In an unorthodox move that's sure to raise some industry eyebrows, Microsoft (developer Bungie's corporate overlord) has hired screenwriter Alex Garland (28 Days Later, The Beach) to adapt its hit videogame series Halo for the big screen.

didnt bungie say they wanted total control over a movie if it was ever made? according to this, after the script is written microsoft/bungie wont have any control over it?

"I vill make zee Halo mofie!"

Please. No.

well, he's talented. even the beach had some fascinating ideas...i'd like to read the novel one of these days. i guess halo has enough credibility and bankability to be treated better than most game to movie adaptations.

It's going to be released in two parts, ala Kill Bill.

Just when it starts to get good....roll credits!

looks pretty damn good to me.

That actually does look really fucking good; however, I still don't think it's going to translate well. It usually helps when you can see a character's mouth moving (especially the protagonist) when he or she speaks (hell, even Robocop had that). I mean, do you really want to watch some guy in a visor utter inane shit like...

"I NEED A WEAPON!"

"I NEED A WEAPON!"

"I NEED A WEAPON!"

"I'M GOING TO FINISH THIS FIGHT!"

"RAAAARRRRRRR!"

...for two hours? Oh, and just wait until you see Cortana on the big screen; I'm sure that will be really cool. And for further emphasis of the point I'm trying to make, look no further than Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Hell, the Nemesis outfit they used wasn't all that bad, but my God was that embarassing to watch as he
became a boxer there at the end
. Still pictures are one thing, but motion pictures are another...

I really wish video games and movies would stay the fuck away from each other.

The fact that MS isn't going through a studio makes me think there's a good chance this will either be a good movie or won't see the light of day. They can't afford to hurt the brand.

Then again, if its good, this will be huge IMO.

Alex Garland is a great writer, so the script should be top notch if he has some creative control. Read "The Coma". Fantastic piece of literature.

They finally removed the nipples from the batman suit for the new one coming up. lets hope they don't add them to the master chief. lol :lol

I hope this dies before it is ever in pre-production, Its sad enough Alone in the Dark is going to make it out.

Metroid isn't happening anymore, is it? I hope it dies, too.

Leave my games alone, Hollywood!

The last news I ever heard about the Metroid movie was that John Woo got the rights to it, and nothing more. No Metroid places have seen anything about it since then, either. Seems like its frozen in time. IMDB has nothing new updated since then (4/04), except

Trivia: Paris Hilton auditioned for the role of Samus. <-bizarre

unless it's at least as good as starship troppers (one of my fav movies) it shouldn't be made at all. Which I don't find very likely given the subtle sarcasm in that movie and how most people didn't get it. A great halo movie would rock though! but I would want something more than just a mindless action movie.

i hope they have these random 3 second clips of gameplay footage that appear for no reason and completely out of nowhere. that would be SWEET.

after Kill Bill, I think Uma thurman might actually fit in the role.

Where does it say they wont have control over it? It just says when the scripts done MS will sell it to studios.

I cant see it doing anything but disapointing the millions of people that have played the games but hell, we need more movies about bad-asses killing aliens.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of story he comes up with.
