Halo |OT4| Trust's a Tough Thing to Come by These Days

I don't understand, Frank said that the modifications weren't really perks in the traditional sense, these things sound exactly like perks.

Regen wasn't awful in Halo 3, at least IMO. I imagine it should work something like that, though it will be interesting to see how it will play out with non limited use.
Go play a Team Slayer game of Isolation and see how stupidly fast Regen spawns, and tell everybody how fun it is.

I keep thinking about that 1 flag game on boardwalk with the drop shields.

You can just tell all of that bullcrap is going to happen all over again

I just realized how often people are going to be have full teams of hardlight shields, and just run around the map...

fuck

Forgot, we'll also get people throwing down those shields around ordinance and camping it with shotguns while camo-ing/sprinting sword guy covers entrances.

That's the thing, when you decide to add in a lot of variables. The amount of potential trolling and exploitation doesn't factor in multiplayer design nearly as much as it should nowadays.

That depends on MLG, since the game isn't on the circuit then the settings are at a standstill. Since Killa KC runs it and is paid to do games on the circuit it won't continue. This isn't a knock on him btw, it makes sense. So with that APK (a pretty known Forger) contacted him to see if we could do testing if it does come back for MLG Raleigh so it isn't a scramble to find settings like they did with Columbus.

A bunch of us are going to be working on settings at the launch of Halo 4 to get something the community likes for competitive players, we don't want to become MLG v2/we aren't doing tourneys, we just want whats best at heart for our respective community with passion, care, and feedback as a whole.
Sounds sweet. Hopefully Frank's watching and can organise some way in which you lot could tweak things for launch.

Also, this environment looks pretty awesome.

That looks more Campaign than multi. I thought that the internal beta was just 'War Games'? If that's campaign then wtf is a build like that doing out in the wild?

I'm already feeling a little intimidated at the sheer volume of perks, specialisations, AA's and whatever else I have to consider before I enter battle. Halo's beauty was in its simplification of the FPS genre. The endless accoutrements applied before the games even started reminds me of a over-wrought PC shooter from the 90's. The exact sort of shooter Halo killed off.

Reach is just as much a full-experience "flagship" title as Halo 1, 2 and 3. I consider the gameplay additions in Reach to have added considerably to the enjoyment of the game. To simply ignore Reach and base the progression of the gameplay from Halo 3 would be (IMO) a needless step backwards.
I was just shitting around, making a jab at Reach more than anything. Even with sprint and AAs and perks and killcams and attack dog killstreaks and prestige, I'm not gonna think about Halo 4 MP in a critical fashion until it releases. If it ends up being bad, oh well, I'll just go back to TF2. There are a lot of little things that I can't make calls on until I've actually played it, even little things like how the weapons feel when shot and how satisfying it is to land kills.

Though Reach felt like a step backwards if anything. The "progression" being like a hamfisted jamming of mechanics to make the game feel like a "me too" derivative rather than Halo.

Just trying to sooth our panic at the word 'perks' I assume. They are definitely perks.

It has team scores in the bottom right of the screen. That is almost certainly multiplayer.

Ahahahahaha oh you.
It's a fact that people will be able to spawn with AAs (and perks) is it not?

What I'm trying saying is that I'm not too worried about the AAs individually being too bad (aside from camo, don't know how they'll make that work), but more the fact that everybody in the game will have them. Especially with people no longer having to pick sprint I can imagine it becoming a bit overwhelming.

It was fine. Seeing as how I've been playing Halo 3 Team Slayer very recently (not in the past month mind you, but for much of first half of this year), I can safely say it wasn't a problem. Isolation hardly popped up and when it did I don't remember anything game breaking about the regenerator. Isolation is a bad map – I don't know how any can have "fun" on it – but it wasn't made worse by the regenerator.

By now I'm convinced. 343 is making base traits and features as close to classic Halo as possible to placate the purist crowd, while adding every modern shooter convention under the sun on top of it to pull in non-fans and "casuals". You can turn off all the "non-Halo" additions and play Halo 2 HD if you wish while there will be a plethora of options available to customize your gametype with all the new stuff.

I'm looking forward to some new vehicles.

I'm not.

Wow didn't really think that anyone thought that regen was okay in Halo 3. Kind of thought that was pretty universally disliked.

Regen on top of The Pit sniper tower. Dear lord that was bad.

It's probably Spartan Ops.

Also, I know everyone hates AAs because of Reach, but that game's problems were mainly bloom and movement. With Halo 2 movement and no bloom I think everyone would be more accepting of AAs. Halo 4 has that movement and has no bloom so I think the issues people have with AAs won't be as big of a deal.

There were four major issues with Reach IMO
reticule bloom
slow player movement/low jump height/inertia
awful selection of maps
abundance of Forge World maps in matchmaking

we know the first two have been fixed and I seriously doubt the latter two will not be improved in 4.

Uh when I played team slayer people used that tactically, it spawns every 2 or 3 mins and people timed it, it popped up a lot on isolation and sucked, never seemed so bad on other maps.

When it comes to skill based ranking systems, we're looking at a few things. Rest assured it will be looked at.

Launches with no ranking system.

Don't worry guys, I'm sure they'll implement custom game browsing so that everybody gets to play what they want without having to worry about the terrible, unbalanced or broken stuff.

I'm just reporting on my experiences. The regenerator on Isolation was rarely a problem (if it is one) because Isolation rarely popped up for me.

Edit: Also, if it's "2-3 minutes" then that's not stupidly fast I don't think.

Waiting for these announcements:

- Custom games browser
- Clan support
- Guardian remake
- Massive Forge improvements
- Customization options for Spartan Ops
- New game modes/gametypes

Goddamn Conor, let the fuckin' custom game browsing go, man. You're just setting yourself up for failure, hoping for features that nobody even hinted at.

Curious as to what other info pops up on the top right of the menu. Looked like a step-by-step thing. "Selecting Playlist" was there. Curious to see how 4 expands the very useful Active Roster.

I'm one of those people that is always disappointed in the new halo but end up liking it in the end. (or tolerating it with reach)

i really don't know what to make of halo 4 anymore.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

The day that happens is the day hell freezes over.

Yeah, I think if Reach never happened people would be freaking out, but in a positive way. One bad experience with new things does not mean that all new things will be bad, and IMO most of what Halo 4 has shown looks pretty good, at least with the context we have.

Sure, it can be awful, but it can be awful without all this stuff. Im gonna wait and see, but until then Im fucking excited.

No map names or campaign spoilers? Lame.

I want some map names, but man please no SP spoilers, haha. I want that stuff fresh.

So it was the same as a power weapon then.

I didn't necessarily see a problem with it. Sure it sucked but whatever, it also sucks when the other team has rockets.

I already know what ill be rocking day 1.

Firepower (br + dmr) + autosentry = me putting the autosentry to watch my back while i just camp somewhere picking kids off with the dmr and using the br when they get a little too close.

Thanks 343!

Call of Halo. Great.

Edit: In all seriousness, I hope they will do things like ban certain Armor Abilities from specific game types and/or limit a particular AA to 2 players on a given team. That would help prevent things like teams loaded with cheap AAs.

I meant sucked in terms of how it affected gameplay, turned it sloppy as hell. Hoping halo 4 implements it in a radically different way. Looks like we already saw it a bunch in those leaked videos, seemed to be the transparent shimmering shield door looking things

Even with no bloom and Halo 2 movement, can you think of any AA that meaningfully adds something to the core experience of Halo? I always thought of AAs as something that each broke the game in their own way sans hologram.

Dude should shave his neck beard and admit he's getting his information from someone else.

Yeah, he seems to be all over the place, my guess is he has legit info but is also enjoying trolling.

He's just trolling without a shred of decent info, so he's getting it all second hand. What a joke.
