Seeing 30+ people on my friends list all playing GT6 was kinda funny as a few days ago it was a mix of COD:Ghosts, GTAV and GT5.

The menus are a lot more intuitive than GT5 and the need to contemplate suicide between buying a car and getting an oil change has been drastically reduced.

The new driving model is a huge improvement over GT5, although there are some handling characteristics that got carried over, but its a great start knowing that PD will continue to improve on it.

Career mode isnt that bad. The stars system is ok, and progress isnt that bad, but there's only so much make up you can put on a washed up porn star. It totally needs to be revamped.

Online is a kind of a let down at the moment. They over complicated the menus so setting up lobbies is not a simple as it was in GT5. They removed shuffle. Who's idea was it to not use psn names online? This needs to be fixed asap. They also removed in-race controls or at least there is no way to map them to the G25/27. Can someone with a DFGT confirm this? Kind of a bummer since there's no way to adjust your brake bias on the fly. They removed private lobbies/lounge, so the only option of racing with friends is to select the "friends only" option when browsing public lobbies. I mean I get that new features might not make it in for release, but don't take stuff away.

GT is in desperate need of new hardware though. The PS3 is definitely showing its age.

PD/Sony can suck my dick with those money pack prices though. It's disgusting.

Any time I want to complain about a graphical or performance blemish, I just look down at my controller, and I'm reminded this machine came out in 2006.

Played through the amateur races do far, fuuuuuuu- its amazing again!

Still same ol' GT, but the graphics do look crisper to me. (I play GT in bumper cam at 1080p at a desk/PC monitor for wheel setup purposes)

I like that they don't mess with the formula too much. More car sounds/no 'standard' cars would be ideal but this is a shit ton o' fun for $60.

For me it boils down to the same great racing from GT5 without the TERRIBLE clusterfuck that was everything outside of the races in 5. The menus are clear, well layed out and snappy.

Grabbed my copy today and I am definitely digging it more than GT5,but I still can't get over the car sounds.

I know, I know, I sound like a broken record. But it is just really hard to enjoy some of the cars when they sound like a cat being choked by a hair dryer. For how great the game looks, it is just majorly let down by how terrible the sound effects are.

Otherwise I am really digging the new UI and just the whole new style. I do miss winning cars more frequently though. Really seems sparse.

My biggest complaint / annoyance right now is the obligatory replay after the race. It should be optional.

And you cant even take photos in that forced replay.

I noticed that as well but GT games in the past have had that (obligatory replay). It's like someone proposed a return to it via email and no one replied so he implemented it.

The fireworks or confetti or whatever that pops out over the results when you win made me lol at first, it reminds me of Mario Kart.

I had to talk myself into buying this then instantly regretted it... Until I played it. The graphics we're we're not nearly as eye bleeding as I thought they were going to be. I thought I read people hating on the music, but I think it's actually quite quirky and fits well. I love the new menu system, it's s snappy as the PS4 UI. It makes me wish for a next-gen racer. Can't wait for Drive Club now.

Now the sound effects, they are bad bad bad. The tire squeal sounds like its at least a decade old.

Is anyone else using the Pulse Elites? What should I set for the sound? 7.1 or virtual surround?

I wish there was a way to turn off assists on a system wide level. With this many cars doing it over and over again can be annoying, especially when I forget.

Okay put about 3 hours into the game today.

Initial impressions.

Menus are snappy and quick. Some odd choices for how options are handled don't make any sense to me. For example the option of not being able to fully install the game to your HDD instead of this auto-install thing.

Another thing that bothers me is total lack of playlist editing for the in-game music. In GT5 if I wanted some tracks to never play at all, I had the option via a series of check boxes to enable tracks that played and disable tracks I did not. One way to get around this is just to compile a custom playlist of your own music via the XMB and have GT6 just play back stuff from it, but I feel I shouldn't need to do such a work around. I liked the option of being able mute and have only the songs I like to play of the in-game soundtrack. I don't think this is something they will fix in a patch either as it has nothing to do with the core driving mechanics of the game.

GT6 didn't auto-detect my wheel settings. I had to manually change the pedals to mimick L2 and R2 for Breaking and Throttle and my paddle shifters to L1 and R1. A minor issue that was quickly corrected.

The driving seems improved, the physics model or whatever changes they did to the suspension I noticed immediately. My car feels more connected with the road with some weight transfer compared to GT5 which most of the time I felt like I was floating or driving on a pocket of air.

I won't get into the graphical debate as I didn't find anything particularly out of place or glaring considering the PS3 is 7 year old hardware.

I think it's a improvement over GT5 in many ways, for one thing I spent more time on the track then navigating menus and waiting on loading screens, that is a huge positive overall.

Is the sound of rocks hitting into your wheel well new? I never remember hearing that sound effect in GT5. It surprised me when I overshot a corner on Willow Springs and heard that.

So is happening for anyone else using custom music? It seems the game will continue to use the same music track until it actually finishes, so if a song starts mid-race, it will restart it in the next. It wasn't like this before in GT5, so why the change?

Exact same thing happened to me at Willow Springs and I got a pleasant surprise, yep those sounds are new.

Okay, cosmetic damage is better. I get the sense of "racing is rubbing" when I look at my car at the end of the race. i had significant deformation when i was trying use a car as a cushion (and spun out lulz).

Still on the fence about picking this up.

Someone who played this game & played GT5 recently, can you please confirm:

1) GT6 is THAT much jaggier than GT5, or are there options to reduce the jagged lines (720p, flicker reduction?).
The comparisons between the two games I seen make GT6 look twice as worse in this regard.

2) Is the A-Spec career mode a cut & paste job of the previous GT games? Like Sunday Cup, followed by FF Challenge etc...
All races have 2-3 laps maximum at the start & the following series increase to having a 5 lap maximum.
Most being open series, where you can have a Ferrari against a grid of Mini Coppers with no penalty.
Is there NO races that have the day time cycle changes applied or any weather races in A-Spec career mode like in GT5.

3) Are Rally races the same crap as in GT5, where if you touch the railings or go off track, the game disqualifies your current lap. Or is it like in GT3, where it was fun actually to rally race.

4) Any F1 cars & F1 car challenges in the game?

I bought the digital version and have a SSD in my PS3. Loading is nearly instant for all events so far, but I have not been in any races with more than six cars yet. After spending dozens of hours watching loading screens in GT5 while trying to grind money and buy all the cars, the new faster interface is the single best improvement in GT6.

What is everyone's sort of anecdotal first take on the handling model/physics differences with GT6 versus GT5? I've done most of my racing with the same FWD Honda hatchback everyone else is using, but I did get some time in the Anniversary Edition of the Honda HSV and the AMG concept car. Most significant difference I noticed right off the bat is I have to be a lot more delicate when correcting oversteer. In GT5, using something normal(not a Le Mans prototype or a 1000hp street car) you could be very heavy with the throttle and correct until the ship was righted, the end. Now the cars seem a touch more sensitive to a huge yaw angle, but it may be just those 2. However, what seems really striking is how delicate you have to be with the throttle after that initial correction, I don't know if it's the tire temp. difference or what, but you do not have anywhere near the same type stability right after you fix the slip angle that we once did. I found myself in the grandfather clock swing rippling effect after the first correction either because I wasn't bang on with the amount of opposite lock or because I simply turned too hard or applied too much throttle right after the car was righted. Anyone else pick up on this?

I remember thinking how suspension loading and weight transfer were appreciably better in the demo, but it hasn't surfaced yet here. It's still very early though, I'm sure it's there.

Playing this with the Ridge Racer 4 sound track is so boss.

Also, is there any way to turn off ghosts completely? I only see an option to switch between half-transparent or ghost line.

Still digesting the physics changes, and I've been playing a lot of GT5 and PnG recently. The changes are profound, as others have described. The biggest takeaway for me would be the improved degrees of traction loss and corresponding ability to manage them, vs the comparably on/off traction feeling of GT5. Lots more feedback from varied tire squeal pitch and loudness. Much more FUN to drive, even the crappy cars. I had my Honda Fit sliding and snapping around which was pretty much impossible with low-end FF in GT5.

I will say this much about the new driving model: The Stratos and Europa which came with my free code are quite a handful to drive with DS3 and assists off! Holy crap!

This is happening to me. Quite frustrating, hopefully it'll be fixed...

Just did something really stupid. Spent most of last night downloading this then just as the 1.2gb patch was installing I was messing around with the power outlet whilst plugging in the steering wheel and accidentally unplugged the PS3 whilst installing.

I now have a 15gb corrupt file so I have to redownload everything again. Maybe I'll get to play this tomorrow.

So this is a UI question, but is there anyway to turn off the clock that is in the middle of the screen, but still leave the one in the corner?

I know this was in GT5 but its more distracting than I forgot :(

I just tried the Stratos, it's night and day! I'm still sideways half the lap, but it's a nice and friendly sideways. Used to be the abhorrent, "I'm about to step on the brake guys, wish me luck, wonder what body panel will be leading the way into the corner".

This is easily my favorite GT career mode in terms of sense of progression and variety. They brought back that classic "I gotta get the most out of my car before I buy a new one" feel.

What settings are people with Fanatec wheels using? For some reason, sometimes my acceleration will randomly begin to drop as if my foot isn't on the pedal.
