Grim Fandango Remastered |OT| The Excelsior Line Edition

As much as Byron shit up the thread. Sony shit it up just as much with just license issues. Absolutely ridiculous.
Should I buy this? I like Machinarium.
I think the puzzles have a similar level of physicality to them (in the first year at least) but the writing is very different. The characters have deep relationships when you start the game. Machinarium has a very different feel to it.

Also related to Manny's first trip to the land of living
the change in art direction was such a shock to me, really admire them for making such a bold choice after going to 3D, felt like old Sam and Max almost

Yeah the game does seem a bit buggy. I started playing last night, PC version from GOG (probably doesn't make much difference but yeah). I got into that communication tube room, I tried to use the wheel on the door, and when I pulled an item out afterwards it just froze all action in the game. The music kept playing, the room was still animated and I could move my mouse cursor but I couldn't click anything, the inventory wouldn't work, none of the keys or mouse worked, and I couldn't bring up the menu. I just had to close the game. Funnily enough I remember the same thing happening near the start of Broken Age when that came out.Save often folks, I usually don't save until I'm finished on a point and click (unless its sierra of course), hopefully it won't happen again.

Okay I have one trophy left until the plat and I'm not too certain how to unlock it. I believe it's in Year 4:
"THAT'S NOT FUNNY!" Crack a joke.

Any help as to when/how to unlock it is very appreciated.

EDIT: Nevermind I found a trophy guide! I knew it was at this spot!

Just a note that I fixed my issue from above (edited a note into it to say the below, just in case anyone else experiences a similar issue)

For some reason it was trying to use my integrated graphics as opposed to my dedicated graphics card. Forced it to use my dedicated graphics card and it's fine now.

This was certainly fun! As a first timer to this game, it didn't disappoint. There were a lot of times I was going "what the hell" and had no idea what to do, but I somehow made it through (
I'm looking at you, door with the tumblers
in Year 3)

I haven't looked it up but I think I know the exact spot that trophy comes from. :)

Hey guys! I'm gonna post this again since I had some troubles last night but had to go to bed before it was resolved. I'm trying to play the game on PC (Windows 7, Steam) and it won't work. I just redownloaded it and tried verifying the cache and everything's good. The game just says "Preparing to Launch Grim Fandango Remastered" and then nothing happens. Other Steam games work.

Any tips? Did anyone have a similar problem? I want to play this game haha.

EDIT: I'm assuming this has something to do with it?

Not entirely related to this topic, but a friend of mine worked in a fan demo in Unreal Engine 4, reimagining The Department of death of Grim Fandango.

Seeing this, we can wonder how marvelous and astonishing could be a proper remake of this masterpiece.

http://vimeo.com/116657854

Note: Excuse my poor english skills.

It's a great bit of work by your friend - but I don't think it would fit in a remake of this particular game. That kind of hyper-realism doesn't really fit the tone of the original. If they ended up doing something like that, I'd rather have it be a sequel/prequel/whatever than a remake of the original.

Still, not meant to disregard the hard work of your friend. Love seeing stuff like this, it's amazing what some people can do on their own nowadays.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
The game seems to be bugged in the Vita version. I cross saved and loaded from PS4 to Vita and it crashed after loading (and during walking around for a bit). Anyone experiencing the same problems? I'm in the second part of the game now.

This happened to me and I had no fix. I ended up playing through remote play instead.

Personally I think that looks awesome. Looks like film noir, but in color.

Reposting this froma thread I made.

So I bought Grim Fandango today and the licence would not Verify. No problem, I thought... I'll just restore the licences. So, I get to the end and of the licence restore procedure and I can't connect to the server. Okay, whatever. I'll try again. Again, nothing.

Finally I decide to try and deactivate and reactivate my ps4 as the primary console and as I try to deactivate it I get a "cannot connect to server" issue again. I went back into the main ps4 interface and now ALL my online PS4 games are deactivated with seemingly no way to recover them. Fuck.

I am trying to restore licences one last time, but I am not hopeful.

Worse still my ps4 seems to be freezing and stuff right about now, making it infuriatingly difficult to even navigate the menu.

Thanks, Sony.

Any solution are welcome since Sony UK aren't picking up.

Anyone else having issues trying to download it? I bought the PS4 version on the web store (which gives me the Vita version IIRC?) and it shows up in my library but it says it can't find it and directs me to the store page, which has the same error if I try clicking on the button.

Seems to show "Start" on both of them instead of download too.

Very common issue, log in to SEN website and go to your download list there

Bought this last night. Won't be able to play until the weekend, though. Want to experience the game together with the GF, comfy couch and all, see how a first timer reacts to it.

According to him, one month 12 days of his work alone, stopping for christmas. He expects Tequila (a videogames studio here in Madrid) recognize his work.

I'm adding images of his work, without strange vimeo video compression.

I encountered one game breaking bug so far. In the
high rollers lounge
I entered the elevator but turned around at the same time, so I was halfway in when the door closed. The level/place didn't change, but I couldn't exit the elevator. So I was stuck, had to load an old save file and lost about 1,5 hours.

I haven't encountered any crashes or needed to reset the game as of yet, but there are frequent visual bugs in the game.

Hopefully all these get cleaned up, but it seems like the game needed another month of development.

It it possible to change the language in the PSN version?

I'm playing the PC version, but there are multiple dubs available in the menu.

The new controls on PC are amazing. How did I ever play this game without P&C control.

I've played maybe twenty minutes so far, but yeah, the point and click controls are fantastic.

Year two had the most bugs.
My game froze when I tried putting the forklift in the door.

It also froze in Year 3 when
I got onto the crane for the third time.
.

It's not the most stable of games and with manual saves it can be a bit worrying.

Never played Full Throttle, but always wanted to.

Anyway, I did my part and bought Grim Fandango Remastered before it even came out. I hope many others have followed suit.

Full Throttle is pretty solid too. They were gonna make a sequel at some point and that got canceled. I remember reading Tim Schafer saying part of it was there was nowhere for the story to go since 1 ends pretty perfectly and I honestly have to agree

There were two different Full Throttle sequels in development at some point though, and one of them even got a trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjqAN72DoyU

There's a lot of concept art and information out there. They were going to be focused more on action than adventure gaming though, and Tim Schafer wasn't involved at all. He wasn't happy about those sequels being made, and I guess in the end it's better that they weren't finished.

I agree that a Grim Fandango sequel wouldn't work. I think a Full Throttle sequel could work, but Ben's voice actor sadly died a couple of years ago.

Anyone else got this issue? I purchase the PS4 version from the EU web store this morning and was charged:

But it shows up that I have to pay for it again, and even if I tried to do so I get an error:

And it's completely missing from my download list:

Sign out, and then sign in on the webstore. It should show up on your download list then. After that, you should be able to download it to your PS4 from the webstore.

Hey there, yep I had a similar issue earlier this morning.
All I did was sign out on the web store (where I bought Grim Fandango) and then signed back in. When I went to my download list then it was at the top and was able to download with no issues

I searched for a Let's Play of the PS4 version and it's got the same options. Cool.

I should really do more than one save file. Having seen dozens of visual glitches it doesn't surprise me there are numerous potential game breaking bugs in there. While it's still a great game, this really isn't a great remaster, sorry to say. A functional one is more apt in it's current state.

Speaking of saving. Does this game just have 4 save slots ?

Hey guys!

Can someone answer this, please.

I want to buy this from the NA PS store (I'm from Chile) but I need to know if it has the original spanish dub in it, does anyone know anything about it??

Thanks :D

This game is seriously amazing. The humor is just so spot on, with the character interactions matching the amazing designs. Seriously considering getting this on steam for the developer commentary and point and click controls.

Those UE4 screens look gorgeous! Although the chromatic aberration is a bit much.

I can see why Double Fine would want to stay closer to the original though. There was one of their behind the scene's videos where they talked about finding that fine balance where you don't disappoint too many people looking for big improvements, and you don't piss off too many purists who want the remaster to live up to their experience of the original. Also, it is nice being able to switch between Original and Remaster graphics.

Still, I personally wouldn't at all have minded having something more along the lines of that UE4 version.

Well, Double Fine wants to stay closer to the original as it would be infinitely cheaper solution.

Agreed, playing on PC and P&C feels like the way to go. Really enjoying revisiting this game, still one of my favorites. Commentary is great too, lots of folks involved.
