It is a shame that this is not AT LEAST RDR2 level.
RDR2 was not RDR2 level at this point in its development either.

You see why devs dont like showing games early.
People say well we know its not final just show us whats going on.
Yet here we are, on a supposed hardcore gamer forum with posters talking about the graphics of a game thats far far from complete.

I work in Cyber Security, and the initial claim is a hacker, with that, here is what's going on.

- Everyone at Rockstar is shocked and completely dismayed and frankly stunned, its Sunday AM here in the US, and the hack happened overnight. Even the most immediate reactions to this may not come for a few hours. The person that files the DMCA has to wake up and process all of this. Working on a Sunday? Fuck you thanks for the crunch dick.
- This is a legal security incident. There is a good chance that Rockstar tells employees that they can't touch anything for 24 hours up to two weeks. They are going to have to hire an outside firm to take a snapshot of the current layout and understanding of the environment. They have to involve law enforcement and it's essentially like a crime scene. It varies how long this could take depending on how disaster ready they are.
- Once they establish what happened they are going to implement new workflows to prevent it from happening again. Like, let's say their cloud storage was hacked. They might even need to move to another host/vendor. Could be petabytes of data and everyone may have to learn the new workflows. Or their desktops were hacked, they may need to install new protection on thousands of desktops before people can start working again. If this was someone from the India team posting the data online after being fired, or showing off to be cool, they could move the game to another studio.

If this costs them 1 month of Dev time we are lucky and we should be playing GTA6 sometime between the fall of 23 and the spring of 24. Don't forget when this happened to CDPR they started over on CyberPunk and it cost them pretty much everything. Including launching CyberPunk in the middle of the worst global pandemic in 100 years.

I don't have a read on any code that was shown in the videos but if Rockstar feels like it will compromise the integrity of the game or GTA Online they may be forced to scrap all of this code. Which is what CDPR did.
Thanks for posting.

I didn’t realise CDPR started over. If that happens for GTA I’ll be fucking gutted, even though I’m not that hyped for it. Realistically we’re looking at a 6/7 year piece of work for GTA 6. A complete reboot would mean we’d be looking at a 2029 release 💀

Awesome huh and CDPR got shit for Cyberpunk, and that’s how the world works !

Not really worth it if it's going to lead to a delay of the game. Hopefully not.

Pretty sure Rockstar isn't going to say anything about this. They never talk about their games.

They didnt start over. What they redesigned was they IT security. As far as i remember they said the Cyberpunk code was outdated and not what the current build was using. The hacker actually got the source code of Cyberpunk, Witcher 3 and Gwent. And tried to ransomware CDPR that gave him the middle finger, after that the hacker put all the source codes up for auction.

Because normies don't know what alpha footage means. Also leaked source code has huge security implications.
It's the other way around. Poor network security leads to source code being stolen. They're spending money to find and fix security flaws for sure. But I imagine development is moving forward as it was before the leak.

"Chaos" is probably a bit hyperbolic.

and that’s why they don’t show it 😜 People who don’t have enough knowledge of how videogames are made , can’t objectively look at this material and understand this is not the final product.
Exactly. Leaks from an early build can lead to disappointment from very casual gamers or the ones without enough knowledge.

Footage of the game being leaked at this stage is no big deal, imo...The hacker having access to the source code, however, is not good news for Rockstar...

Fascinating. I'm not going to put too much weight in the state of things now nor do I want the entire game spoiled.

Hopefully they can tighten things upand avoid more leaks.

Hopefully GTA 7 takes less time to develop and they can beat hackers and leakers to the punch by releasing a game before official footage is reported on by the media and Take-Two is forced to sue journalists again.

If I'm reading this right the leaks came from a PS4 devkit ?

I wonder how old this is and if there is a PS4 version on the cards now as well.
Where did leaker state it's using ps4 devkits? Best case scenario they used old devkits to start prototyping/concepting and then moved to the ps5/xboxseriesx devkits. Releasing in 2024 or 2025 for ps4 would make no sense. The ps4 has been officially discontinued in terms of production too ane by 2024 the install base for current gen systems will be huge.
