GTA: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition |OT| Ah shit, here we go again

This is a real shame since there is still no perfect way to play this games on modern systems.
The whole trilogy is crap on pc modern hardware. You need thirtenag widescreen patch and silent patch to make them playable but hen still TONS of features missing from ps2 and bugs remain.
At this point, just emulation ps2 versions must be better, right ?

edit: I’ve finished all three on pc on release but back then I didn’t know any better and had no idea about missing features. Nostalgia can’t carry me that much too just replay them on pc as I did originally.
Same with 4 but this one I played on 360 and pc version has never captured the look and feel. Better than trilogy but still terrible port. GTA 1 to 4 are just best on original platforms

Why should Rockstar put effort on this port, why should they reward the fanbase they are only making millions on GTAV and those ports for GTAV are difficult to make, they deserve billions.of.profit not millions. Also Rockstar are getting flack for bad working conditions they don't deserve the hate give it a rest.
I've been saying the same in regards to how Rockstar milks GtaV and Rdr2 and refuses to update them for next gen consoles just so it's easier for them to be able to re-sell us those games in the form of remasters.

After that and now seeing how bad the gta trilogy has been handled, I'm pretty confident in putting Rockstat at the top of the list for most shitty game companies who treat their customers like shit (along with bungie, Activision, and ea)

gtfo yourself... never needed any game have 60 fps. but maybe this one has some problems ok that may be. but then whining kids about its not perfect or its not what they thought it will be.. well i saw what they where aiming for, and this is what they aiming for. ... noone will care for those crybabies here rly ...hope devs wont ...
I can't believe someone liked your post. There is always someone who defends these companies as vigorously and with personal attacks as you have. People rightfully calling out performance issues as egregious as this are somehow "cry babies". Have some standards man! This is the attitude that let's companies get away with this shit.

Best part is they just took away those games from all accounts. So you can't play games you've paid for.

This is honestly pathetic. These games were groundbreaking at the time and no hyperbole, I think this is disrespectful to not only fans but to themselves. What an absolute masterpiece RDR2 was so we know Rockstar are still super talented. To farm these iconic games out to these jokers at grove street, but then to actually be happy to release in this state is quite sad. I hope they can make it good but something stank about this from day one. Another nail in the coffin for preordering, there is literally no need to do it anymore. You get rewarded for holding off these days.

What a hack job, glad I didn't bother with this. Not only is it shock full of bugs, but it also looks awful but still manages to not run at a stable 60. Pathetic.

I spent some time with GTA San Andreas on the Xbox Series X. Thank God for Gamepass - saved me the exorbitant entry free for this trash fire. The fidelity mode looks like crap and runs worse, and performance mode runs like ass and looks worse. This game is 17 years old - rocksolid 4k 60FPS with all the bells and whistles is the bare minimum, and they can't even deliver that. The lighting is horrible, and the new character models are fucking bad.

I have physicals of the original GTAIII and San Andreas on PC and on Xbox. Thank God for physical media; Rockstar clearly have no intention of preserving these legendary games. I'll stick with the actual definitive editions.

I mean, to be fair he doesn't own shit. The most he paid for was the license to use the product but he doesn't own anything, and I can't imagine any sort of law is being violated here since it's probably stated clearly in the EULA what Rockstar can and will do. This is the digital future people have been clamoring for, and makes the whole "but I dON't NeEd tO swAp dIsCS!" or any other ridiculous variation of cheering on the benefits of digital games over physical seem ridiculous, even if issues like this are a rare occurrence.

Don't know anything about all that technical stuff but that sounds more likely than MS paint lol but yeah not really indicative of something lavished with care. Seems like a cash grab unfortunately if the radio stations are indeed gutted which almost certainly they are. Better off playing the originals on PC.
Original tracks are the new gameplay now that gameplay sent
I just don't understand why they are putting such minimal effort into these ports. The trilogy deserves love and care, not to mention a restored soundtrack. It's not like GTA V isn't still printing money for Rockstar. They should have just remastered these one at a time and put some proper effort into them. They could have charged more money this way. What a fucking
Well said. It's so frustrating it makes me want to scream. We have no voice as gamers now other than to not buy when yet another half assed game is released. Youtube and Twitch "influencers" as well as corrupt gaming media are a powerful force in how these games are marketed. It really can not be overstated how negative the impact their relationships with publishers and even developers has been on allowing these companies to get away with impunity some really deceptive things. Cyberpunk is a great example.

The 'power' right now is so far in favor of publishers compared to any other time I can think of in gaming. They are selling their games and raking in the profits in record numbers. They know they can get away with whatever they want to. If a game is released in a bad state or has features it was advertised with that are missing, we can complain and yell, our wishes never even get heard. The closest we have to communicating with a developer is via "influencers" and they are nothing more than another marketing branch for these companies.

I've been trying to get people to see this stuff and I've been either ignored or called a "hater" too. Rockstar is one of the worst companies now as far as I'm concerned. Just look at the latest trailer for Gta V remastered for next gen. They didn't even acknowledge that it was delayed (was originally supposed to come out now) and they're not even trying to take advantage or the new systems yet still charging full price.

GtaV and RDR2, the two biggest games out there are never getting a patch for ps5/x to improve resolution and framerate. Gamers just accept that Rockstar doesn't update their games because "they'll release a remaster in a couple years". It's crazy to me that there's no push back against them for stuff like that.
What are you 14? This is a significant upgrade over the originals.
Played a bit of all three games. I really like it.

They are not perfect by any stretch, but for old school fans like me? Yeah, it feels like an absolute treat.

The environments are stunning, especially San Andreas' graphics. Los Santos looks amazing. I also love how many neon lights Vice City has now at night and how much it pops. Hopefully they can patch some bugs out and fix the character models a tad, those are my only gripes.

Also really happy with the mission restart system. Having to drive to the mission every single time you failed made these games tedious as much as I love them.
I thought I was the only one enjoying them. Well 3, haven’t started on the others but it’sa blast and given way better treatment than people are saying.

The rain is fucking horrendous, really, really shit looking when playing. I can't believe any dev would be happy having that in the final product.

I've also had a dabble with the PC release, can lock it to 60fps with everything ultra etc. Runs fine but there seems to be something going on with the engine when running at 60fps. Like animations can speed up, punching etc, not ridiculously so, but enough to seem off. Sure having it set to high framerate speeds up enemies actions, like shooting and that. They seem to get furious super quick and can have you dead in a blink. Something definitely seems to be not jiving when running at 60. One of those cases of game speed/engine being tied to the framerate. Feels a bit Benny Hill.

Will lock it to 30 and see if there's any change.

At least now we know why they didn't release videos before release.
The original GTA creators left, right?
These remasters, plus the rumors about how messy GTAVI is at the moment, the fact the guys responsible for the creation of the entire series leaving...i feel like stuff is about to change for Rockstar.

Hopefully i'm wrong...

Wow, you guys fucking destroyed this game(s) in this thread. As a casual Chad GTA enjoyer, I've already played the three games on the original PS2/Xbox. Glad I didn't buy this "remaster". *Goes back to Forza Horizon 5*

Wow. San Andreas is fantastic thematically. The Thug Life Compton theme really works well with the GTA verse and this is the only time we'll ever see it.

I played through all 3 back in OG Xbox/PS2 days, and while these may not be all we hoped for, they definitely scratch the itch and my time in SA again has been fine.

If you liked the games previously, you will probably still like them.

We can all shit on Grove Street Games at this point but this shows enormous ineptitude on Take Two's part in my opinion.

Take Two went ahead and published this in this state. It needs another 6 months at least to clean it up and it needs a different team to work on the characters and models.

Rockstar - I mean allowing a game with the source code available to be uploaded to their own launcher. Did they just get a repository and click publish without even checking? It says they oversaw and co-developed this?!?!?

"we get the rare chance to see the studio – along with co-developer Grove Street Games – in a retrospective mood. With the games reaching their 20th anniversary, now felt like the right time to be nostalgic. But that’s not the only reason Rockstar decided to remake its games. There was another goal, too: preservation.

“It’s a way to maintain the titles for the next decade-plus without having to rip out our hair every time there’s a crash bug that we were having problems fixing because there are some terrible old tools,”

Strauss Zelnick believes there is reason why remasters from his company may perform better than the competition.

Take-Two's top executive has spoken about remasters, saying what separates his company's games from the competition is a focus on quality and making sure the remaster feels like it's taking advantage of the new hardware instead of standing as a simple port.

What we've done differently than the competition is we don't just port titles over," he said (via VGC). "We actually take the time to do the very best job we can making the title different for the new release for the new technology that we're launching it on."

And the dev excuse is they don’t want the games to feel very different from the original. I mean bullshit. From the cheap mobile menus to character models, it is obvious they did the bare minimum and that is fine IF you are going to ask for 20$ but asking full price for this? Really?

Got to laugh at Zelnick’s comments there. What an absolute cheeky bastard :messenger_tears_of_joy: Literally delivered probably the worst remaster in history and is throwing shade at other companies? Grezzo, Bluepoint - top class. Sony, MS and Nintendo are top class at remasters.

Even after this GTA fiasco, people will not understand why the digital future is not as bright as they assume.
Content is changed, deleted, or entire games are taken away from "buyers". Which is possible, because no one owns the purchased product - you just have a right to play the game for as long and in the state that the rights holder provides.
This is why we are now at the point that we are, where things you paid hard cash for can be stolen off you at a whim of a publisher and totally removed. Fuck the digital future and the pathetic shills that enabled them by happily giving up their consumer rights because they are lazy. It's going to get even worse as the years go on, now it's only the odd game or so but eventually they could have the audacity to totally nuke your library of rentals for any made up reason & you won't be able to do shit about it as you let them take all your protections like suckers.

That's why I buy physical games almost exclusively. PsPlus games and digital only games are excluded.
It feels good to put the original GTA Vice City disc into the PS2, hear the initial hum of the tube TV, and just play like it's 2002.
