Grim Fandango Remastered |OT| The Excelsior Line Edition

Focus on the main floor. I think your next step is there.

Yeah it seems to be, the 2 doors there were locked before but this time I went down and found a purple guy and there was a cutscene/dialogue. He's gone now and one room has the machine with the valve and the other lets me create that foam stuff. I'm positive I need to do something here but I went through everything in my inventory and couldn't figure it out.

All good, I will put some more time into it this evening and try and make progress.

There were no Grim Fandango walkthroughs or hints online when I first played this game many years ago... Just had to stick it out and sometimes become stuck for days on certain puzzles until a literal "a-ha!" moment came about. The reward for completing the puzzle on my own was much more satisfactory than using a walkthrough would have been.

So, for those stuck just keep at it. It might take you a while to beat it in the end but surely you'll be happier for it,right? Right?

It all sounds very fun and reminds me of some older games i used to play on PC.

I love the idea of a puzzle/adventure game.

I do recall playing Ocarina of Time for the first time on 3DS and being really stumped with some sections, that I had to use a guide :p

I didn't consider, for example, using the empty bottle in the shallow lake to fill it with water. I just didn't think the game would be that "advanced", and I wonder if it's more of a perception thing or if I was just dumb :(

I'll be honest, I got the line (and therefore the trophy) "Run you pigeons, it's Robert Frost!" about twenty minutes ago and I'm still chuckling. Grim Fandango was worth the wait.

Not struggled so far, although I have missed a pair of trophies from I'm guessing before The Land of the Living so the trophy hunter in me will want to get them, Director's commentary will make it much more interesting.

Game glitched on me at the petrified forest. Manny continued his walking animation without getting into the hot rod, also couldn't press options to save. Lost 2 hours of gameplay but got it back in 15 minutes. That setback aside I adore the character interactions, dialogue and the story.

Manny got stuck in geometry at the end of the game for me yersterday, but when I minimized the game and opened it again he got out of it. So that may be something you could try if you are playing it on PC.

Picked this up today because it's something I've heard about for years but have never been able to access (as I'm sure is the case with many others in this thread). I've gotta say, this point and click adventure game has better voice acting and characterization than most games coming out today.

I've also been reminded how much I love old LucasArts adventure games until I'm stuck on a puzzle and spend an hour wandering around trying every item in my inventory on every interactive object.

Double Fine and Tim Schafer have replied to me on Twitter a couple times now today.

They have said they are working on getting the theme available for everyone in some way but have nothing to report now and are "unsure" if it is possible.

That's something at least. I think being @MannyCalavera12 on Twitter helps haha

Awesome. I want that theme so bad.

I've been reminded why I don't play point and click adventure games despite finding them to be incredibly enjoyable.

I suck at them. The temptation to find a walkthrough is a never ending battle.

Wish this game ran full screen.

I don't see why they couldn't fix that.

Could've just redone the backgrounds.

That's an incredibly hard and expensive thing to do. They'd need to do most/all from scratch, I think a lot of those assets are lost.

The game is static shots framed in 4:3. It's the best way to play it.

It's kind of upsetting that a remaster can have so many extra glitches. But on the other hand, this is Double Fine's stamp.

- Manny's cigarette sometimes staying on Manny after it's supposed to be removed after idle animation.
- Bread not rendering correctly after you use it and get a new one.
- Olivia not rendering correctly during a cutscene.
- Carla not rendering correctly during an animation.
- Game soft locking after trying to use can opener on cat food (not sure if that happens every time, only tried it once).
- Impossible to exit one camera angle when using mouse controls (the closeup of a window in Carla's security room).
- Certain puzzles are made a lot harder when using mouse controls
I was unable to do forklift puzzle with mouse controls. And the puzzle with the wine casket is a lot harder because the casket only becomes a clickable object if you climb the ladder.

Most of these are minor issues, but I miss the feeling of playing a polished bug-free game. It feels like most games released these days are riddled with bugs.

The remaster looks like shit compared to those images. ^ How the..

Certainly makes you feel like Doublefine are some lazy ass developers..

And posts like this certainly make you feel like some posters on here have zero clue about game development. You see some nice UE4 shots and automatically expect a whole 12+ hour game to be magically remade like that?

Talk about entitlement. We finally get a re-release of one of the greatest adventure games of all time and people throw stupid comments like this around. That guy's work is very impressive, no doubt, but there's no need to be so coarse about it.

The game was working fine for me on PS4 until I hit a specific point in year 3. Every time I enter an area the game crashes. I have no idea what to do.

When you give Meche the gun, she gets thrown into that odd holding cell. I get in, and close the door like I should. I then trip the switch with Manny's Scythe and Meche comes out and gets upset. No matter what if I then try to enter the next room where you're supposed to set off the sprinkler and drop the axe on the drain the game crashes. It's happened four times now.

Should I delete the game and download it again? Does the PS4 keep saves when you delete a game?

Edit: Huh. I restarted the PS4 and it let me in. That's weird, because it crashed in the exact same spot multiple times before that.

I stand by what I posted earlier in the thread though. This is a solid remaster, there just seem to be some bugs that need to be fixed. The models look a lot better than they did, the new controls are great, and the commentary is awesome.

This sounds like a buggy mess. That's pretty unfortunate. May even skip the game altogether unless they work out the bugs. :/

Yeah, don't bother. The theme sucks.

I'm stuck, and it looks like it is in the same place as everyone else. I'll continue playing it tomorrow and try to continue without help.

don't know if this one is already known as i haven't been following this thread or anything, but it seems like there might be an issue with dialogue options disappearing

i got to the first conversation in Manny's office after
meeting Meche
and paused for a minute right after the cutscene, and when I came back and unpaused, the very first dialogue option,
"the only implication here is that i'm fired
had disappeared. Reloaded and tried it again to make sure and the same thing happened.

Just trying to get everyone access to the theme by communicating with Double Fine and Tim Scafer now.

They are working on it, they replied earlier today.

Sorry.

The glitches are strong in this one.

I had a similar glitch except manny was facing the other way

I got a similar one, except Manny was inside the wheelbarrow.

Anyway, I did beat the game, and I did get the "The Right Way" achievement. However, there's 2 achievements I missed in Year 2, so I'm going back for them, this time using the point-and-click controls, which I like a lot more, mostly in terms in getting around. I wonder how the fire beavers are going to work. Also, I've skipped the dialogue and cutscenes, so I'm actually about at this point again. I'm kinda surprised how even though you skip the dialogue, the animations have to play out in complete silence.

Loving this. It's everything people said it was. Soooo good. But I have to say, the stuck camera is really hard to get into. Had no issue with the tank controls, because you can run. But it's the camera lol

But I'm loving the story so much.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

My glitch is that I cannot play the Vita version anymore after cross-saving from the PS4. :/
