I was hoping for something along those lines.

Seriously, for MLG to even have a playlist they should actually be hosting regular tourneys and featuring it.

At least when I helped run the Halo Reach LAN at PAX 2012, I had chairs for everyone to sit in.

This is who you'd be giving a playlist to, 343. An organization that makes Halo fans sit on the floor to watch a Halo tournament.

I'd be down to see a "Hardcore" playlist with that name. MLG is cool and all, but craft the playlist around the hardcore community, not one brand.

So are ranks not just going to be a number on Waypoint now? Are they actually going to be in game?

I don't really care about 1-50, but without even having an Arena type system, I think I'd welcome anything rank related.

Edit: I too would prefer a "hardcore" playlist vs MLG specific.

I think this one of those rare moments where hardcore players and not-so-hardcore players agree on this. It's time to stop giving a company that takes the playerbase for granted free advertisement and hand the hardcore playlist back to the hardcore community, instead of one guy at the MLG offices.

Sounds good. Let MLG do the hardcore playlist (343 wouldn't know a competitive game if something something)

I'm not sure you would either... you quit out of them before you could possibly find out... ZING!

On a serious note...

Only real complaint so far is that only the most recent match will show up in theater, where it seemed like in previous titles we could look at the past 20 games as long as we didn't load campaign or different game disc/xbox app. So far I've missed saving my first H4 game and a few good clips that were lost because the next match starts so quick and my previous films get deleted automatically.

You can still find them. Click the stick when you're in the theater lobby selecting a film and select your history. For whatever reason the Select Film listing defaults to films you've hard saved to your storage device, not your temporary history or hell, the menu to select where you want to pull films from. It works like before, but it's just buried, like so many other things in the new UI.

I'd rather they just tune up Slayer Pro with a few more forge remakes, static weapon spawns and no instant respawn.

Yup. When random ordnance doesn't get in the way the gunplay is pretty great. Needs more symmetrical arena maps, though that is probably what you meant by forge remakes.

Also, does anyone like Relay? I like it.

they are there, you just have to dig into the menu

The thing I'm starting to dislike about infinity slayer is that 3/5 of the time, I'm killed by a power weapon which I didn't even know was on the map at that time. Plus the only map I really like in the playlist is Haven. Solace is team shooting galore. If you're standing in the open for less than 3 seconds, you're being shot at from 3 directions. Complex and Abandon are campfests. Adrift can ne good sometimes but it really depends on the players you're fighting against.

All that hate's gonna burn you up, kid.
Spartan Ops seems like such a missed opportunity. We've only seen one episode but so far it's been a bunch of missions in random locations with little to no connection to each other where you press a bunch of button and in the end you just teleport into a Pelican and you fly off to the next location. This would've all been fine if the missions were actually challenging, but the infinite respawns just completely take that away so it ends up feeling more like a grind than anything. Add to that the still existing input-lag and all I see is a waste of resources that the rest of the game could've really needed.

Maybe the upcoming episodes of Spartan Ops will change my mind, we'll see.

Campaign spoilers.
It would be strange if the 'Chief' ranked up... I mean now that he's back on Earth, it would be odd for him not to be given a promotion.

He was actually promoted after Halo 3. He is now the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, which makes him the most senior enlisted man in the Navy and gives him a protocol equivalency to a vice admiral. You can see his new insignia on the Voi memorial after H3 and it's confirmed on Halopedia and Halo Nation.

It was definitely meant to be posthumous, Chief's not very suited for the office's duties- e.g. arguing with bureaucrats over enlisted pay rates.

I don't. I never played with HaloGAF too much.

It was fast and powerful, I quite liked it.
It was too glitchy. You could easily get flung into a cliffside at a million miles an hour, thrown up in the air with absolutely no chance of surviving because of the "return to battlefield" prompts, and a passenger with a sniper rifle would get instant headshots. But the biggest reason I dislike the Revenant is because it replaced one of the most beautiful vehicles Bungie ever made: The Chopper.

Yes, I'm bitter.

This. Make Slayer Pro the new Slayer Hardcore. No Radar, static weapon spawns, and put the speed back to 100%. With faster speed the sprint + jump make spartans look like a blur and feels wrong somehow.

Also, move this playlist up to the 2nd spot in the list. So the hoppers would read.

Infinity Slayer
Slayer Pro
SWAT
Infinity Big Team
....

And to think that one of their main justifications for this new ordnance system was so that everyone would know what weapons are on the map....

I can't believe some of you are saying Legendary is a "cakewalk". Heroic kicked my ass and I never had a problem with it in past games.
People's perceptions of Halo difficulty is surprisingly fluid. Personally I find Halo 2 Legendary hardest, followed by Reach (cheap bastard Elites), and then Halo CE and Halo 3 pretty even. Others think that Halo CE Legendary is the hardest. So far Halo 4 Heroic hasn't been too bad except when I strafe off a cliff.

Agreed. I don't know how this was suppose to be the Firefight mode replacement...it's really linear, there's zero challenge, and all the problems present in Halo 4's combat loop are still there, with all these ugly ass covies and bullet sponge Knights. I don't feel the urge to ever replay them are try a different approach outside farming for XP challenges.

I agree except on the 100% part. Movement needs to be faster, and I wish the strafe would also be a lot faster.

See and I didn't find Reach to be that difficult. CE and 2 were hardest for me. Interesting indeed.

Haven't got around to playing it yet (still only on mission 4 of the campaign, and at SR-17, work sucks), but I posted these exact fears about a week ago. That's exactly what I didn't want it to be.

dumb idea from the moment they announced it. nobody wants 5 minutes of gimped firefight with 2 seconds of insignificant story beats in between. should've scrapped it, brought back firefight and built proper forge mode instead.

There's certainly room for improvement, no doubt about it. I would absolutely love to see these missions have a limited life scenario, where you could gain lives by staying alive up to certain checkpoint. I'd also love to see scoring implemented and the difficulty scaled to the amount of players in the mission.

However, I'm not sure what you and Over are expecting; almost every Halo mission ever has been a linear progression that ends in a button push of some sort before moving on to the next linear progression and button push, etc. I certainly didn't expect to be wowed by some spectacularly involved story that perfectly combined the campaign and ODST's Firefight, but to a lesser extent, that's what we're getting. The trouble is, it's combining Reach's Firefight with a campaign, which at the moment isn't as fun as I'd hope it would be with 3 other people.

I want this mode to succeed, because I can see the potential and I'm on board with it. Solo Legendary is almost more fun than the campaign so far, but again that isn't supposed to be SpOp's intent. I hope that the more regular updates that are going to affect matchmaking can be mirrored with Spartan Ops beyond just adding new episodes.

Interesting to see the SpOps hate. I think it's a much better idea than Firefight. Throw a bit of story into 5 weekly missions. Gives you something new to play every week.

They could have kept firefight, but firefight was stale to me. Sounds like SpOps could use some tweaking and more objectives, but at least I'm interested in it.

Only firefight I ever played in Reach was by myself to do challenges.

To me, with the inclusion of universal sprint, all the Spartans look like they're moving... too fast. On 110% it simply looks unnatural, to me. To my eyes this is the same visual awkwardness that made Reach Anniversary and Classic look like player models were figure skating or gliding along. I would sacrifice the slight speed bump in order to have visuals that look more natural and/or accurate.

Factor in smaller, balanced, maps and there won't ever be a lack of action going on (essential for E Sports consumers). I understand this doesn't address the strafe issue you bring up, but I'm not sure the 110% movement speed really allows for what you're looking for anyway.

---

Spartan Ops could be improved with allowing players to "vote" on difficulty. Heroic is a bit of a joke with 4 players (even if only 2 are competent).

can someone explain the white "flashes" to me? they only happen when you turn the camera around quickly, but they got more frequent recently (in campaign, spartan-ops and multiplayer). it looks like some textures fail to load fast enough and it displays a white area until the texture loads in (which only takes a fraction of a second, but since it flashes bright white its really annoying to me).

SpOps is much better than firefight. After playing a single match of FF you could memorize the routes enemies take for the map, and it's always the same routes, enemies, and tactics. Per SpOps mission you can still memorize each mission if you feel like replaying them, but otherwise it revolves around making interesting encounter designs, as opposed to just throwing AI at you in a set arena, and bridging them with some sort of story, and you get more encounters every week instead of the same things. FF was stale in ODST and Reach after the first week alone.

I was hoping (and I'm still hoping for) for missions that cater to a specific type of gameplay. Have a training course level, a sniper level, a stealth level, a race level, a firefight level, an air vehicle level, that kind of stuff. It's still possible to a certain extend but loadouts hinder this kind of stuff. The levels that we've seen so far don't bode that well for the future missions either because so far we've just been thrown into an area, had to kill some dudes, go to a waypoint, press a button, move to the next area and kill more dudes until a Pelican pick you up. Only variation being that there's vehicles thrown into the mix every now and then.

We also just played 4-player co-op - which is the point of Spartan Ops - on Legendary and we just blasted through the last level in a few minutes without much resistance and only a few deaths. That was with me just trying to get out of the map we weren't even fighting at full strength. Maybe it was the level, but it looks like it's just way too easy to complete a level. I personally enjoyed it more when playing with less players or even on my own, but even then the infinite respawns take away any kind of challenge.

In the end I wish it was more like Call of Duty's Spec Ops where missions are focused much more on one specific type of play and it's really challenging just to complete missions, let alone doing so with a good score. It's more arcedey which I like too.

I would much rather have 343 do a competitive playlist than MLG. I think a lot of people would see MLG and just not even play it. Call it Competitive Slayer or some shit.

Anyone else rocking the glorious Fishstick control scheme? It's made my sniping skills so much better than when I used recon.

Sprint on Thumb stick and zoom on left trigger is god like.

Also Legecy controls ftw.

I haven't played Spartan Ops yet, but this is what I was hoping for all along. A much more focused and specific style of gameplay with a story and environment that helped cater to that. Bummer. Maybe lessons for upcoming episodes? Maybe a season 2 with more like this?

I enjoyed ODST firefight because it was a challenge and it felt like a survival mode. Reach firefight just turned into a game of credit and score.

So far I'm enjoying Spartan Ops, but I think being able to tweak (like Firefight) each mission would be interesting so players have the option to make the experience feel like a survival mode. I would love that.

The AI lets you get a way with a lot of shit. They don't like to pursue you when your shields are down except for the scattershot prometheans. They also don't do a lot of damage unless a couple of them are shooting at you all at once.

You just have to watch out for the binary rifle, any power weapons, camo sword elites, and shield strippers. The game always provides a power weapon or vehicles for the big targets, so you don't even have to worry about them. A methodical approach always wins the day.
