Well in first line he tests these settings with the people who compete for money on them.
Multiple loadout would just be super stupid in Throwdown, thank god he decided for Single BR, like every pro player pushed him to do.

The new weapons? Huh Sword, Scattershot, Needler, Concussion Rifle, Boltshots etc on different maps, he tried the SAW

Yes the sprint thing is weird. Many people showed him the maps he was concerned about without sprint, with higher movement speed, he said he thought it was too floaty.

there should be less "he" and more "the community".

Could you ruminate on that mechanic? I don't seem to remember that at all.

They decided to create three Killstreaks classes called Strike packages

Assault , Support and Specialist.

While Assault and Specialist streaks are lost when you get killed like the old traditional COD style, Support was planning for players who couldnt kill more than 3 enemies in a row allowing them to get kill streaks even if they are killed until they reached they last kill streak.

Support was designed to counter the old fashioned Airstreaks summoned by the Assault so inmediately most of the team switchs to Support to get anti Air Killstreaks, store the EMP killstreak then wait for the Assaults to summons more, the Assaults then try to switch to Specialist and die miserabily to they switch to Support and the match got stalemate full of supports; Then few of them switch to Assault and try to get more killstreaks that are completely destroyed by supports EMPs and anti air turrets.

So how do you deal with this? get most of the team use the support classes, store the assault killstreaks, wait for the support to use UAV, Counter UAV and EMP to prevent the enemies supports to use theirs air streaks. This is were the real nightmare begins, Assaults launchs theirs killstreak in order to prevent being full of Air units and coordinate with the rest of their support team to launch more EMP.

Fuck this game.

The concept of thes three Strikes were completely scrapped for Black Ops 2.

Well like I said, except for the sprint thing, he tests things with the people who will play them the most.

It is not only Ninja or so.

Much like 343, they need to be doing community wide playing and testing and feedback and coming to a final configuration, instead of top-downing it all the time and hoping for the best, when they have all the ability to do the community-wide testing.

Well you can message him this weekend and he will invite people for V5 testings. And I don't trust the general community. The general community plays Infinity.

All the Halo players that bought up every CoD and their DLC helped contribute to the demise of Halo. I played CoD 2 and CoD4 then never played another one. I'll probably get Titanfall because that is the next logical step for that type of game, from World War 2, to Modern Warfare, and now Sci-Fi with Mechs. All the filler releases in-between was just milking the cash cow.

I know I am full of shit, but I do think that if Halo players stuck to Halo and didn't inflate the sales and player count numbers of CoD that maybe Halo would resemble more of what we expect out of the series.

Then my mind rests easy. I've played no more than thirty minutes of CoD between the first and fourth entries. It wasn't even on my XBL account proper in the latter instance.

You guys are missing out. Cod 4, MW2, MW3 were great. Never liked Treyarchs games for some reason.

But to dismiss all Cods after 4 is fucking dumb. There's a reason they outperform Halo and have done for some time.

It's always been a little badge of pride for me that I only have CoD2 and Modern Warfare on my achievements list, all the other CoDs are no where to be found. Modern Warfare could have just been a platform for long term sustain, Expansions and DLC releases. That's essentially what all the new CoDs are, but because of the console paradigm, you have to come out with a new $60 product to maximize sales and playerbase. It's not like PC where you can build a great foundation then support it for 5+ years.

Congrats on member status btw, never really said welcome either. So, glad to have you, need some quality new members in HaloGAF.

Black Ops 2 is pretty solid, at least in terms of advancing the series. Live streaming, the Pick 10 system, competitive ranks and leagues, etc. Campaign got significant improvements as well, and is comparable to 4.

The spectator mode is great, I wish it had an option to skip bots when cycling through players and had an option to auto-rotate.

Being proud of not having Cod games on your achievements list is one of the fucking saddest things Ive ever seen on here.

I always thought it was hilarious that people that played that game every moment of the day had less gamerscore than me in 4 because all of it's achievements were in campaign.

Get shit on, I sold CoD4 and went back to Shadowrun. Year after year I saw that CoD was the same and getting worse, so I didn't support the garbage. Everyone else did, look where console FPS is at now, it's fucking terrible. I miss the days when a ton of awesome shooters were on console. Now even Halo isn't safe from the CoD disease.

That's the primary barrier of entry to me for CoD. I don't like yearly obsolescence. I cut my teeth on CS and Halo and they traditionally have had long legs in the community. Granted, CoD has its community, but the games have never really appealed to me and I just don't like short term lifecycles for multiplayer games, even if they run in conjunction with their peers.

Thanks. Feels like I've been a Junior forever even though I've only been on the site for a few months. I got lucky on the registration thing, I think it took less than a week to get accepted. A friend of mine was in limbo for months.

I might try Black Ops II when I get my new PC. Easily the most interested I've been in Call of Duty. I like a lot of the multiplayer and single player design choices they tried out in theory. In practice? I guess I'll have to find out for myself.

Spectator Mode was a HUGE improvement in Black Ops 2, the first one in BO was pretty inferior compared to Halo but now the difference is abismal.

I admitted that I was full of shit, but compare the FPS diversity of the past to the last 4 or so years, it's pretty sad. I still remember the glory days of pre Halo 2 XBL when I had Crimson Skies, Counter-Strike, Unreal Championship, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Soldier of Fortune 2 and Pandora Tomorrow in a constant rotation. Bunch of PC FPS ports that weren't dumbed down for consoles, and then Crimson Skies and Pandora Tomorrow for some awesome unique experiences.

Now every MP game is trying to copy CoD's perk and unlock progression system, if it's a shooter, it pretty much looks and plays like CoD. It's sad, and Halo 4 comes out following the shit stain of CoD and fails miserably. I Praise the Sun that Shadowrun came out this gen, otherwise I probably would have stopped playing FPS on 360.

I don't know, Call of Duty 2 really kicked off the gen for me. Didn't buy the shitty CoD3, but CoD4:MW was a solid game, maybe one of the best this gen. I alternated playing it with Halo 3. After Gears 2 flopped, I played World at War and then Modern Warfare 2 the year after. By then, I was ultimately done with Call of Duty and where they were taking the series. Modern Warfare 2 and their dumb perks, killstreaks, care package stuff and general player base was enough. Never bought another game after that.

TitanFall is also a day one buy for me. I hate ADS but I'm actually more excited for TitanFall than Destiny right now, maybe because Bungie hasn't shown how multiplayer is.

I actually think the competition is a good thing. The problem is, rather than take what others are doing and using them to improve your own game, people usually go for the route of least resistance and just outright copy without bothering to see how it'll work in their game. Why are there more Halo fans probably playing BlOps II as opposed to Halo 4.

343 needs to say, how can we make Halo, a better Halo as opposed to how can we make Halo, a call of duty.

Y'all should buy the recently released Serious Sam collection on 360 and help fund Serious Sam 4

Hello everyone in halogaf. I have recently been accepted to the neogaf community and I started participating in the halo community late last year. I have been constantly reading this thread and the other halo thread and I have the same concerns about the future of the halo franchise as you guys even though halo 4 is technically my first halo game.

I'm in the same boat, Halo 4 is my first online Halo

Im with you on this to a degree. When Halo started becoming popular, things like 2 weapon limit and regenerating health (shields) became increasingly popular across the board. Thats because Halo was the shooter king at the time.

Now Cod is the king so people are copying it. Shame Halo started following instead of leading like it always had in the past.

And Shadowrun was awesome when it came out. So fresh and different from everything else at the time.

There's more shooter diversity on the PC, regardless of who's leading the genre. One of the major reasons I'm switching. The only console shooter I have any interest in now is Destiny. But that's a big one for me.

Halo never had a problem with sales, so why 343 felt the need to copy CoD is beyond me.

Call of Duty 4 and World at War were selling a ton when they first came but Halo 3 was still the bigger game and more played game despite those coming after it. It wasn't until Reach changed the way Halo played that the series began to lose players.

I feel bad for every Halo player that wasn't able to experience at least Halo 2 in its prime. It is strange to me to think that Halo 4 is your first online Halo experience. It is an entirely different tone and style of Halo compared to Halo 2 matchmaking.

I am deeply sorry.

HALO 2 IN ITS PRIME IS THE BEST HALO AND I KNOW WE'RE ABOUT TO GET IN THIS CONVERSATION FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME BUT FRACAS IS WRONG AND HALO 3 SUCKED WAY HARDER OK THX

I did play a fair amount of Halo 2 couch multiplayer with friends, at least! Probably 20+ hours? It was our weekend game for a while, but we had no online. Great times regardless. One of my fondest memories is doing all the super jumps on Headlong.
(gimme fuel gimme fire)

Only other Halo multiplayer I've played is a very small amount of Halo 3 at their house and a bit of Reach one weekend when I stumbled upon a 48 hr gold trial code a few months ago. :\

Halo 2 online was, and still is the GOAT Halo online multiplayer.

Truefacts

Well, I did have a ton of fun with Halo 2 online, but Halo 1 XBC with a sub 75 ping is amazing. Being on the west coast made it hard to find Halo 1 XBC lobbies with below 125 ping, so I just stuck with Halo 2 XBL for the most part.

MLG Midship FFA's and 4v4's, goofy customs filled with glitching out of maps or fun gametypes. Stomping noobs in Matchmaking, resetting your Xbox when you didn't hear your disc spin because modders took over DLC, Big team on Terminal, Relic and Headlong, Zombies on Foundation. So many good memories on Halo 2, even though it was bad Halo compared to the glorious specimen that is Halo CE, at least it was still a fucking Halo game.

When I was in high school, there were several opportunities throughout the year where myself and my friends would LAN Halo. We played a mix of Halo 2 and 3. Our favorites were Midship Slayer, Last Resort 1 Flag, and anything on The Pit. We played for hours at a time, talking about random shit the whole time. It was amazing. Simple Halo is best. Just a BR, some strafing, and a quick trigger finger. It's all we needed to have a blast.

People who claim Halo 3 was the GOAT are bad people. The same kinda people who come to your house for a party and piss on the floor and don't clean it up. Bad people.

If someone pisses on my floor it means they are extremely drunk or complete assholes. I don't want them to try and clean it up either way, they need to get the fuck out of my house.

Everyone should be able to drunkenly stumble outside to take a piss in the grass. Otherwise, I don't want to know you.

It wasn't the best at anything, but its still the most well-rounded Halo game in my book (especially if you include ODST as part of the Halo 3 package).

This.

Me and my friends would come home from school and play Halo 2. Customs or Team Slayer if there was only 4 of us. Half the time we would nearly fill up a custom lobby and just shoot the shit for hours. Rocking custom games doing superjumps and glitching out of maps. Or doing unlimited respawn Tower of Power on Ascension.

Halo 2 had perfect mix of competitive and fun social settings.

ODST was 60 bucks, it should have been 40. Sure, if you lump all of ODST and Halo 3 together for 60 bucks total, that is a very complete Halo package. Halo 3 is far worse than Halo 2 on a gameplay standpoint, and ODST was sold at 60 bucks to fill contractual obligations to Microsoft.

I wonder sometimes if Halo 3 is as bad as I think it is because I played the Shadowrun demo during the beta, and the full SR game during the retail release, or if it is actually that bad of a Halo game. I would rather play Reach than Halo 3, so I think it is the latter.
