Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

Wow, glad there was a demo , reminded me why I quit playing halo. The boards are like a spiral staircase with best weapons at the top . The assault rifle is garbage . I'll chalk it up to just not my type of game , every battle ends up players 5 to 10 feet away strafing circles or left to right . I liked combat evolved , but brings back memories of why we all went to cod and bf
So you quit halo but bought mcc to play this?

I cant tell you how much better the AR is in this game. I don't understand the hate, please go play halo 3 that AR is shit.

Why?

I never have a problem avoiding them and this is in part due to the Dash system. They chuck one and I just immediately create distance. I'm still alive and they've just waisted a nade.
There is no indication as to where one is. I've had so many random deaths as a result if not knowing a grenade (or 3-4) was chucked at my feet.

Cod is garbage compared to this competitively speaking.

It's become too good.

Medium range, first person to see and shoot wins pretty much.
That's not true. I got quite a few reversals already when they had the drop on me. I just retreated and bounced a nade in theit path then mow em dowm. You can survive even if you font have the drop if ur smart in that situation

Better than nobody touching any other weapon and just holding a BR from spawn. And essentially if you start shooting first you're generally going to win.

So, you like see first, shoot first = win gameplay? Guessing you love SWAT?

EDIT: ^ post above me. Didn't say it was absolutely the case. I'm willing to bet you've lost way more often than you've won encounters where you got fired upon first by an AR at medium range.

The AR is certainly more powerful now than it's ever been, but a solid BR/DMR at mid/long-range still trumps it, in my experience.

It gives folks a fighting chance, but I don't think it's overpowered at all. The SMG, on the other hand, could use a nerf—in terms of range and/or accuracy.

In other news, I haven't been able to make a party with the folks I used to play with. :( Maybe I'll have better luck during the weekend.

I always drop the magnum for a BR and keep the AR for close to medium range. I really like this game i just wish we had more maps. I kinda wish i could crouch jump but the ground pound is dope when used right.

This game is so good. Best Halo game since Halo 2.

I like the graphics, sounds, very balanced weapons, and even the fights for power weapons are fun.

Nades are fine. What's causing people to spam them is that they have a hit marker. So as soon as you chuck a nade and get a hitmarker you chuck another one instead of moving in to finish the job with a gun.

Remove nade hit marker and watch it be a non issue in seconds.

I think its this actually. Whenever im in cover and get pinged by a grenade I always stay still. Still in that Halo 1-reach mentality.

Fuckin hitmarkers.

Of course ive lost more than won if i got shot first...they spotted me and have thr clear advantage...whats wrong with losing the encounter if they found u first?

I barely played it tonight. Mostly Halo 3 online. Which actually worked!

You need to be able to re-map controls because they suck right now. Why can't you change them? Unless I'm missing something?

Killcam is stupid too. Idc about the last few bullets which killed me

If they see you first its an advantage but the cool thing with Halo compared to most other shooters is that them seeing you and shooting you first isn't a death sentence like in CoD.

Hence the reversal medal.

Guns;

- BR/AR feel good to shoot. Perfect Kill medal is awesome. DMR/Pistol not so much. The kickback on both can be incredibly frustrating. Or maybe it's just flinch...
- Flinch needs to go. Period.
- AR headshot damage is unnecessary.
- The sniper needs tweaking. It feels slow and clunky. Scope in needs to be instant. Fire rate needs a buff. And the sound of getting sniped needs to be amplified. I can't tell if I'm getting sniped until I already get sniped.
- ADS. If you're going to defend the change and say it's purely cosmetic, then make it purely cosmetic. Otherwise the advantage for scoping in for automatics needs to be slightly reduced.
- Functionally, I don't mind ADS. The zoom-in needs to be instant. If I switch weapons, I should be able to scope in right away like old Halo's. Visually, the screen is cluttered, especially with the DMR. The DMR's look is awful. It's awful to use, it's awful to look at. The other weapons not so much, but if you insist on designing a different ADS for every weapon, I'm a bit skeptical. Already I can see the Lightrifle's ADS isn't great. I'll never accept ADS in Halo, but I will begrudgingly get used to it.

Movement;

- Slide is useless. No one uses it. It doesn't add anything to the game.
- Sprint still has it's moments where it calls for its removal. You can get from base to base on Truth without punishment so easily. It disrupts the flow of the map. People can still turn tail and run away.

Maps;

Truth;

- Gorgeous.
- But really hard to differentiate between towers. There needs to be more visual cues. Maybe remove the roof off Carbine tower or make Pink tower actually look pink.
- Does not work with AR starts. Spawning/pushing tower with an AR/pistol is miserable due to how open it is.

Empire;

- Between the two it works better with AR starts due to it's smaller side and number of smaller rooms.
- Lack of sightlines between outside and inside. Tower needs to be expanded a bit. Remove some cover and open the map up a bit.
- The map size is nice right now, but having to clamber to get anywhere up top is kind of a buzzkill.
- If two snipers are to work on this map, they should be at either starting base. Then have like sword/overshield outside/tower.

Other;

- I hate the beginning/end 'cutscenes' of spartan's being bros.
- Bring back the countdown before the game. Right now it's just 'spartan trying to look co- OK GO'
- Probably still being tweaked but, if you're gold and you're searching alone, you should only match up with other gold or higher. If you're with an onyx/semi-pro, then match accordingly. I searched earlier with my friend who has the Pro rank, but our teammate was someone who hadn't even been ranked yet. One game I won maybe 50-11. Next game I get defeated 50-5. It's beyond inconsistent.
- Sound design is by far the greatest it's ever been. Every grenade, punch, bullet sounds like it hurts.
- Weapons on map need to be more apparent. Halo 2 anniversary did this well.
- It should be press 'X' to view killcam, not the other way around. The killcam as it is does not function very well, and it's been 3 iterations. Kinda hilarious.

Also, why can't maps only have certain gametypes. Earlier I mentioned Empire works with AR starts but Truth does not. Why not make certain maps have gametypes catered to them when it comes to AR/BR starts.

Pretty much what Hulk said. I've had a few reversals but obviously if they get the drop on you how could you expect you should win every time. You are at a massive disadvantage.
If you have a better weapon like the SMG you could have a better chance to fight back even if they had the drop on you.

Of course ive lost more than won if i got shot first...they spotted me and have thr clear advantage...whats wrong with losing the encounter if they found u first?

It decreases the necessity for ability and skill.

In the good Halo games, the ability to shoot your way out of situations through skill is way more likely. A highly skilled player should have 50/50 odds in my opinion.

It just feels cheap to get out of a winning firefight, let your shields go up, reload, only to have someone AR you during your reload and your odds to win decrease dramatically.

In H1, H2, and even H3, even if you got shot first and you had the skills, you could win.

This? It's way too skewed back the other way favoring the player with the AR.

I'm only talking about the AR. I have no problem if someone gets a first shot on me with the BR or DMR because you can still rely on your aim and ability to dodge to win. It at least feels like, "hey, that guy got me, he hit all 4 shots on me" But getting shot with AR? "Oh good, that idiot got to hold down right trigger and run at me"

Well, I'm usually playing with headphones, so don't have problem hearing them, not to mention they tend to leave a fairly visible toss-trail.

I agree with the bolded.

You're demonizing the AR too much fron previous Halos where losing to an AR was pretty shameful cuz it was trash in battle.

You're no longer limited to using just the BR/DMR the entire march and i think its for thr better. I rock a BR and AR when i play. I use thr BR at distance and use the AR when im closer.

The skill gap is still there. A skilled player will use their nades/gun/melee/movement/terrain to win encounters. I see this going on. I think its just to foolish to expect to win every battle because you think youre more skilled with a power weapon. Ur opponent isnt spraying like mad, they're aiming at you and have a fair shot to take you down.

Either battle it out, retreat/run for mates or die

the other thing ive found with this game compared to previously Halos is the melee lunge is huge in this game. i get melee'd from longer range and it really throws my game off.

Ah... entitled elitist skilled players holding onto the golden years of halo....

It's no derp rifle in H5. Just keep the AR opponents at bay with distance and you own them with range weapons

Can you use it while derp face and drooling on your controller? Then it is, and always will be a derprifle. It just so happens it's now hilariously overpowered so the cod kiddies can get kills.

I don't expect to win every fight, but right now, the game seems too skewed to the AR user. Again, would rather a 50/50.

I'm willing to bet 343 will nerf the AR to some degree for launch.

Blue team just blends in the background. If you are red team, you might as well quit.

Hide in top dark corner as blue team with long range weapon. ADS with SMG all the time.

I hate this beta.

there is NO AR headshot damage. Ram confirmed it and you can verify by checking the weapon of destruction for anyone that has the AR as their weapon of choice. zero headshots 100% of the time.
