Pretty good.

And it's more homoerotic than SEED. I didn't think it was possible.

Okada saving Gundam from itself.
DTL watching this ep be like

Wait, am I the only one not completely getting the bro vibes between Orga and Mika. With how dependent Mika seems, feels like Orga might be just using him.

Or maybe I'm just reading too much into Orga's flashback and creepy smile.

Episode 1

I'm still going to keep my expectations low for now, but that was a good first episode. Once it got past the cookie cutter introductions there was a much better flow. Both Kudelia and Mika aren't what I expected so I'm interested in seeing more of their characters.

The action is shot/drawn a little weird but still looks nice and all the mecha designs are great. And I loved the introduction of the Barbatos. For me it's up there with the intros for the Strike and Exia.

Princess' aid is my bae.

I was amazed at how she managed to get dressed so fast when the attacks first started.

I really liked that first episode, especially the music. I prefer the land based battles more too. I'm excited for more.

I don't sense "bro" vibes. I think Mika knows he's being used, but he's sort of blindly depedent on Orga or just okay with being used. Orga needs Mika's skills for some ulterior motive for sure.

Really enjoyed this.

The land battles were pretty cool too. I was hoping this anime be good and it seems Sunrise has delivered - already anticipating episode 2!

So Far I like Mika, he isn't brooding MC type like Setsuna but also isn't love everything type like Kira. Kinda an inbetween which is nice :D

Saw the first ep and it's not too bad, I like the music. Names are dumb ass fuck, but it's Gundam. I'm thanking God nobody has Setsuna syndrome so I don't have to constantly hear Kudelia Aina Bernstein. Mikazuki actually seems like a better pilot than Setsuna cause I don't think Setsuna would make a Tieran work for him. It's not even a day old and DTL found Yaoi, has to be a record?

First episode was great aside from the abrupt start. The info dump could have been done slower but eh, at least it gets everyone up to speed almost instantly. The character designs outside of Orga are pretty down to earth, which I like. Kudelia (or Kuderia based on the infopad lol) is nice and so is Fumitan. The Gjallarhorn uniforms are nice looking.

I really like the Mobile Workers and the Gjallarhorn suit designs. Barbatos looked boss too.

Only other thing is the show is screaming for DTL.

It's Niagara Falls for DTL

First episode was middle of the line for me. I'm liking the difference between workers and suits. The characters have a lot more personality too, but it felt tension-less.

I always have low expectations for gundam, but I liked this episode a lot. Well, not too much, but it was good. Like the designs of the characters (Orga does stick out but at least it aint a show full of designs like his), designs of the mechs are great too, and the OST is on point.

Pacing I didn't like, composition is always important but don't switch off so many different scenes and places so quickly. That part could've been slowed down. Other than that the fight was great, and the ending was too good.

and lol, at first when I was watching it I was thinking why tf are they not wearing shirts/armor, is it to show just how much their army doesn't give a fuck about them? Didn't even cross my mind about pandering till I came in here and saw DTL's post :lol

Pretty good first episode, liked what I saw from all levels. But I've already learned that you can judge a Gundam anime (any anime actually) by its first episode. I remain cautiously optimistic for now.

And lol DTL, chill out a little.

It is pandering, but at least they give an in-universe explanation. Not like they couldn't have holes in their shirts. I'm guessing in space they'll have to wear normal suits.

Eh, all Gundam shows have had decent first episodes. Let's see how it unfolds. The exposition during the middle of the episode is kind of worrying though. Even SEED's first episode didn't have that many talking heads from random factions. Could be Wing all over again with dem hunky orphans.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one that got a bit overwhelmed by that info dump near the beginning of the episode.

I really enjoyed and excited for the next episode! Might give it another watch tonight.

Pretty solid start. Although too many characters shown and too much background information in this first episode, I didn't get what exactly was going on...And I really don't like how they draw the muscles on human body.

I liked it quite a bit. The focus on grunt tactics with basic versions of mobile suits (mobile workers) was cool. In addition to seeing actual mobile suits. It seems that spinal implant is only used for the mobile workers as the Gjallahorn guys were wearing full uniforms in their cockpits.

I guess the spinal implant stuff is old technology possibly.

I...I liked it...?

Mari Okada, dumb looking mechs, awful character designs...I don't understand, where did this all go right? I wasn't even planning on watching this.

Topless guys very much appreciated etc

Wow, that was a hundred times better than any episode of Reconguista.

Its depressing how far Tomino has fallen. He's like the George Lucas of Japan or something.

This Mika character reminds me of Setsuna from 00 too much.
Hope he'll get some actual character development.

I think Mika is almost opposite to Setsuna. Setsuna has a clear goal for his doing but Mika, as far as we know, just follow Orga around and doesn't have his own purpose for his fight. Also Mika is naturally strong while Setsuna is just a brat in an overpowered MS.

I find Setsuna to be an emotionally deranged ex religious fundamentalist that has no idea regarding how the world and people works. He was pretty much pretending to be human and failing at it badly. Even Heero grew into a decent person, Setsuna couldn't even be asked to sex up Marina Ishmael until she was a great grand gilf.

Finally got around to sit down and watch the first episode. Some quick and dirty impressions:

  • I appreciate the show not treating me like an idiot but there were too many characters introduced within seconds of one another. This supplanted the need for a continuous usage of dialogue where people address one another by name and rank and it gets re---eeal awkward. But hey, growing pains, so I’ll learn to live with it.
  • Character dynamic is throwing me off, seems they split the protag duties into two separate characters. Mika gets the piloting skills and Origa gets tactical genius. Remains to be seen whether Origa gets to sit in the Captain’s chair whilst Mika’s personality gets fleshed out.
  • Every adult is ugly, cowardly and weak. In a show where these kids ride into battle shirtless, this makes me rather uncomfortable.

That’s it, basically. Decent action, good animation etc. I think I’m in it for the long haul.

Well the point of the show was that being a "human" wasn't all that great to begin with though it was of course extremely heavy handed and the execution terrible. The inherent war like nature that would inherently become a problem whenever humans actually interacted with another species is literally the whole plot of the show.
