Halo |OT10| The Calm Before The Storm

So the Dew and Doritos thing is for Americans only, right? No Canada?

I could make some very, very dirty jokes about this but instead I'm going to take the high road and say you're the master of hinting at things. Don't worry about what some of these petty people here say. They're chiefly negative.

Brilliant.

Random spawns + instant spawns are going to lead to a lot of really shitty experiences for players. Oh, I'll just go back to my base to pickup the Mantis which I know should be spawning sometime soon. WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY DOING HERE?!

Having teams spawn all over the map (at both bases, out in the middle, etc.) is bullshit I expect in a COD experience or FFA playlist - not in fucking Big Team.

That's what the majority of Halo is now. Tons of players instantly spawning with random power weapons dropping next to them and around the map and vehicles everywhere. If you a want a focused team experience that isn't a clusterfuck, you can play one gametype in one playlist on one of the three maps that might be suitable for "small" team play.

But hey, zombies look like flood now and you can throw the grifball.

Grifball is obviously the new Balanced team play

all i can do is watch that gameplay and shake my damn head. it's like fucking call of duty with how the game is absolutely dominated by the power weapons you call in from your killstreaks.

I don't get that. Yeah, you call in stuff, but you aren't calling in rockets and snipers. It's shotguns and needlers. Powerful, yes, but not crazy.

I think it looks decently fun. They'll have non-Infinity slayer for those that dislike it.

what gameplay are you guys talking about?

Infinity slayer

And then it gets clipped from the hopper because the casuals dont wanna play it. and we are stuck with customs.

Well guys I couldn't find a single can of the illusive drink we call Game Fuel today. I will continue my search tomorrow, but jeez why is it so hard to find this stuff :'(

The sarcasm on this thread, arg. Not only is it the lowest form of wit, but it's even less clear in writing. Say what you mean.

What I mean is that Halo has always been enjoyed by the majority of players as a 4v4 or 2v2 team experience at its core. Controlled pacing and pretictable gameplay is what people expect and enjoy about Halo. So when they focus the majority of their attention on Big Team and throwing all predictability out the window in addition to relegating 4v4 to one fringe playlist, completely eliminating 2v2 and having every map be gigantic it's frustrating as a long-time fan.

I understand that a lot of GAF has a boner for big team, but generally speaking, smaller playercount has usually been where Halo shined.

du literally just called in a sniper rifle

Hmm, must have missed the sniper on the list. Well, it's not instant-win. I get where the dislike comes from, I just like the option to play Infinity as I think it looks a bit more dynamic than Halo has been in the past.

EDIT: Where did they say 4v4 is one playlist? I don't think Big Team is going to make up 75% of Halo 4. There will still be 4v4 and 5v5 playlists. Also, people played double team?

What the hell is...

Wait. Agreed.

Let's hope 343 doesn't use that logic to end our party time again.

Infinity Slayer is what I plan on playing first.

I don't think I'll enjoy it, but I'm going to go into it with an open mind. Even if I don't like it, this is what Halo is now.

slayer pro haven is going to be incredible

yeah really looking forward to that before I get sick of it because it's the only thing I'll be able to play

i have no problem with big team in general, it's fine. squad battle was one of my favorite playlists in halo 3. my problem is the shift in primary focus from 4v4 team oriented play to 5v5 "YOU get a power weapon and YOU get a power weapon and YOU get a wraith AND a power weapon" oriented play.

I wonder if the playlist split will be splitting HaloGAF parties playing Halo 4.

I know i'm not touching Slayer Pro (might play it occasionally but Infinity Slayer is exactly what i want from deathmatch). And i'm not so keen on playing other gametypes either, other than iSlayer and Dominion (assuming it plays well and is as fun as it looks).

I had a bunch of my buddies watch that new Making Of Mulitplayer BTS. They see loadouts, join in progress, ordnance, sprint, hitmarkers and grenade indicators and they all immediately say, "oh, like Call of Duty". Take that for what it is, but people can't say with a straight face that Halo isn't trying to attract that CoD audience by adopting so many of their mechanics and systems.

"Infinity Slayer is the new traditional Halo" wasn't a sarcastic statement. It's the main gametype of Halo 4.

Still incredibly surprised that regular 4v4 Team Slayer didn't get its own playlist. Although I guess Slayer Pro is close.

In other news, going to head out today in search of a Halo 4 controller and Mountain Dew. Although I am sad that there's no gamefuel within 50 miles lol.

This is a post of you I can agree with.

Also the trailer with Revival as music is even better, nice.

Unfortunately I think Infinity Slayer may end up being more broken than Reach, just in a different way.

One team gets a bit of a lead and calls in personal ordnance. Before you know it the entirety of the other team has shotguns and sniper rifles and are locking down an advantageous position on the map. Oh yeah and they can see you through walls now so there's no way to sneak up on them.

Also, they don't get scoped out of their sniper rifles when you shoot them making sniping easier than ever... And they instantly respawn on their teammates when you do happen to kill them and just pick up their power weapons again.

I really think that so many lopsided matches will occur because of these factors.

Thank god Slayer Pro exists in matchmaking. Although I think they will have to remove instant respawn and remove random drops and just make static weapon spawns.

Simple solution: Never be on the losing team.

Depends. Do we have truly random spawns or side-locked spawns or what?
Completly random makes locking down map impossible.
Do note that randoms-vs-randoms games will work fine, as there won't be advanced tactics in play. And most likely majority of games will be that.

Parties vs parties on the other hand... wonder how that will work...

Infinity slayer will be a broken mess when released from the confines of 343 playtests and convention center lans. Of that there is no doubt.

They do test balance at 343, you know.
