Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Horizon looks more detailed here. I think it looks good for a cross gen game from 2022:

This is PC version but it barely got any updates compared to PS5. Anyway, I will have Yotei tomorrow so I will finally see how it looks on OLED in person...

The lighting is subpar by current gen standards, regardless of what platform you're running it on. I WARNED GUERRILLA not to go this route with Burning Shores and they went ahead with it anyway. And what's the result of all of this? Legitimate debate over whether, and to what extent, a $60M game developed by artsy-fartsy baby brother studio Sucker Punch, looks better than $200M game developer by one of Sony's top 2 technical studios. Really amazing when you sit back and think about it.

This game is the perfect example of how you can have top class textures, geometry, facial animation, etc. But if your focus on lighting/shadows is nonexistent, particularly in the era of RT, your game will become outdated overnight.

It's true ...FW looks dated whenever I play it now. I also think the 60 fps mode we're all playing it on the Pro is a downgrade from the Quality mode which explains why its not looking as impressive

just started Silent Hill f. and the amount of UE5 games I played that are acceptable on a visual and technical level are still 0.

lumen boil, low image quality, ghosting galore, traversal stutters, animation hitches...

well... that's not surprising tbh. but sad to see each time.
UE5 is just cancer. the worst thing to happen to game graphics and performance.
it is legitimately a warning sign now.

Complaining about GOY while praising Horizon is odd to me. Horizon is one of the most visually inconsistent games I've ever played. Interiors had lighting that looked almost broken a lot of the time. GOY clearly has shortcomings, but using Horizon to argue against it doesn't really make sense to me.
The first horizon is more impressive to me than GoY. The npc rendering alone is mindblowing (especially in Horizon FW) whereas i have seen better npcs in ps3 games than whats in Yotei. Yotei caves are also very ugly and water is plain embarassing for a current gen title
