First of all what review from Jim Sterling are you referencing here? I have no idea.

Second, that guy gets criticized all the time for his reviews so I don't know what you're talking about.

Third, 'frustrated fanboys?' Really?

Finally, reviewers are welcome to their opinions; but that doesn't mean we can't look at the points they're making and decide if they make sense or not. You can look at reviews with a critical eye.

Wow, that review.... Only thing I can agree with is there is a serious Tron vibe in the Forerunner levels. Everything looks like a Recognizer. Other than that, yeah I get it.... He doesn't like it. 1 out of 5, though? WTF!? That's basically saying it's on the level of Duke Nukem or worse. Talk about being melodramatic.

Edit: Yeah I know it's his opinion. Well, my opinion is he's melodramatic. Thanks for your opinion, never-heard-of website.

I like Tom Chick, not his writing, (he has the communicative skill set of a clothes peg), but his scoring. Far too much of the press use the first eight tenths of the scale on technical competency, then the last two on 'subjective' quality it seems. Tom Chick treats it like a film review. No one questions the competency of a film, Prometheus doesn't automatically get an 8/10 or better just because it didn't fundamentally fuck up. Film reviewers will happily give the big, wildly loved, technically well made films, terrible scores, because those things are presumed and completely irrelevant.

I have no problems with these low scores, but part of me cant help but think maybe some of these review sites are just looking for hits, it is Halo after all.

Eh, getting extra website hits by giving a major title a low score is not the issue here. It is content of his review that is making people shake their heads. If he had scored the game based on what the actual game is about then fine; but to go into a game review and complain that it is NOT more like the other popular franchise (in this case it was COD) is just shit.

Also Tom Chick is a dolt.

Last time I checked Roger Ebert give it 4 stars to Prometheus
 
Tom Chick is pretty well known as a kind of "troll" reviewer. However he's kind of like Yahtzee in that even though he's absolutely shitting all over every game he actually brings up a lot of valid points.

I'm not reading that review because of spoilers, but I look forward to giving it a look after I finish the game.
 
Shame that these piss-poor reviews drag down the meta-critic.. Im not talking about bad scores, Im talking about shitty reviews. Its now at an 88.. Really hope 343's bonuses weren't tied to Metacritic.

It's not about selectively picking. If some asshole gave away ending spoilers in a 10/10 review, I wouldn't post it either.

Fucker has no concern for people who actually care about the story. It's inexcusable.

I just thought I would chime in and tell everyone to shut the hell up already.

This discussion is pointless. Halo 4 is the videogame industry's equivalent to a hollywood blockbuster. Discussing reviews of this game is pointless and idiotic. We're talking about a flashy, obnoxious, and expensive game. This game is pure spectacle (like a hollywood blockbuster) and that is completely fine. In fact, I'll be one of the morons waiting in line at midnight tomorrow to get a copy.

Reviews are not objective. Reviews are not scripture. Its frightening how much some of you people are indoctrinated into the... I don't know "ideology" of this product. Gaming commodity fetishism? This is not the videogame equivalent of Citizen Kane people. This is just a dumb game where you run forward and shoot aliens.

Also, everyone having this objective vs. subjective debate needs to grow some god damn brains. It shows that you know nothing about journalism, literature, or writing in general.

I also realize I am mostly talking to 15 year old boys right now. At least I hope you guys are 15. You are 15, right?
