So, off topic, but Bioshock 2 for 800pts or Alan Wake AN for 600pts? I have 800 to burn and they are both on sale.. (Well, Bioshock 2 is still showing up as 1600pts for me, so I may not have much of a choice)

So, where are the gifs from this trailer? There were definitely a few moments that would have been great. Too bad the trailer wasn't anything special, but at least it wasn't bad. Still, Halo 4's marketing has been rather tame IMO.

Wait, there's allegedly no campaign scoring and no campaign theater?

From least to most, my personal incentives to replay the campaign are broken down into seven parts:

1) Story
2) Clips/Screenshots
3) Encounters
4) Co-op
5) Exploration/Easter Eggs
6) Tackling Different Difficulties
7) Scoring/Medals (For Challenges)

To remove the biggest incentive to replay the campaign is disheartening. Until I hear it from the horse's mouth, I won't believe it.

If there had to be a feature to cut, cutting campaign theater makes the most sense as only a small percentage of the community used it. That doesn't mean it should have been cut. The community has an expectation of feature parity established during the Bungie days. If feature parity was not a goal for 343, it should have been said long before launch.

What of Spartan Ops replacing campaign scoring essentially? There will most likely be more room for future "scoring type features" through SPOPS so I wouldn't get too down about campaign scoring (if it's indeed not in).

Assuming all this stuff is true, I'll miss campaign scoring a lot more than campaign theater. I really hope Spartan Ops has scoring, at least...
 
I'm sorry but you'd be guessing very wrong.

Considering the Reach engine they were handed I'd say it's more right than wrong mate. You have to remember they weren't going to recode Reach TU from the ground up nor can CE just be ported over to online play either.

I would never pretend to say 343i Reach TU & maps are the CE of today but I think that's the mantra they were going for.

I sincerely hope that they continue to support SpOps. Multiple seasons would be awesome. It's my biggest draw to the game besides legendary co-op campaign. I'll play plenty of wargames, but It's not the main reason I'm getting it.

1) I won't have an absolute way of knowing if an enemy is dead. Campaign scoring informed me that an enemy is 100 percent dead. Incredibly useful for long-range encounters.

2) It removes my favorite challenge: Get X amount of score on Y level. These were fantastic because they transformed the campaign into an arcade-style shooter. Instead of randomly killing enemies, I would group them together for multi-kills and pick them off with headshots for extra points. I could still do that, but I won't be equally rewarded for my efforts as in past games.

3) It removes the competitive aspect of co-op campaign. I loved stealing my teammates' kills to get a higher score. I'll miss that.

You play only 3 levels/stages then you play the same 3 leves all over again 2 more times, the voice acting and the videos save that poor arcade, there is a Horde mode and a good hoodie for your avatar.

Just more of the same, Minerva's DLC made me cry, that plot twist.

I don't think I play without scoring in any of my campaign playthroughs (except the first time) for these reasons. I guess hitmarkers will help with the first point though.

I wonder how no campaign scoring affects the Campaign challenges.

343 doesn't care about the competitive campaign community.



Campaign scoring I really don't care about, its the theater mode news that really sucked.

Yes I am aware of XBConnect, XBLink and others too. You're ignoring how crap that gameplay is online using those sytems, especially if you're not in the same US state as the host or dare I say it an international player on US host etc.

They remade the maps, they even brought back the 3sk pistol. At the end of the day with the engine and resources for a free Reach TU it was the learning curve and test bed for 343i. It was also in the anniversary playlists/maps as close to CE they could make at the time without redeveloping a new CE engine from scratch.

I stand by what I said and I think you're just going to nit pick down to it was the same exact pistol of CE or the Plasma Rifle was missing the stun effect etc.

They made what they could rapidly with the engine of today, simple and just as I said they basically did give us CE online with Reach TU Anniversary.

Never noticed that before and got a good chuckle from it.

Also, Halo 3 still has a great ending.

Dude you're trying to argue that Reach feels anything like Halo 1. So what if it's a 3sk? That makes no difference as the weapons are like night and day. XBC online wasn't crap, especially if the host had a good connection. There's no argument here, I see what you're trying to make as your point that Reach Anniversary is the closest Reach can get to Halo 1 without recoding, but what I'm saying is what you originally said (not what you changing to) was wrong.

Not to mention you initially said "what I'm guessing is pretty damned close to CE online as possible" <---This right here, wrong and you admit a lack knowledge on the matter. CE online was CE online. CE on Xbox LIVE would've just been like it was on XBC except with better connections obviously.

How is this eluding you?

Know what's funny? CE gameplay on XBC was way more consistent online than Halo 2 and Halo 3 lol ..and arguably Reach

There is nothing they could've done to make it feel any more than a hacked on version of Reach, and that's what it is in the end. What makes it close to CE? That the pistol is strong and some maps were remade but everything else feels like Reach? Get outta here. Movement's different, vehicles are different, melee's different, aim assists are different, weapons are different, grenade behaviour is different.

As someone who loves CE and would play the shit out of it online if they gave some current method to do so (like if they remade it for CEA), I haven't touched much of Reach's, because it's still Reach. A nostalgic map pack and a Reach pistol with bloom and damage tweaked isn't an equivalent to CE online. Not even close.

I can understand the nuances of the original statement you're calling me on. However I think with replies we understand each others perspective just fine.

Fact is it wasn't good enough and the CE engine is nowhere near the netcode quality of Reach. Halo 3 isn't even close to it either due to a lack of hitscan.

So you have a solid experience with XBC, great for you. However being in Australia I can tell you CE online via XBC vs. Reach TU ANN. online is a no brainer for me. I know which one I prefer for a quality game experience.

Sure I loved CE and the differences it retains over TU ANN. but it's just not going to happen. Look at what 343i did and look at the community response....

No wonder they've gone with Halo 4 in their own vision. I'm glad for that at least.

Simulate CE in Reach my ass. They better not pull this shit with another remake. If they are going to do it, atleast be upfront and say it will fit Halo 4's gameplay.

Perhaps they could do a CE multiplayer remake from the ground up but I'd doubt it would even play as people remember from LAN vs. online multiplayer.

Saber Interactive did Halo CEA.
343 Industries was well into Halo 4's development by that time.
They said Halo 4 was being developer for 3 years. CEA was released last year.
