"GT7 is going to be a game that matches the very era that we live in, in 2015/2016"

Wasn't there an article earlier this year saying how gt7 will still feature standard cars? i hope that's changed..

also, for fuck's sake, change the engine sounds.

Uh, OK. So everyone should just ignore the things the guy in charge of Gran Turismo says? What he says doesn't matter?

When he casually says "you know this could possibly happen soon but who knows!", honestly that really doesn't matter. You don't hold the entire studio to that. All it means is that development is going efficiently.

They need to keep the quality high as people are starting to question Sony's first party development quality potential.

Only a few desperate people on GAF are doing that.

How is that trolling?

It has PS2 assets.

Some people are aggressively defensive about some stuff. I remember posting the thread that confirmed for the first time that 800 cars in GT5 would be PS2-level. I got straight up insults all around for simply stating the facts. :P

Matches the era that we live in? What does that even mean?

Could mean a variety of things.

-no more standard cars, all premium quality (doesn't mean that old cars that are only standard right now will not be present, but they'll choose ones from that list and make premium models)

- they may be thinking about competing with Forza in terms of customization

- more online and social

- appeal to a wider audience with stuff like rewind

- tons of paid DLC

just speculation really, but yeah could mean a bunch of things.

I think there's still a lot of bs flying in both directions. There were some ugly ducklings that were always pointed to and portrayed as representative of all 800, which was disingenous. But similarly there were some redone beauties that were used in the same way in the other direction.

We know a lot of the PS2 cars were carried over, but a lot were also somewhat redone and some completely so. And many were improved as the game was patched. Not to mention that the lighting model and new physics made the old assets nearly indistinguishable a good portion of the time during gameplay.

As they created a lot of high end models for PS3, when we get a PS4 game I imagine we will again hear a lot of "last gen models" or "10 year old models" when PS3 cars will be perfectly fine unless scrutinized with the biggest microscope.

I think the premium photomode models are perfectly resuable as-is with minor alterations, mostly related to material shaders and whatnot. I think they have more polygons than the vehicles in Driveclub. They are really absolutely ridiculous.

Personally, about the PS2 cars, four years later and I can't believe that actually happened. Some of them have since been patched and made to look more presentable in GT6...but they're still PS2-level cars. PS2 cars, man. At least I've made my peace with them being included in all GT games in the future.

Fix the menus please, they are fucking awful. I basically stopped playing they were proving to be such a time consuming chore.

Thanks.

Fix the menus.

This would be amazing. But I do agree with the complaints in regards to rolling starts, AI, the single player campaign.
I think they can give option to both starts ;) there are real races with rolling starts too... so I need both in the game.

I think the AI was good after Spec 2.0... it was close to Forza 3 and better than Forza 4 in my opinion... but of course any improvement is welcome.

I loved the GT5/GT6 single player campaign.

Bring it home Kaz, you still make the best driving model on consoles.

Hopefully 2016, next year is way too soon and a 2 year dev cycle in this era for a high caliber game like this is nothing. Plus I still have GT6, I can easily wait until 2016. Dont pull a Forza on us.

2016 is fine. I don't even really want multiple GT games per gen.

So the media bias, lack of integrity, and click baiting articles only go against the Sony games?

It goes whichever way is the most sensational. A company known for great games puts out 2 not-so-great-games? Disaster at Sony, studios collapsing.

Didn't PD expand to a second full studio in another region well before GT6 released? GT7 development may have started in parallel with GT6.

"By that I mean it’s going to be a game that matches the very era that we live in, in 2015 or 2016"

So f2p with DLCs, in-app purchase and server problems?

Expecting a fast turn around from PD actually. I don't know where they were going with on that comment as well but I assume they might move a bit faster this time around

I don't really see the PS2 cars as that awful if they are there for "historical" purposes. That means if I have a choice between no E190 and a standard E190 I will take the standard because that's a car I had in real life and it's fun to see it represented. The 787B is so iconic in my memory from GT2 or 3, it's a nostalgia thing.

Like you, I have made my peace with their inclusion.

And PS2 is not that long ago. Its 2005 and GT4, 9 years ago. A GT7 in 2016 will be 8 years after a GT5 in 2008.

Which is funny since they're still both really good and sold quite a lot.

It's odd when the creative mind behind a series accepts how behind-the-times a series is in terms of its features and execution, but its audience can't even parse the statement recognizing it. GT5 Prologue, GT5, GT PSP and GT6 (to a much less extent) had problems that they'll address in GT7. That's what the statement is addressing.

GT 1-3 were utterly groundbreaking in the genre. He wants a return to that standard.

The thing is that this kind of standard is way too much nowdays with current graphics and technologies. What took days to create new cars for a team, now take a whole week or more per car.

I would be surprised to see all the cars in "GT5-6 Premium" quality for GT7, but dont expect much that much more detail, those Premium cars are already quite a lot of polys, and they look amazingly good.

I mean, they should do like they did with GT3, do 300-400 premium cars and then start building a "database" with "premium" cars for their next games. This way, you would have the possibility of other late-GT game on the PS4 with much more cars, and probably better reviews, since at least it would have a lot more cars.

They're going to need to use higher quality textures, which they probably already have. That's something that can stick out on some cars due to a lack of ram that the PS3 had. Some others need to be touched up in terms of polygons to round some edges, but that's about it. They're mostly solid though

Those bottom two shots legit look like photos. Amazing.

I think it's partly a FOV issue, wider FOV = better sense of speed, but also inaccurate distances so not good for getting best lap times.

Other than that I guess they could add some motion blur and camera shaking.

Sense of speed in Driveclub is pretty good. I wouldn't mind having something similar to that in GT7. Give us option to either have shaky or static camera.

I tried to watch it, but the sound man....the fucking sound.

Yep that's another thing they really need to improve on as well. Not just the graphics.

In one of the interviews I've read, they took their time modeling these cars at such a high detail level in hopes that they'll re-use them for next-gen version. Looks like they were right.

It was with GT5 that Kaz mentioned that the car quality that they had was more suitable for the PS4 than the PS3. So we likely haven't seen their really high end models yet.
