Grand Theft Auto V |OT| It's Time To Go Home

I'm most excited for the ambient stuff.

It was the best part of RDR.

Outside of Liar's Dice, that is.

Yup. I'm excited to see that contemporary ambient events R* has added to an urban environment. It really made RDR's world feel alive. So good. Also, Liars dice has become a permanent part of my buddies and I when we decide to play a drinking game. So good.

Edit: Gonna feel great seeing everything for the first time, managed not to look at any streams or gifs.

Can't believe it's almost here, feels like the night before Christmas.

I go away to university on the 20th, I'll be taking my PS3 with me but I'll be doing a lot in the first couple of weeks with freshers fortnight etc, and I'm going to want to socialise and meet people, so I won't get a lot of chance to play. So I'm going to cram in as much playtime with this as I can before I go. This may be my most anticipated game of all time, top three for sure.

For peeps getting this digitally for the PS3. I hope PSN's servers don't go all batshit crazy, like they did for The Last of Us demo release. The fact the usa won't get a pre load for GTAV, and the times is all jacked up, looks like a prefect storm of disaster. I hope I'm wrong

Speaking as a college graduate:

DUDE. Play it in your dorm full volume with the door open. New friends will come. Trust me.

At least, that's how it was where I went to school. The first week all people did was walk up and down the halls of the dorms introducing themselves to people in the rooms. Games were a huge unifier. I met and became friends with a couple guys I ended up rooming with the next year because they were playing Guitar Hero (this was 2007, haha) and I asked if I could join.

GTAV and socializing at college (or uni). The two will co-exist beautifully. Don't worry. ;)

This is all dependent on you living in a dorm, however. Hahaha.

Oooohh man work is fucking dragging!

After I get home and make the wife some dinner, we'll first watch the latest Breaking Bad ep. which I'm frothing at the mouth over to see. Then a couple of hours later it's on to the midnight launch!

And they say Mondays suck.

You won't be dissapointed! Midnight launch is going to be great. Haven't been to one in ages.

How did SCEA shit the bed on the digital pre-load so hard? So is it 3am eastern on tuesday now? I bought it under the notion that we would be able to pre-load, Thanks for nothing.

I managed to score my PS3 copy in Au earlier this morning...Mwuhah.

Quick positive impressions (no spoilers) from my first-gen/Phat PS3:

- The flight model is uber impressive for its scope. There's a mini flight sim in there. You could buy the game and get your money's worth just flying around.
- The tire wall texture looks so good. It looks like it's from a modern car sim not a GTA game.
- Every now and again, you'll walk into a situation on foot (specifically on missions) and the game will look close to some next-gen screenshots. It's clearly a current gen game but sometimes the scenery is just...wow.
- No screen tearing at all
- Frame rate looks to be a rock solid 25fps in the most hectic of chases/shootouts I've triggered. I've been specifically looking for frame rate drops and haven't noticed any.
- The textures are surprisingly great in most instances (as with most games it's easy to find a blurry rock or two). An amazing feat considering there's only 256mb of vram on the PS3. I'm primarily a PC gamer FYI, so console textures typically generate a vomit-in-mouth response. Not here.
- I doubt that the game is running natively at 720p but it is close. It's a far cry from the vaseline smear of GTA IV and the IQ much much nicer than the PS3 version of RDR
- The water shader is possibly the most impressive one I've seen on a console. It looks amazing.

It feels like GTA San Andreas 2 to me and gives me all the good vibes of Vice City.

I haven't seen this, but is there weapons and armor hidden around SA like the previous GTA's? I hope so, so I can continue my tradition of never buying weapons/armor (unless story mandatory).
Also, If you steal a vehicle and place it in a garage so its "yours". If you take it back out and get it destroyed is it gone for good?
Thanks!

What store does it rhyme with? In the interest of confidentiality?

How is ped count overall? It seemed sparse on some streams.

To be perfectly honest in parts like the beach and Vinewood area it's quite good, but yeah there isn't that much on foot traffic in most area.

It's fine considering living near the LA area I know people don't really walk that much in most parts of California.

In all seriousness, I didn't know they're were actual gamers in Chile. I thought gaming as a hobby in most South American countries was too expensive?? Maybe just more bullshit being fed to us here in US....

Oh hell. The servers all got whacked over a demo??

(yes, I know, it wasn't just any demo, but still...)

I really, really hope Sony took some notes from that. They need a freaking army of servers for the 17th, if they really are that crazy/dumb enough not to offer a preload.

Strange it's at Gamestop and not Best Buy given how huge the Best Buy in Union Square is compared to that Gamestop. I had a feeling they would be holding an NYC launch event. Too bad I pre-ordered it from Newegg so I'll be passing it up even though it sounds like fun. Plus I have class at 10AM the next day and have homework to do.

My Elite 360 has been having the unreadable disc problem and it's a pain in the ass. I don't want to money to send it back to Microsoft so I've been doing the old tapping the Xbox with a controller after inserting a disc. It's extremely annoying.

It is expensive (look at the PS4 price in Argentina...), but there are ways of getting around awful prices: Steam, Day-1 Digital, importing, etc (although in most cases people resort to piracy). Gaming is very popular over here despite the disadvantages.

Is anybody as hyped as I am for the scuba diving? It just seems really intriguing how much detail is being put into the underwater aspect of a gta.
