Are the bugs from the PC version?
Because I've just completed the first year in the game, PS4 version and I've encountered no bugs at all.

Btw the game is amazing, the new high res characters and lighting, the modern controls, non intrusive dev comments, orchestral soundtrack and trophies are all great additions, even the backgrounds while dated look much better than I expected considering they have not been re-rendered.
Game is amazing with great dialogues, actually I'm enjoying it much more now because being older I can notice things I simply didn't before.
My only complaint is the 16:9 stretched mode....they could have tried something better like a scrolling solution but I'm playing it in 4:3 right now.

I'm a big fan of Telltale's games, will this be just as enjoyable for me? I'm currently on the fence for buying it

Probably. It's very well written and the voice acting is great. It's definitely more puzzle heavy though, and the narrative isn't interactive. For instance, early in the game there's a dialogue option to tell someone you want to punch them in the face. I refrained from selecting it because I'm so used to things like that affecting character relationships. This is from before that time though, so you just get to hear a funny quip and keep playing the game.

Played for another 30 minutes and the game locked up on me again. Different area this time, I simply pulled an item out, et voila, lock up once again. Tried mashing the shit out of all my keys, tabbed out and back in, I get nothing. Hope a patch is released soon.

This is a classic adventure game though. The puzzles ARE the gameplay, and through examining every object you encounter and going through all the dialogue with everyone you meet, you should be able to get enough clues to piece things together. This game is all about patience and thinking things through.

Nothing in GF really came close to GK3 despite your reference.

Disagree with your last point, I stand by the server thing being pretty similar, but to be clear I am reading all of the dialogue and experimenting with using different items in different places.

Using literally every item on every single thing I can interact with isn't fun to me though.

I prefer the Vita version over the PS4 version. It just looks so much nicer on the OLED.

I also think the remastered visuals are disappointing, they just didn't get the lighting right. I much prefer the original graphics.

Game glitched on me at the petrified forest. Manny continued his walking animation without getting into the hot rod, also couldn't press options to save. Lost 2 hours of gameplay but got it back in 15 minutes. That setback aside I adore the character interactions, dialogue and the story.
I encountered the same bug. I have to start the game from the beginning again now, 2+ hours lost. More than annoying...

And posts like this certainly make you feel like some posters on here have zero clue about game development. You see some nice UE4 shots and automatically expect a whole 12+ hour game to be magically remade like that?

Talk about entitlement. We finally get a re-release of one of the greatest adventure games of all time and people throw stupid comments like this around. That guy's work is very impressive, no doubt, but there's no need to be so coarse about it.

Lol and certainly no need to be so sensitive about it, calm down mate.

To each his own...I didn't have an issue with that puzzle the first time I played it, but it took me a lot longer to do the disguise puzzle in GK3.

Because I've just completed the first year in the game, PS4 version and I've encountered no bugs at all.

PS4 version is really buggy. Multiple instances of controls becoming unresponsive in the inventory with the exception of the classic mode toggle on R3 which forces you to restart the game and lose progress. There also seems to be a lot of animation bugs (very noticeable when pushing the wheelbarrow in the Petrified Forest. Some NPCs don't animate during the scripted scenes which will also force you to restart. I've also had Manny get stuck a few times which again forces you to restart. I'm so spoiled by automatic save systems these days but this game is really making me unlearn that habit.

I've been reminded why I don't play point and click adventure games despite finding them to be incredibly enjoyable.

I suck at them. The temptation to find a walkthrough is a never ending battle.

I'd like an 'easy' option so I can play it more like a visual novel.

Is there a general view on preferred format? Is the PC version less buggy? thinking to get on PS4 as then I can play on TV or vita via remoteplay

Played for about an hour for the first time and wow, really loving it so far. New lighting looks great, music is awesome, dialogue is fantastic. I also particularly enjoyed
the depiction of the land of the living, was not prepared for that! So creepy.

Just came up to my first roadblock in terms of getting stumped. Taking that as my cue to stop for the night but really looking forward to getting back to it tomorrow.

EU Vita version just got patched to 1.01 hopefully that fixes some of the problems people have been having. So far I am really loving the new music the atmosphere in this game is just so good. I'm really enjoying the Vita version, I'll probably do one play through on Vita and then a second one on PS4 when I get the chance.

Man, I'm so bad at old adventure games. How do you get the order paper signed early in the game?

Also, does the vita version have long load times when you want to take item out? Is that also in ps4/pc version?

dofry

That's "Dr." dofry to you.
I got stuck in Rubacava for a long time. The reason was simple, because I missed an item on the office table at the beginning of Year 2. Don't make the same mistake I did. Pick that shit up.

I had to check a walkthrough online for a clue because I could not get what I was doing wrong.

Go outside the building and you should see a side alley you can go into. Walk to the end of the alley and you should see a rope that you can climb up. Once you've climbed up walk round to Copals office window. Climb through, fiddle with his computer and then go see Eva again.

Thanks, I didn't see rope when I go there earlier... :(

Enjoying this game so very much (again). I love the slow pace, the conversations and the overall atmosphere. It works great on both the PS4 and the Vita (using the cloud saves). The Vita version is just a bit slower in loading.
Went to bed last night being stuck on the roof with those pigeons, just like some 16 years ago. :D

Great game.. my first playthrough ever (couldn´t stand the original PC version)..

Playing it on PS4, lots of glitches though.. animations that mess up, doors that don´t open because of glitched animations, text that doesn´t quite follow the spoken dialogue and more..
Biggest glitch for me though.. I played on the PS4, had a cloud save. Downloaded the PS Vita version, and when it loaded it asked if it should use the Cloud save I had. I said YES.. and that fucked up my game. The game loaded fine untill it was about to display the gameplay itself. The borders showed up and BANG a fucking error code. Error code told me to reset console or delete save. Reset did nothing, and you can´t delete saves. So I had to delete the game... And I had no time to redownload the 3.1Gb .. so never got to play the Vita version..

The game is fun, but some of the puzzles are just to hard.. When I was a kid my brain managed to solve puzzles in all Lucasarts P&C games, but my brain isn´t working like that anymore, and I lack the patience I used to have..

Only bug I've had so far was the texture for the bread stick not loading, but only for bread picked up after using the first one and picking up the second.
Though when I take the bread out I can see the very top texture has loaded.

I love Grim Fandango and I was looking forward to this port, but I am truly disappointed by the fact that it is 4:3. I was about buying the game when I watched a brief gameplay of the Vita version with those grey bars in a —relatively— small screen and then, I changed my mind.

I was expecting much more of this port or, better said, Grim Fandango deserves much more. The only thing that makes me want to purchase it is the new control scheme, but I am not even sure now…

I think you underestimate what it would take to improve things further.

It seems unlikely that they had access to the original assets used to create the backgrounds which is why they are low resolution and 4:3. The scrolling method used in RE:R would only zoom in further on low-res backgrounds and, due to the way Grim works, scrolling wouldn't really work all that well anyways.

Recreating all of the backgrounds would have been far too expensive. As much as we'd love to see it there's no way they could have justified that expense.

I've been playing mostly on the Vita, switching to the PS4 when I get home. Well, now I am in Year 2 and the Vita version has come to crash a lot. It also doesn't help I have no idea what to do next.
I've gotten Terry put in jail
.

I spend most of my day on the train, when not at work, so having the Vita version crash so much is exceptionally disappointing. I'd like for this to get fixed quick, but I'm thinking it won't. Just look at the fiasco getting it up on PSN.

I remember playing the demo for this game like a thousand times and always checking the cars outside the office hoping it would give me the option to leave the city.

When I finally bought the full game and
finally left the city, I was amazed how great and diverse the locations were

For me one of the happiest memories of my childhood.

I know you are completely right, but, as a customer, that does not mean that I have to accept a port with so few improvements, IMO they are exploiting the nostalgia factor and I am a bit tired of that. Perhaps it is my fault in the sense that I was expecting more on the graphic side: not a remake using a modern engine by any means, but at least to have a wide-screen remaster on Vita. It reminds me of Dragon's Crown port on PSP and that comparison could not give me worse vibes.

I absolutely love El Marrow and Rubacava, but I think the areas after don't compare quality-wise (mostly puzzles, locations and story). Still, I'm very glad that I can finally play this fine piece of adventure software again.

The old school model puzzling is still the best even with all its silliness (like the puzzles in the forest in Year 1). Feel very nostalgic and thankful for the remaster, development commentary is great as well but sometimes they cut off and Manny got stuck in one screen (forgot to save lol).

I think about some of the design decisions of yesteryear versus what I take granted for today (subtle / not subtle hints, autosaves between screens, simpler or no puzzles in favour of this or that decisions and a streamlined dialogue tree) some of the 'trial and error' puzzles are still infuriating until the 'aha' moment like the forest puzzles. Onto Year 2 now.

motherfucker, just got stuck in an elevator in Rubacava. the animation on the elevator doors somehow glitched and now Manny is stuck inside. so i just lost two hours+ of progress. think that might be it for me for this game.

Ouch you arent the first one to get stuck there. Somebody in the thread even posted a pic about hpw not to walk left of the elevator.

At least now you can finish the puzzles quickly right?

Apart from a glitch I had in Rubecava (after running past Najahara sitting in the tattoo artist's chair, I couldn't run back to the entrance, it kept bouncing me back. I eventually opened my inventory and the game froze), the game has been great. I've missed it so.

I think we just have more things competing for our precious time now than we did back then. If we were stuck on some obtuse puzzle in an adventure game as kids, we would just keep coming back to it until we figured it out. Now, I only have like an hour or so to play games on most weekdays, so I'm not gonna be inclined to remain stumped for the majority of that time on some obtuse puzzle. I try to figure everything out, but after 20-30 minutes of being stuck I have no problem using that hint guide that people have linked in this thread.

The younger me would have wanted to stick it out without the use of a guide no matter what, but as a working adult with precious little gaming time I don't feel like I'm about getting help to progress through the game more quickly.

Because I've just completed the first year in the game, PS4 version and I've encountered no bugs at all.

I've encountered quite a few, most of them movement of character issues that get stuck in geometry during an "interaction," and the game gets hung up because the model can't get to point to trigger the next dialogue and effectively freezes up the game.

Well, I had to look up what to do next. A new dialogue option opened up with Velasco that allowed for me to proceed with what I needed next.

I've taken to saving on my Vita constantly, because I just don't know when it is going to crash next.

That's just the thing though, putting this game in widescreen would require remaking it from scratch. The backgrounds are pre-rendered, so there's no geometry outside of what you can see. It's not as simple as pulling back the camera a bit and letter boxing it. What you see is all that exists.

I prefer the game to be like this personally. It's faithful to the original without remaking the entire game and it has it right there in the name...remastered, this isn't a remake. The changes that were made (like redone characters and controls) were definite improvements and really help this game's replayability. Of course I'd rather have 16:9 compared to 4:3 but this game is a product of its time. HDTV's were non-existent and the backgrounds are pre-rendered. There were only three possible solutions,

A) Remake all of the art assets which would have taken an enormous amount of time and resources, making it an entirely new game for all intents and puposes. This would have made this a remake rather than a restoration which I think was the intent of this release.

B) Use cropping/scrolling techniques to make it 16:9, which will essentially alter the artwork and backgrounds. GF uses static backgrounds for the most part anyway so using the same method that RE: Remastered used for 16:9 probably wouldn't have worked as well.

C) Leave it at its native aspect ratio with an option to stretch it to 16:9 if it really bothers you, which is what they went with.

I think they made the right choice all things considered. Who even knows if Disney would have let them put out the game if it would have been an entirely remade game as opposed to a restoration of the original. I'd much rather focus on the good because if you told me before E3 that Grim Fandango would be out on PS4, I'm not sure I would have believed it. :p

Walking back to the sleeping guy changes the view, so it makes it possible to walk past the guy on the phone again .

I knew...KNEW that I would get stuck early one and get irritated and this game did not disappoint. I was trying to get a lead on a client for about an hour before I gave up.

There's just some mentality needed for these games that I just don't have any more. I never would have figured out the solution on my own, it just didn't make sense to me. I don't want to use a walk through much but my tolerance for stand around trying to figure out what to do next is very low these days.

Now I realize how I missed these adventure games. I'm enjoying it as much as the first time I played it, I've never finished it due to a problem with the 2nd CD though.

Huh? No one was asleep or on the phone. There's the tattoo artist on the left, and the sailor in the chair taking a drink every now and again.

Finally got the game to work! I never knew this game had more Hispanic themes outside of the obvious visual stuff.

I was too young to play this the first time around, but now I'm reminded of the games I played growing up, like Freddy Fish and shit lol

At beginning of year 2.

Only bug i saw was in forest, trying to pick up the wheelbarrow. It went all weird and done the animation, but was inside the wheelbarrow, and i could move, but it didnt effect the position of wheelbarrow.

The only thing that is disappointing me with this game so far, are the weird graphical glitches every now and then on PC. I have literally had a more consistent experience and reduced glitches from the original PC version when modded. Sure it is all minor stuff like odd body contortions or artefacts, but it is still jarring
