Some initial impressions having completed Year One:
-Good story in an interesting world.
-Great characters and dialogue.
-Very funny.
"Run pigeons, it's Robert Frost!"
-Bullshit puzzles? Some, like the
tube-server
puzzle, have ridiculously abstract solutions. Idk, it's probably just that I'm not an experienced adventure gamer.

I don't get what I'm doing wrong in the pump puzzle. I've even looked up the solution and I still don't understand what exactly isn't working.

Play with the wheelbarrow until the two left pieces are moving together, and the two right pieces are moving together. It might take a bit to get it timed right (it always has for me). Then pull the lever so Glottis climbs up and then turn it back on.

Finally got "Rusty Anchor" and "Oh yeah, I could take you down...", making Grim Fandango my 13th Perfect Achievement game. Now to collect and sell the cards.

Just doesn't seem to work for me. I think I've got it, but apparently I don't and I'm not sure why.

"Run you pigeons, its Robert Frost!"
lol <-not really much of a spoiler

Thanks again Onion. Having a great time with it.

And ^ yea, I'm glad to hear that message machine puzzle isn't typical. That was not......intuitive....

No problem. Really happy that you're enjoying it. Best adventure game ever.

Also you'll be glad to hear I'm upgrading from my FX-8350 to a i7-5820K sometime soon :p

Impressions from a newcomer who just reached the forest area.

-The world is fantastic and I love the setting
-Voice Acting this good is very rarely seen in video games today.
-I cant tell if I like the puzzles yet. There have only been a couple smaller ones that I have been able to figure out without hints. But man this game expects a lot from you and I feel like it can do a bit more to guide you. A lot of the times I had the right overall idea but easily missed important pieces that are necessary to sucked.
-I appreciate that the game doesn't think of there audience lowly, and it really can feel like detective work sometimes which is cool.
-Little disappointed in the lack of updated backgrounds.

-Would love to see these type of mechanics implemented in a modern game like Batman. There is so much handholding in modern video games. Perhaps this is why Grim failed financially.

(my first point and click type game)

Oh really? I might of just solved this by accident. I was just screwing around when Glottis was spinning around and then I got the cutscene, so whatever I guess.

That way works too. I've always aligned them and then had Glottis get up there but either way is fine.

Enjoying my self. Promised my self to play it proper without a walkthrough. So far so good. I ran into some pixelated artifacts. Hopefully those get cleaned up with a patch or two.

I know some people are criticizing the remaster, but a working version with better controls is all I really cared about. As long as they get the bugs fixed up, this is the best version.

Played for another 2 hours. Game crashed/soft locked 3 more times. The save warning at the start of the game isn't messing around, but for the wrong reason.

Examine the Bone Wagon before you disarm the bomb in year 4.

Thank you. Now i finally got my platinum.

This is the forth time i beat this game and it was still as good as always. The only downside of this new version is the bugs, that happened to me a bit more often then they did when i played the original version. Not saying it is broken though, far from it.

The game is highly recommended anyway. If anyone is still on the fence, do yourself a favor and just buy it.

I'm in the
Petrified Forest with Glottis
and I love the game so far. The puzzles are tough but I have yet to look up a guide. Only problem I met so far is the
wheelbarrow glitching to a different location when I grab it.
Not sure if its a huge part of the puzzle but it kinda stinks. Really looking forward to the rest of the game though.

Alright I need a little help.
I'm supposed to get vip pass from chowchilla charlie but I didn't and now I can't get into another conversation with him, the bee is is jail and I need to get a lawyer for him who is in the vip room.
Anyone?

Absolutely loving it. I had this back in the day but was too young to understand the game and even the dialogue but playing it now oh my word it's brilliant.

I absolute love the dialogue and voice acting. Top notch and I haven't played a game with this level of writing or dialogue in ages. I actually can't think off the top of my head any game that beats this in that regard.

Some of the puzzles are so damn obscure though. Maybe it's me due to not having played adventure games in many many years but some of them just seem a bit far-fetched.

Other than that it's amazing. Had a smile on my face the entire 3 hours I spent on it tonight!

I am cracking up at the dev commentary

Throwing shade at the old Lucasarts IT Guy :D
Thought it was a neat tidbit that QA got to play an early version of the game with 3D models and black+white concept art for the environments. Probably looked pretty cool.

Also love how much Peter McConnell is in the commentary. One of the all time greats and this just might be his best score, really interesting to hear his thoughts on different pieces.

Have you talked to Velasco, and has he mentioned that you need a union card? I believe that triggers the option to ask Charlie about forging one.

Haha, yeah, that one and the rusty anchor song were new to me.
I thought the achievements would be useless for me, but they actually made me find some nice moments that I missed in the original version.

So how do I access my PS4 saves on Vita? I started on Vita, then continued on PS4 and the game automatically offered to download the latest save to PS4. Now I'd like to switch back to Vita for a bit so I uploaded all my Grim Fandango PS4 saves to the PS plus cloud using system settings. However, I can't access the saves on Vita. They aren't visible when I use the yellow PS plus symbol of Grim Fandango. Instead, I only have an option to upload my old PS Vita saves. Seems both PS4 saves and Vita saves are stored separately on PS Plus, and there is no in-game option to download the cloud saves of the other system.

After 5 hours I have finished the Rubacava storyline. Just fantastic, exactly the kind of game I wanted to play and it's every bit as funny and awesome as I have been told throughout the years, the jazz club had me giggling. The puzzle and detective work though, goddamn is it taxing; grabbing items, talking to characters and knowing which item to use where or with whom. Getting the hang of it though, better prepared for yr 3.

Also since the patch I haven't run into any bug, hope it stays that way.

Thanks man that did the trick. Gotta remember to talk to everyone next time.

The biggest piece of advice for people playing this game for the first time and getting stuck a bunch:

Walk (don't run) around each environment and watch Manny's head. His head and eyes tilt toward an object that can be interacted with (sometimes you can take them, sometimes he just comments on them). There are a few items in the first section alone that are easy to miss.

I know the urge to look up the answer and keep going is strong, especially since the game can get tough and abstract with its puzzles at times, but it feels great to figure stuff out for yourself.

So after a couple hours exploring Rubacava, I'm giving up on tank controls. Sorry Tim but I feel like I'm missing out on stuff. I didn't even know there was additional dialogue on different buttons (use/pick up) etc. I was also feeling a good deal of fatigue in my hand from just holding down movement keys. I'll still use it occasionally but everything is so spaced out.

I love this game but I'm starting to get really frustrated. I've been stuck at the same spot for what must be going on 3 hours now. I've checked every single corner and examined every damn item I have. I know I could look up hints or a walkthrough but I feel like I should be able to figure out what to do on my own.

It's really sucking the joy out of it :(

I haven't played this game yet, but often times in adventure games it's a good idea to take a break then come back with a fresh mind. Check previous areas, all your surroundings, try offbeat solutions. No use ruining the game for yourself.

:/ I was really liking this game but it got boring super quick. Adventure games are some of my favorite but this game "gameplay" and puzzles are pretty bad.

I'm on the forest part. So boring.

Anyone have any recommendations for modern adventure games that are awesome? Or what are considered the best today?

I really enjoyed Jolly Rover, felt like monkey island with a dog. Not the best by any mean, but was a simple joyful game.

Well I've been stuck here since the game released Monday night...so I come back to it each evening for an hour or so.

I think that after I figure out this part the rest of the game might make more sense, like I might know what types of things to look for/do. It's just this initial hump that's really hard. I'm going to try some more this weekend and if I still don't get it then I'll have to use a walkthrough.

I did make a bit of progress tonight though!! I found out that I can
stuff the bread in the tube and it gets shredded! But I shredded like 5 more loaves and nothing happened
So I'm thinking that I'm on the right track at least

God after all the silly controversies surrounding this game I can't wait to just sit down and play it properly this weekend. Still haven't finished Year One.

Dammit, I'm trying to get all the trophies on my first playthrough and I accidentally locked myself out of the "Oh Rusty Anchor" trophy because I went in a different order talking to people/collecting items so
Glottis was already in the VIP room by the time I got the Rusty Anchor card
