Gwent - Open Beta Thread: Not bad, not bad at all

Yessss and in other card games: You can blow through those "bad draws" by drawing from your deck during your turn to at least get out of bad situations.

Gwent's mulligan is pretty much RNG. You can "blacklist" cards but even then you may get another copy of a card you already have (like 90% of the time with these starter decks) and never get the "solution" to a problem you're facing against factions. It's the one thing that pisses me off about the game: You can't answer a "lose" situation by trying to get out of it. It's basically "welp, I've lost."

You cant expect to have a solution for everething, especially in a starter deck. NG decks let you look at some cards of the deck and draw from there.

What do you think about a penalty for forfeiting in Ranked? More than half of the matches are forfeited in the last rounds. I'd like to see a Matchmaking ban starting with 15 minutes.

No excuses.

If you don't have the cards then you don't have the cards. Sometimes I straight up forfeit because I know I can't win. It's not to spite anyone, but rather save us both some time.

This new deck swim has been playing on stream is so funny. Can't wait for him to finish it fully. I miss to many cards myself for the list though.

Dwarf decks and "milfgaard" in general are the most OP right now in the game.

It's weird that I never see ST decks then, it's ALL NG or Monsters.

I lost a game because I was too quick to pass and didn't realise I went behind by one point with Geralt in hand, would have been a 100% win :|

Also people are salty as fuck when they don't GG at the end.

8-0 so far with this nilf deck that I netdeck.

Jesus Christ.

edit: question, I forgot how Geralt: Igni works... do I have to put the card on the row (front, mid, back) that I want to destroy on the opposite side?

Hmmm, I'm thinking about creating a Morkvarg buff deck that ensures having him and Wild Boar in the first round. Needed buff cards and Hunters will get in. The rest will be filled with neutral cards that do damage, which means weather like Skellige Storm, Ragh Nar Rog etc. and stuff like Manticors Venom. Geralt Aard would be a nice addition pushing them units into one row for targeted damage.

How the hell do you beat the Dagon Monster challenge?

Win first round. Pass the second. Third round get weathered and have no weather clearing card despite having 3 in the deck never drawn.

>:| Can't exactly put a Gold on every row since it won't stop damaging the bronze units so it's a matter of time before they weaken my numbers to the point of easily beating me.

You can bait the fog really easily, too. Drop a card on the row you use least first placement of third round, and just let that card roast.

I had the game glitch and get stuck on a screen when I forfeited and now I look like a salty no-gg giving loser when I couldn't do anything.

I'll say it again: Tibor is bs.

Edit: And **** these ******** playing six weather cards in one match. There isn't even enough cards in the game to counter this.

As a Skellige player - bugger Niilfgaard. I haven't got that bear card yet, so Vicovaro Medic completely destroys my strategy. I may as well forfeit when I see Niilfgaard against me.

Hm, I guess someone of the GoG staff messed it up when I got a refund today (accidentally severed my Gwent <-> GoG connection).

Imperial golems seems like a really strong card for what it does. For reference, it's nilf, 3 power, orders: summon this minion.

Then I am running this gold card regis, neutral, 8 power, turn timer 2, start boost self by 7 if winning round. So 15 power if it triggers.

And since imperial golem (when summoned from playing leader card) lets me basically get 9 power instead of 3 (12 if running 3 of the golems I only own 2), and play/replay another card (effect from my leader)... seems like a strong combo. Not to mention it thins your deck by 3 making your future draws more likely to hit golds and silvers.

I guess imperial golem might be worth crafting a third of, although it does dilute my bronze draws before I play my leader card.

try repair, relogging galaxy maybe, etc?

The "Orders" tag in general is incredibly powerful since you open up with a huge play and good deck thinning.

I think I really need this vanhemar card. But nauzica standard bearer might even be better since I can draw it off of emissary since it's bronze. I own neither and can't craft either since I just crafted another impera brigade. Clear skies is just not a good card imo and can't be fished for at all in my deck. And in matches where weather is bad, a random bronze card is really bad (for my deck, can get a 2 power card).

Keep hovering around 2k mmr and rank 12. Which worried me, but I mean top 1000 pretty much starts with rank 13 so it makes sense. Hopefully rank 13 tomorrow.

Even as a newbie you can tell which faction or deck is OP by how often you match against them. I think about 80-90% of my matches are against Nilfgaard. I can only remember one game today that wasn't.

Oh nice, just got another gold.... rainfarn, succubus, vabjron

I think I am going with rainfarn. Looks like a really strong card for my deck.

I don't think popular means OP in card games like this.

I am playing nilf though only because it's the deck I enjoyed the most out of the starter decks I tried out. Whether or not nilf is OP had nothing to do with my decision.

edit:
Cool I just lost to an invisible weather effect in my front row. I could have played slightly different and saved a total of 6+ power. And another issue is that the combat log didn't even show the weather card they played. Frustrating.

Not being able to play your cards because they disappear from your hand might be the dumbest thing I've ever had to deal with in a game

Can't believe this has happened to me like 3 times in like 20 games. Literally unplayable, not joking, this isn't even something that should happen during pre-alpha.

Agree popular doesn't necessarily = OP but when it's such a high percentage of people playing a faction/deck then it's pretty obvious it's OP in some way.

And yeah the combat log should be a lot better, if someone plays a weather from another card then you don't see that, doesn't help when you're trying to learn what cards do.

Hearthstone had a bug where cards would swap position in your hand when you went to play them. That was even worse because it made you look stupid as fuck playing a card that made no sense to play.

Zoltan or Draug for my final card pick?

I've always liked Zoltan so I'm thinking him.

Which Zoltan is that, the one that summons a friend or the one that moves?

If it's the moving one then that one. Draug is a lackluster monster Legendary.

The ability is 'Move 3 units to the row on their side. If they're allies, strengthen them by two'.

Edit: I misunderstood 'moves' there haha.

Just look at this unplayable shit. Just unbelievable, can't play that one last card. This game, I won. But the other 3, I've lost because of this.

I wish I knew what I was doing before I cannibalized all my faction leaders to create cards with Scraps.

Now all I have is Eredin and Unseen Elder ... for the forseeable future.

Also .... Nilfgaard really feels like easy mode.

Isn't the number just a UI bug? I've had that where it's said I have 1 more card than I actually do but I haven't actually lost any cards

No, the games I've lost, cards have literally disappeared during final round mulligan. Like, I was supposed to get 3 cards and they gave me 2. You could also see the card "gap" between my cards, like this:

[ ] ..... [ ]

And now I had to play out an entire round 3 with this screen in front of my face:

I have no idea what's going on with this game, but this is not open beta material. Balance changes, network optimization and minor tweaks should be part of open beta - not game breaking stuff.

Any tips against weather for skellige queens? Played a round against dagon monsters where they used skellige storm, 4x biting frosts and ragh na roog.

Weird, both gwentup and gwentacker are doing nothing when I launch them. It starts an icon in the system tray but nothing after that. Only option is to exit.

edit:
I think I figured it out by restarting or something.

edit2:

Damn, card text in this game is kind of a joke. What is the difference between weaken and damage if shield blocks both

Damage is a temporary decrease that goes away if the thing goes to the graveyard or back to your hand, weaken is a permanent decrease.
