Gran Turismo 5 |OT2| We Love Cars

I think it just proves that they really didn't need to put the standard cars in the game. Once you start buying the premium cars in earnest, it becomes more than obvious that 220 premiums is absolutely fine, and there was no need for the standards.

Too bad Yamauchi didn't feel the same.

So we would have a 12 car grid in 24hrs of Le Mans consisting only of x4 R10 TDIs, 908 HDis and 787Bs? :lol

Though I do see where youre coming from. My somewhat limited Premium Garage can be overwhelming at times. Theres only like 2-3 cars that I use, aside the seasonal events one-offs.

It's not about driving them all, it's about having favorites among the standards, in which case PD cannot arbitrary remove standards, and Kaz knows it.

If there was no 69 GT40, no M3 CSL, no Furai, etc etc I would have been much less likely to buy the game. The standards may not be as good as the premiums, but GT has always been about breadth of choice, not a few cars from each category.

Well speaking of ownership you could be not so wrong, but you have to consider that standards are a necessity as adversaries in offline play, expecially in certain kind of events ( rally, endurance etc )

Looks like PD decided to reset GT Academy round 2 because of the corner cutting at the Indy Road Course. News update in the game -- changed the course and reset all times. Right thing to do though.

Amen to this.

So many of my favorite cars are standards:

-Any of the Mercedes, BMW, Opel, Audi DTM cars
-2003 Super GT cars like the WoodOne Supra, Denso Sard Supra, or various Skyline GT-R's
-RUF RGT, RUF Yellowbird
-Viper GT-S Team Oreca race car
-Any of the Pescarolo LMP cars
-Sauber C9 Mercedes
-Minolta Toyota

I could go on forever...I'd be crushed to not be able to drive those.

Finished buying the last of the premium cars. Only missing the gold rank X2010 (hah, never getting that one!) and the stealth cars, which I assume I can never get.

Will take an eternity to do the same for the standard cars.

I started with the standards, currently at 779 cars total.

It´s a major grind to get them all.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm glad that the standards are in the game - I would absolutely rather have them in the game than not.

But really, all they have served to do is undermine PD, destabilise the consistency of the game, as well as confuse and potentially annoy purchasers who were not aware of the segregation beforehand, who are probably wondering why eight hundred cars are crippled compared to their premium counterparts. GT3 never had a problem with a hundred and fifty cars, so there's no reason why it should have been any different with GT5.

Not actually that important
220 cars would have been ok if they'd been better disrributed between makers.
The numbers of cars for HUGE brands like Mercedes, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Audi, Opel, Aston Martin and Wolkswagen is absolutely fucking ridiculous. 220 premiums are even more disappointing when you have 1/6 of those which are basically just a different skin (some of Super GT, Nascars, Endurance and so on) and when you have idiotic shitty cars as Premiums and staples of car-porn lovers with awful PSP-like renditions.
This also means that you're FORCED to play more than half of the game with standard cars, with no cockpit view in top of that.
220 is even harder to excuse now that we've seen the joke that is the visual damage implementation.
The lowest bar for the game should've been 300 Premiums, no less than that.

But then we'd still be waiting for the game ^_^

I can't disagree that some marques have been poorly represented, but I'd expect that to change as PD build more premiums. The VW offering is puzzling though. I wonder whose idea it was to include the Kubelwagen and the Schwimmwagen.

Huh. Can't do Round 2s since I didn't pass Round 1. So much for "free items for participating even if you don't make it." :|

So I went to do that Mercedes David Schwimmer event and it said 1 mil grand prize, I bought the car for 600k and failed. So I upgraded the car (100k) and when I went to enter again, the prize was only 800k. Did I just read it wrong the first time or does the prize change when you exit/enter multiple times?

Just part of the reason why Forza 3 is a better game. I don't think I've been this disappointed by a 1st party Sony release this gen.

Does anybody else not play GT5 until new Seasonals come out?

I beat A-Spec, did B-Spec only to win the Zonda and I'm done, and I have no interest in the endurance races.

The Seasonals are all that I live for now, hoping that each of my favorite cars get the spotlight at least once.

This isn't the thread for that discussion.

I'm hoping for more RM'd madness in Seasonal #7. Come on PD, give me a reason to buy that Silvia RM!

I do the same. No interest in the prizes/exp from the Endurance Races. Did my GTLife races in the Extreme series sans the FGT series and I'll stick with the Seasonals. They give me an excuse to buy cars I ususally wouldn't think of picking up.

I do nothing but play GT5. The disc hasn't left my console a single time since the first time it got there. GT5 made me loose interest in every other game for the time being. Apart from the occasional Bad Company 2 on the PC I have little motivation to play anything else.

I too only play GT5 for the seasonals. Everything else is a grindfest.
Stop playing it for the grind then. Play it for the driving/racing.

If you guys play "just to get to 40" then no wonder you get bored.

race 4 : f2007, 15 mil reward

Ya no kidding. I played all of 7 events from GT4 but put like 100 hours into Timetrials with a friend. Thats part of the beauty of GT, and no console racing game imo touches it.

Anyway, for seasonal events, do the prizes change at all under any circumstances? I could have sworn one of them dropped by 200k on a replay.

Rotfl fuck off Murphy :p

Anyway, just bought the OPTION Stream Z '04 from the UCD and holy fuck what a beast, I love it and it is a joy to drive since it's not that hard to tame, especially with Sports soft tires.
You could probably pump it to 400Kmh and still have it "driveable" with sports tires or just make it a fucking monster of the road with racing slicks.

They updated the online dealership, the seasonal events 5 are gone and still no seasonal 7 up. :-(

Btw, does anyone want to trade anything for a Jay Leno Tank Car '03? I have two of those in my garage for some reason.

You know, it's hard to truly understand how ridiculous the Gran Turismo Skyline situation is until you've attempted to buy them all.

Or even looked in the premium dealership. Absolutely shocking. What was the final count on the Skyline situation, both premium and standard? (am at work, can't research that stuff :/ )

Wow, every one of those rally car models look woeful. The Delta barely looks better than the model from Sega Rally* :/

*Hyperbole, but it's still pretty shit looking.

I'm surprised you guys are still expecting seasonals. I think the events were made to boost your CR and XP for the holiday season, it's just that it extended through January. Didn't PD also say that the credit and xp boost in A and B spec would only last till the end of January too?

They not long put up a news item saying to expect seasonals every Thursday.

Fixed. Why do you guys always do that?...

And Seasonal Events are still coming don't worry. As well as the Driver's Club for US folks.

Also, to people wondering why you can't use the Ferraris F1s in A-spec/B-spec.

I did it because I remember him promising it.. but again I´m 35 years old, so it might be alzheimer light..

Hope you are right about the seasonals.. I am playing the original Dead Space right now (just found it between my games, and remembered I never tried it), so I need a good excuse to put in GT5 again.

I've completed almost everything in the game except the endurance and F1 events simply because they take too long and there is no save option in between races.

Don't know exactly, it's a hell of a lot though. The situation with the MX-5 / Roadster isn't a lot better (especially as there are three versions of the same car in some cases).

Bad, but not quite as bad are the S2000, Silvia, Lancer and Fairlady. I can't say I blame them though, it's an easy way of making the car list look HUGE.

43 Skylines, of which 5 are premiums. Of those 5, 3 exists as standards as well. So essentially 46 Skylines. So what?

5 premiums isn't exactly a big deal to me.

I for one is very glad they choose to include the standards. Some of my favourite cars are found in the UCD.

The way they chose the premium ones is the way they should choose all the cars.

They picked one R32, one R33, one R34 and two R35´s.

There´s really no need to make 45 versions out of those five cars, considering they pretty much picked the best from each era.

Duplicates/clones are toned down with the premiums and that´s a good thing.

Got to the grand finale video last night. I'm glad PD knows that 1979 is the best driving song also.

And about standards v premium. I'd rather have less cars overall and have PD up the premium number. Some Japanese cars must have like every model year available and it just isn't necessary. The killer is no cockpit on standards.

Oh, I'm not disagreeing with the standards (well, yeah, but anyway...) but the fact that there is a ludicrous amount of certain models while there's a pathetic selection of others. And (seemingly) artificially increasing the number of premiums by including PD-modified versions which are basically RM versions? :/

Gonna dedicate my entire weekend (well, apart from the footie) to the Endurance races in both B and A-spec.

They will probably make me hate gaming forever but whatever :p
