I like Tom Chick, not his writing, (he has the communicative skill set of a clothes peg), but his scoring. Far too much of the press use the first eight tenths of the scale on technical competency, then the last two on 'subjective' quality it seems. Tom Chick treats it like a film review. No one questions the competency of a film, Prometheus doesn't automatically get an 8/10 or better just because it didn't fundamentally fuck up. Film reviewers will happily give the big, wildly loved, technically well made films, terrible scores, because those things are presumed and completely irrelevant.
