This has to be under the influence of his newly modded brother. This kind of backdoor politics is RUINING GAF.

Holy Crap, so Seda is Seda Khold's brother, and is a mod now? How did I miss that, and when did it happen?

Guess this means the "Khold" jokes have to stop, or I'm gonna get banned...

Kos' Brother is Kvothe, not Khold. Kvothe doesn't have a GAF Acccount, to my knowledge, but there actually is a GAFer named Kvothe who is, in fact, not Kvothe. Seda Khold's brother is Seda on GAF, but doesn't go by that name in GW2. Confused yet?

Anything is better than the usual MMO Holiday fare. I think Blizzard has had the exact same holiday events for years, only changing up the Christmas present you get (One year it was a toy car, another year it was a BB Gun, etc.) and that's about it.

The quality of the presents took a nosedive in the last 4-5 years too. The aforementioned BB gun was... a gun... that you could shoot (the game already has functional guns)... did no damage... and had limited ammo. And once it was gone, it was gone forever. Only "fun" thing about it is that every class could use it.

All this talk of holidays reminds me; they need to have an "Awakening Festival" holiday that's heavily Sylvari themed. Have it on the anniversary of the day the Firstborne awoke.

It could be something like a Japanese cherry blossom festival. :) Or is that too Canthan?

Verily so. :S

I got the joke! :D

Me too. That's great that I got SOMETHING, at least.

I like this Hawkian movement. Too bad wubwub enemies won't see our name.

All Hawkian variants should be ugly Asura thieves just like his main.

Got an interesting phishing email this morning from "ArenaNet@guildwars2.com" saying my GW2 account will get shut down:

We didn't lose an officer, but a few have real-life stuff going on and haven't been playing as much. Just wanted to make sure there was plenty of coverage.

grats Seda Khold. Did we lose an officer?

Not really, though it feels like we've been a bit shorthanded since Ferny and Keoni stepped down. With Ash busy moving and Hawkian's computer problems, it seemed like we needed more people to just be around and help out.

We've been discussing new officers for a while and every time we had the discussion the same two names usually came up.

Really appreciate the help in the guild missions. The rush is the one I struggle with the most. The spider one was new but doesn't seem as bad as others.

Crab Rush in Southsun is the absolute worst because of all the events that spawn around it.

Spider Rush is a close second because the dredge respawn everywhere and people trying to escort / clear can't travel the same route as the spider players.

The other Rushes are a cakewalk in comparison to those two.

So.... your weapon and offhand choose your first 5 abilities, and you pick and choose your next 5, 3 of which are utility?

1-3 Mainhand, 4-5 Offhand.
Two-handed weapons occupy all 5.
Thieves are the exception; they have 1-2 for main hand, 4-5 offhand and 3 uses both hands.

6 is always a healing skill (choose from a handful for each profession)
7-9 are utility skills (your choice)
0 is always an elite skill (a few for each profession and race)

So in pvp most professions have 15 abilities and dodge?

Depends on the profession. Most will have 10 weapon skills (5 skills on two weapon sets), one heal, 3 utility skills and an elite skill.
Elementalists, however, have 20 weapon skills (5 skills x 4 elemental attunements).
Engineers can have up to 20 weapon skills as well (5 from their weapon and 3 kits with 5 skills each). They also have 4 toolbelt abilities that are determined by their heal and utility slot choices.
Warriors have two additional skills, an adrenaline-based attack for each of their weapon sets.
Thieves can steal items, giving them a new item-based attack.

That's more or less it. Other classes have stuff like pets, lichform (which grants 5 new skills to necros), passive virtues and such.

Quick question.

How much better are the Black Lion salvage kits than master kits? I'm up to 50 ectos now. Should I wait to salvage my rares for when I have a BL kit?

Thanks!

Two names come up?

The plot fattens...

If you have three mystic forge stones lazying around in the bank, use a Mystic salvage kit. I haven't seen any recently updated salvaging data comparing the different kits, but if you have the forge stones then the mystic kit is more cost effective than a master's. Should still be 1 ecto per rare on average.

So if I have only done the first lighting effigy quest what are the chances I can finish enough to get those shattered wings by the time the event is over?

The story stuff should give you a handful of easy achievements (4 or 5). Eating candy will just be a cheap handful of clicks which you can grab from the tp. Talk to the various reps or whatever in LA is quick. You should only have to do 1 or 2 of the other, longer "do x of y" things to get your wings.

The story stuff is very condensed by the way and shouldn't take long at all nor really require a guide, though Dulfy exists if you need one.

Awesome thank you! I have until the 9th right? I better hit that stuff hard tomorrow.

Edit: do I only need 8 of the achievements? Or all of them?

So dudes. First off, this is like the first time I remembered there was a community area. Props to me. Secondly, a lot of my pals are finally buying this game. All sorts of reasons held them back from purchasing it on launch (ex: no internet for half a year) Anyways, when I picked it up at launched I leveled a Guardian to 45, and spent way too much time with cooking. I got a 27 Engi up on the side too. Then people quit the game and I moved onto DotA 2 and never looked back. Well now my other group of friends wants to play, and I've been itching to play all summer so I'm down to roll back in. I have no idea what I wanna play, though. I've been heavily considering an Asura Mesmer or Charr Ranger. I want to start fresh with the group, plus it's been a long time since I've played.

Can anyone give me some details on these two classes? The pros/cons, I guess? I'm not even sure what I'm looking for in an answer. I guess I'm looking for someone to convince me which one is more awesome.

For reference, I was all up in the gladiator business in WoW and a hardcore pvper before mostly quitting MMOs entirely. So I know I'll do a lot of WvW and stuff.

Thank you

Oddly enough we were debating mesmers on the previous page.

My personal opinions is that mesmers are a fantastic and fun class that plays very differently to any other MMO, *but* the current balance and game set-up means they are far more a PvP class than PvE. In PvE the majority of the cool tools you get aren't very good and you'll be stuck with a pure dps build of one of two kinds. In PvP though the class is hilarious and great fun.

I just started playing yesterday and went ahead with a Mesmer. Loving this game ATM! Spending my time doing Dragon Bash stuff right now.

I'm okay with that. I noticed how a lot of the Mesmer utility skills are well, utility based. Doesn't seem like there's a lot of options for damage. So that leaves me wondering how people level effectively with the class. Any suggestions?

No matter your spec until you hit level 40 and get the 'illusion on dodge' ability you are going to level very slowly. Personally I used greatsword + sword & pistol but the staff is also very popular as a defensive weapon.

I can't give you any insight on Rangers, as that and Elemenatlist are the only two classes I haven't leveled to 80.

But I will say, that I made a random trash Mesmer alt of mine my main, simply because I fell in love with the class post 60. Which says a lot - the class is severely underpowered until 60. I was basically mocking it the whole way while leveling it.

The thing about the class is that it takes far more skill from a player to be good at. There is content that is challenging with my Mesmer that is a cake walk with my Guardian. But my Mesmer can also accomplish things my tough as nails Guardian can't. I feel like I can enter a room of enemies and come out on top of nearly any situation - and if I fail, it's all on me. The Mesmer has so many tools for any situation that it's kind of ridiculous. And this is me basing it all on PvE. I will say though, it is not a beginner class and I'm sure I would be dying left and right if it was my first character. You definitely need to know the mechanics of dodging at the right time to stay alive. Though this is true of almost all classes.

I bought this game at launch, but then sorta just stopped playing within a month. Are there still random events with lots of people that happen, or would I be more likely to be alone if a random event happens?

Not too likely. Everyone mostly sticks to the events that give chests for rares.
But you'll run into random people either leveling or map completing sometimes.
