamers are continuing to get incredibly upset over people not being into it. Reams of text about cabling is not the own you think it is.

Er, you can't see the single cable anywhere, other than coming up to the laptop. Move to another room to switch games? Steam Big Picture, my friend.

No, not everyone needs to be on PC, but it's a fallacy to suggest that you can't PC game on a couch pretty much as easily these days as you can on a console.

Got rid of my series x (spent $800 fb marketplace on it during the pandemic, sold for $500 fb marketplace) I was okay with selling it, played halo infinite, a new gears wasn’t there, Forza was never my thing (love Gran turismo) eventually got a series s and it works kinda an overachieving console.

Didn’t love the design, the AA batteries doesn’t sit well with me, and the dashboard has never been anything to celebrate since the 2010 update

Sony is going to have an uphill battle next gen. The PS5 sold incredibly well, but they've lost a lot of good momentum already from the PS4 by lack of games and communication with their fans (both which they excelled at during PS3 and PS4 era). They prioritized GaaS model and it's going to bite them in the ass.

Next gen is going to be boring too. If Xbox drops out, Nintendo will win by default. Neither Sony or Microsoft will have great games next gen in time to make up for the boring, dull, slow gen this has been.
Yep, GAAS games are just so generic and boring.

They're not in a good place right now, they release everything on PC (they're going to port some to PS5), and the PC version of game pass is now cheaper if you want the full roster of games than Xbox.

I've been leaning towards selling my PS5 this year, since PC + Switch will pretty much play everything.
