Still waiting on judging, hoping to have everything done today.
There were 15 entries. Some were amusing, some were hilarious, and some were just plain awesome. I'm hoping to start doing this type of thing on HaloGAF.com more often. I still have a ton of ONI patches and a couple posters to give away, including one signed by SPARTn Sparth.
You know, a Forerunner transport vehicle might be interesting, and now I'm hoping for too much, but I think it would be cool to be able to pick up a mongoose and transport that to someone on meltdown .
Being real about this though, a Forerunner Air vehicle that could have 3-4 people (one driver) would be great.
It could have a weak cannon, like maybe similar to the Forerunner Assault Rifle weapon.
I'm calling it here and now, there will not be a single vehicle returning that we don't know about yet.
This is going to be the vehicle sandbox for Halo 4, with a grand total of 11 Vehicles:
Warthog
Gauss Warthog
Rocket Warthog
Mongoose
Scorpion
Mantis
Mammoth (not in MP, not piloteable in campaign)
Falcon (not on any of the MP maps by default, but forgeable)
Ghost
Wraith
Banshee
Halo 3 had 11 vehicles, too, however the ratio UNSC to covie was a bit better balanced.
HaloGAF Customs is back! With a special launch night on Nov 6th/7th Customs event and then regularly every Saturday each week.
Specific launch night details will be put out closer to the time.
NO FORGE MAPS - we're placing a temporary ban on Forge maps for HaloGAF Customs. Halo 4's map lineup looks pretty badass at this point (with just one left to reveal) so we'll soak it all up and leave the Forge maps for another time in future. It should take a while before the quality Forge maps actually bubble up and in the mean time we'll be playing only on solid developer maps.
EURO FOLKS - you won't be left out of the fun, we'll be running separate Euro Customs each week, slightly earlier timewise, to take advantage of our awesome geographical location.
When: Looking at the Sunday following launch. Enough time for people to play through the campaign. Time may change as we get closer.
So how about those Halo 4 Terminals? How do the Forerunner and Kilo-Five books tie into the Campaign? If you have any questions about Halo's fiction or just want to talk about the game's story join us as we co-op through the campaign and seek the answers.
When: Weekly following Halo 4's release
We've been promised an episode each week for two months, with five missions per episode that is a lot of gameplay and a lot of fiction.
ForwardUntoDawn.com will be offering a weekly summary and analysis of the fiction of Spartan Ops going beyond the story of Halo 4's campaign. As such, it offers up a chance to buddy up and tackle the Spartan Ops episodes as a group. Join us as we explore Halo's future.

I'm open to contest ideas.
I'm guessing we haven't seen every vehicle yet. Relax.
I think another paint contest would be fun, just change the topic to something else this time around. Maybe Halo 2 MP or designing new armor or something.
A HaloGAF weekly update/recap could be fun. Recap and discuss the previous week's news, topics, notable moments/discoveries, etc... Good opportunity for sites like THC, FUD etc to get some content in. Include HaloGAF podcasts as they're released.

Just an idea: what if the largest forge canvas has two Mammoths for use? They can't be spawned or deleted, just moved around. The map's default layout is sandy/rocky and roughly resembles a larger Sandtrap.
"Halo 4 returns players to the story of the Master Chief and Cortana in the events that follow the conclusion of Halo 3. Players will experience an all new story and introduce a new roster of enemies and weapons to the Halo experience. Set against the top secret Forerunner planetoid known to ONI as Sigma 7 (Also known as Requiem), players will encounter a dark new foe (
The Didact
) and unravel more of the mysteries behind the forerunners (Yep, heard this a couple of times in videos) and the Office of Naval Intelligence (One character is digging around the UNSC database and the UNSC being covered in the Karin Travis novels).
At the heart of Halo 4 is a stronger focus than ever before behind story telling and player choice. Players will be offered an unprecedented level of customization and a narrative experience never before seen in a first person shooter. On a technical level Halo 4 pushes the boundaries of the action genre by incorporating larger battlefields than ever before and players will experience conflicts that seamlessly span land, sea and space.
At the moment it seems 343 are focusing on the new and improved story and weapons system (of which the new AIM mechanic is only mysteriously alluded to -- Funny we have had a videos about story and weapons thus far) but there was some video shown that fills in some of the gaps. Halo 4 is set on a Forerunner planet that has an inner and outer surface that provides two distinct styles. The outside is very industrial and features a wide range of hostile Forerunner tech and AI (Yep, we saw that in some of the videos). The video showed space combat here. The inside of the planetoid is hollow and is sectioned off in to many tiers/bands (almost resembling Halo rings) that feature a myriad of natural environments not only resembling earth's but many other alien terrains (Yep, we have seen mostly natural enviroments and Forerunner sleek designs).
The video featured combat across a multitude of environments from space to mountains, plains and oceans (We have seen mountains and plains). [Story spoiler]
Presumably, ONI had been top secretly researching the planet for some. There are UNSC forces on the planet but they look really degraded and disorganized and it was implied that they may be divided into factions and warring with each other (One of the released videos shows a Promethean scanning a soldier, related? I think so)
. At one point we see a heavily modified warthog that has had the wheels replaced two kind of anti gravity devices.
At another point the Chief is clearly sprinting which possibly implies a return of armor abilities (Yup, they back). There was no sign of the Flood or the Covenant but at the very end of the trailer the 'dark new threat' (Earlier tag line maybe? Changed to "An Ancient Evil Awakens") was hinted at. The video ends with the Chief standing at a dark cave entrance and from within can be heard some menacing gurgling and grunting. Cortana says "They're coming back, and there's a LOT more of them this time", the Master chief then readies a new weapon that looks like a cross between a rocket launcher and a Needler (???) and it focuses on his helmet and visor and a number of strange digital effects ripple across his visor then the videos ends. (The whole strange digital effects thing is done in promotions and videos)
Nice! I really enjoyed the GAF customs, even in Reach. Glad they are coming back. And since there are no forge maps, I won't have to play stupid 2-forts!

Well, lets see. The Spectre, Prowler, and Revenant are all garbage vehicles, no loss there. The Chopper doesn't make sense given the composition of this enemy faction. The Hornet was only viable in multiplayer after a significant nerf, and consistency between single and multiplayer is something that Halo has always strived for.
Would you rather have a bloated count of kinda shitty vehicles, or a decent stable of well-balanced, well thought out vehicles?
I understand the sentiment, but really nailing the core, staple Halo vehicles is far more important than adding a bunch of fluff vehicles that nobody will ever want to use anyway.
Well, Forerunners would, but Prometheans don't, right? Do I have this right, I haven't read the novels, but
I thought Forerunner were actual humanoid things, and the Prometheans are these digital ghost things that inhabit the crawlers, watchers, knights, etc. So theoretically there could be old vehicles on Requiem that the Forerunners used? Or even mobile weapons platforms for the Prometheans to "drive" that can be taken over?
Yeah, I'd say it's pretty crappy. A mortar whose visual feedback tells a completely separate story from the amount of damage it does? Shitty physics impulses on every shot that take control from its targets? It's basically the Concussion Rifle of vehicles. The ability to splatter people by turning while stationary or barely moving? A gamebreaking autoaim glitch? It's certainly not as bad as the Spectre or Prowler, and I'm not saying it's useless by any means, but given a choice to axe it or keep it, I'd vote for the guillotine any day.
I don't mind the lack of the Revenant, Chopper or Hornet nearly as much as the lack of new Forerunner vehicles. How could something so obvious be left to the wayside? It's not like 343 didn't have nearly 3 years to work on this game. Granted, Knights can teleport so vehicles may be redundant, but I don't give a damn. I want some morphing transformer inspired vehicles damnit.
Here's hoping the Didact still has the War Sphinx to roll out...
I was thinking a forerunner vehicle would be like Tron, you grab the handles and the mothafuckin' thing morphs around you. And it explodes into lovely space confetti like the Forerunner weapons do to Spartans

HaloGAF customs'll be something to look forward to for the first time since the Halo 3 days, finally.
I played one game of Reach last night after almost three weeks away and 10+ hours of Halo 4 and I couldn't muster it, I had to quit out mid-match. Never playing it again and you can take that to the bank.

That autoaim glitch is so broken. You can no scope while just sitting still in the passenger seat. Why is there any autoaim at all when you're in a vehicle is beyond me.
