Campaign Spoilers.

Added my comments below your questions :)

1. The Librarian changed his DNA to be a human/Forerunner hybrid
2. I guess we don't really "know". I think the humans killed were digitized to be used as Promethean Knights. Kind of fucked up to think that a human consciousness is trapped inside one of those things.
3. I don't think she is. There has to be more to the whole splitting herself plot than just to screw up Didact's shields.
4. Covies think he's god.

Thanks for your response, guys!

One more question:

Do we know if that covenant is a united force or if it's just a rogue religious group? Example: Is this the same group of elites that helped the humans in Halo 3? I mean it's not out of the ordinary that a war with an old enemy reignites a few years later.

Same. None of them seem to work for me and I've played a bunch of MP.
You have to have completed at least one, if not all, of the SpOps missions for the first few to work, I think.

This group is a faction called Storm. Not real sure what their intention is or why they split from the rest of the Covenant (I haven't watched any of the Terminals, so I don't know if anything further is revealed about them), but I get the sense from SpOps that the humans hate them all again, regardless of faction.

Hmm... I think the prerequisite for 5 might be wrong. I've found all seven terms - Waypoint even THINKS I've found all 7 terms. (I realize those are sometimes different things. :) ) But I got the 'you have not completed the prerequisites for this' message when I put in that last code.

Similarly, I haven't found all of the terminals yet and was able to unlock the helmet just fine. I've got it in game and everything.

I think most of the problems stem from actually getting owned in a Halo game.
I guess some people just cant take the fact that they were really not that good to begin with especially if they were coming off of Reach (like Antitype). Cant really say I will miss these people.

The gunplay in this game is amazing and reminiscent of Halo 2. I wish people would stop the bitching and actually get good at a game. Yes Black Ops will steal people.. the same people that break controllers because they cant kill their opponent in 1 shot and then blame the game because they suck.

It really does feel a lot like Halo 2.

Good couple games with Exwife, and Biggie last night; apparently Havok joined me at some point and I totally didn't realize it (UI lol?), then promptly left him.

I'm a jerk :(

Sounds reasonable lol. Thanks for the reply!

Do know if they are going to add Forge maps to the rotation at some point? I don't hate any of the maps in the rotation but I love having more options.

So glad they are doing weekly MM updates. And hopefully we get doubles after the map pack in Dec at the latest lol

Depends on if it's actual weekly updates that react to the playerbase / found exploits and not just parceling out of pre-built playlists and updates that would have happened once a month.

The question is if it's actually rolling weekly updates (ie the weekly update contains what's been approved or cert'd up to that point), or if the months' updates are all run through testing at once then deployed weekly.

If it's actual rolling weekly updates, then sure. If it's just a different method of deployment, you're still waiting a month for fixes.

Have just enough time to make one more quick post.

To be perfectly and absolutely clear on one thing: I do not dislike Halo 4. I don't. I think Halo 4 is boring. Making a videogame is very hard. It's never as simple as "they need to fix this" or "they need to overhaul that." For a first try 343 took some risks and put in a good effort, and it shows.

I feel a bit heartbroken and frustrated that I don't like the game more.

I've been thinking about your first point today. Here's my take on it.

She changed his DNA, yes, in a way I think similar to how the Didact changed Bornstellar. She basically mentored the Chief's mutation, because as a 'first-form', there was no beating a badass ancient Forerunner. It would show how similar Forerunners and Humans ultimately are. So, I think the Chief now has some Lifeworker imprints in him, which might help him understand the mantle better. It might also herald the Librarian being a 'replacement' for Cortana, though of that I'm pretty doubtful.

Anyway.

I wonder how many of the issues stem from "Not Invented Here" syndrome.

The gameplay wasn't exceptional (although I still liked fighting the Prometheans quite a bit) but the dialogue/story is what made the campaign for me. It's had mixed reception here, but I absolutely loved that facet of the campaign.

The game is essentially in beta right now. Massive, public, beta. Which is why we're finding things like the hollow rocks on Ragnarok. They should treat the first month as basically a beta and push out updates on a weekly basis.

---

Now that everyone has their "preferred" armor abilities unlocked matchmaking became a lot less fun. That first two days when everyone had sprint... and not much else was seen in a game was a lot more enjoyable. Now it feels like a cluster of random shit thrown together without any attempt at balance.

Hrm. Spent a little time looking at the deeper Wargames stats.

Game says I have 4 DNFs. Looks like when you finish a game and drop back out to the lobby, the next game is counted as a DNF - huh? (I dropped out of the postgame literally 5-10 seconds after getting to the first postgame screen each time.)

There's one DNF that makes no sense to me, though: in my game history, it says "Score 85, Captures 0, DNF" with the arrows. Click the arrows, and you can see the full game stats - my score was 295, and I DEFINITELY finished.

I guess the bugs are still being worked out.

Still don't like the DNFs for getting out of a game before it starts. :(

If you like the Art of Halo 4, you should go the CGHUB today. There are tons of Halo 4 art to see! (Look at Editor's pick)

The Waypoint kids have found some more of the unlock codes:

They're spread across a 150 page thread on waypoint, so I made a quick guide.

Glyphs.png

1 - 500XP and SPEC/Raider Shoulder Armour [Prerequisite: Complete Spartan Ops Mission 1]
2 - 500XP and Spec/Raider Torso Armour [Prerequisite: Complete Spartan Ops Mission 2]
3 - 5000XP a Concept Art Gallery and ONI Emblem [Prerequisite: Complete Spartan Ops Mission 3]
4 - 2000XP a Concept Art Gallery and Wiseguy Emblem [Prerequisite: Enlist in Infinity Multiplayer]
5 - 500 XP and SPEC/Raider Helmet [Prerequisite: Find the Seven campaign Terminals]

You can enter the codes either through the console Waypoint App or on the Waypoint site here.
The last code does not need all terminals. I have only 4 of 7 and was able to unlock it.

You have to have completed at least one, if not all, of the SpOps missions for the first few to work, I think.

I do think
People misinterpret the action figures. Storm does not seem like the name of this religious group. Why are only the lowest Grunt, Elite or Jackal called as Storm Grunt etc? The other not. I think Storm means Vanguard, or better to say: The cannon fodder of the new Covenant.

My thoughts on the primaries:

OP

DMR
AR

Good

BR

Okay

Storm Rifle (at CQC)
Carbine

Why would you do this to yourself?

Light Rifle
Suppressor

Interesting. I like the Light Rifle a lot. Being a 4 shot kill, and having the secondary triple burst mode is fantastic.

Also, the AR is balanced very well IMO. There is actually a point in using it now. I love it.

Two things.

Thing One: I'm not planning to make another Community Halo thread when this one hits 20k, since in one month the Halo 4 thread(s) gets migrated into Community and we'll be right back to where we are. That said there is a pretty distinct type of discourse between the Halo 4 and Halo Community threads, so if someone wants to fire one up, feel free.

Thing Two: I'm a ways into mission #6 as of last night. And so far my thoughts closely mirror Dax's. There's a lot of good stuff here, from some of the set pieces to the encounter designs to the graphics. But they simply didn't nail the core combat. I'll try to articulate this when I get though it. But the combat ranges from interesting to boring - I never really feel engaged or connected to the combat, and that 30 seconds of fun core combat loop is just not there, at all. Which is why I'm still at mission 6.

After extensive use of the LR I've found out what makes it so... interesting.

It's the interval between each bullet is shot. It's way too long. You need to have seriously good aim to use it. But I still really like it... It's just not as good as the DMR/BR.

And one more thing... The SAW and Needler are wayyyy too OP.

I've found that I don't have to be as good of aim somehow. I seem to do much better with the Light Rifle than the DMR or BR. No idea why.

Also the Saw and Needler should be powerful, they are power weapons.

Ah... thanks. Should have guessed. Tonight, I guess. :)
If you do it co-op, the whole episode can be completed within 30 minutes. The missions are crazy short with 4 players on Heroic.

Interesting. A lot of the particular terms you use kind of flies over my head since I haven't read any of the outside-the-game fiction, but I get the gist. I kind of hope the last part doesn't happen.

The voice acting in Halo 4 is amazing. I was more impressed with that than anything else, and I really enjoyed the story that 343 is crafting.

Ah, I didn't really make the connection there. Thanks for clearing that up.

Questions regarding the ending.

- Why was the Infinity looking for chief after the nuke detonation?
- Now that he's on earth and out of armor, will he finally rank up?
- What are the odds of Cortana returning?

- guessing the unsc are so used to MC surviving no matter what happens at this point
- he will forever have the rank MC, as he should
- I honestly don't know, I sure as fuck hope so though. Halo without her would not be the same

There is hints that Cortana will pull a Pinnochio and become a real girl. The Librarian talks about digitizing themselves, and then going back into biological form. Since Cortana was already based on a living human mind being 'digitized' and then we don't know what the Librarian did when she interacted with Cortana yet, it's most like that she was upgraded to near sentience, and was simply shedding her Rampancy when she took out the Didacts shield.

Some other campaign stuff, not neccesarily story spoilers just objective stuff.

How come in the flashbacks, Master Chief is in his newest armor? I get that for being easily recognizable, but cmon. Let's see some HD Cinematic Mark IV or V.

Who the hell put manual controls for guns on the outer hull of a ship? Is that how fucked up the FUD was? It had to use so many back ups that you have to go outside and literally push the missile out? Why is that even a thing?

Why, in the mission with the mammoth, do I have to paint the gravity well with the target designator? Couldn't they just launch it in the general direction of a GRAVITY WELL and let GRAVITY take care of the rest?

Yep, "I"m a real girl" incoming for Halo 5

In other news is King of the Hill fun on any map? Because in all the matches I played in KOTH last night it was boring. And Ragnarok for King of the Hill can die in fire. With the random, all over the map, spawns at one point the opposing team had both Mantis, a Banshee, and a Ghost. Why the fuck are we playing King of the Hill with heavy vehicles?

And can you really not leave the hill once you're inside the hill and it's being contested?

Ok.. I pulled this information from the thread on Waypoint, I unlocked them and made the image above, but there was no way for me to confirm the prerequisites as I'd already met them.

Do we just think I have 4 and 5 the wrong way round? Or do none of them require you to have all the Terminals?

I only have 2 of the terminals and I could unlock every code except for the one that I mentioned.

I could see Cortana becoming a "real girl". It was interesting when Didact was talking about Cortana and how she was "advanced". He was giving her a lot of passive compliments lol. There has to be something about her that makes it possible for her to take biological form. As someone said, Halo without her isn't Halo.

She pointed it out, shes the only one ever flash cloned from a live brain. She isn't an echo of a dead brain, she's the most advanced UNSC AI, not to mention all the interaction with Forerunner systems she's had. Her experiences are as unique as the way she was made.

Chief moves his head like a RvB character when he talks. Pretty good.

I will not hear any Light Rifle trash-talking. It'll never top the DMR for me as the all-around best weapon, but if you manage the range of your encounters and quick-scope, it dominates. Not ideal in a 1v1 duel, but the next best thing to a sniper when striking unawares. I have a troll Loadout all ready to go with Light Rifle and Camo.

Are the skulls actually hidden in the game with Halo 4? I spent a lot of time exploring and some of my favorite aspects of the Halo series was exploring.

If they aren't hidden this go round, are there anything that is besides the Terminals? I found a couple artifacts and those were cool but beyond that?

Yeah. You truly know she's special. Halo Reach definitely presented that on that one level that had Sword Base in it (and Hasley).

I feel like I'm watching RvB whenever it's a cutscene. The camera cuts between a human and a spartan just feels right.
