Halo |OT4| Trust's a Tough Thing to Come by These Days

I was forced into playing a non TU game against a team of armour lockers earlier... Playlist changes are sorely needed.
Well, yeah, quality of playlist offerings are kind of a mess, but I meant specifically the addition of a new, singles-only playlist when they can tweak all that on the backend with an existing system that is super underutilized.

I don't think I'd buy any excuse for the constant pairing of single randoms against teams of 8 Inheritors in the BTB playlists at this point.

So I mentioned this in the game with kittens and Retro, but since multiplayer is now being set in the Infinity during simulated field battles, how amazing
and unlikely
would it be if during the 10 second or so lull before the match starts, your Spartan is in a little pod and the map is generated in front of you like a little digital simulation. So essentially at the start of every match you see the inside of the Infinity but it builds the selected map right in front of your eyes, instead of a black screen or a stationary screen of the map.

Shit would be amazeballs.

Blackscreen with no countdown and any host change resets all the weapons is good enough™

Fuck, where is my beta invite!?

Exam in five hours. Despite everything, I've continued my "no frantic endgame studying required"-streak. Feels goodman.

The same here.Today, I have my last exam (chemistry). After that, it's 3 months of vacation!

Also, I don't get the Ready up live hate. Thought they were saying pretty reasonable things.

University revision for me was pretty much waking up at about 3am on the day of the exam and cramming like my life depended on it.

I do not miss University!

You guys still talkin' 'bout Halo 4?

If you are reading this from Waypoint it's a joke.

Remember the Bungie Swag Bags last year? Well.. remember the incredi-rare Myth Collectors Editions that a few select people managed to snag?

Any idea how someone would go about selling one of those? Is there any sort of active Myth community online these days?

I honestly don't care either way what the map names are. I don't think I've ever thought to myself "Wow, this name got through?" for a map in a released game. They're just names. It can be just about anything.

Sword Base. Laughably bad map name that sounds like a callout.

also, this last batch of leaked pics has me more worried than anything to date, and if you've been following my posts, that means a lot that i'm wavering! a full team of regen or shield users.... shudder. as someone pointed out, how exactly are these tactical packages, or "non-perks" not perks?

http://www.nowgamer.com/news/1270948/halo_4_perks_were_not_copying_call_of_duty_343.html

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is widely credited with popularising a deep system of perks in FPS multiplayer - but Halo 4 won't feature too many other similarities.

"We’re not chasing hard detail," added O'Connor. "That’s a dangerous avenue to go down because if you end up doing their thing badly then that’s twice as bad as if you hadn’t done it at all.

"So what we are doing is naturally evolving directions Halo is going in, improving on things we should have done better on last time and building on experiences appropriate to what audiences want. You’ll definitely see places where the streams cross but we’re absolutely, strategically not trying to copy anybody. I think that’s a foolish path to go down."

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-03-05-halo-4-perks-system-introduced

Frankles said:
"Some of the more revolutionary stuff that we're going to be doing is going to create more fuss, and I think it's going to be mostly positive fuss, as it's all been carefully thought out and considered."

I cling to that last statement. Watching sword sprinting eviscerate five players in half a minute wasn't a good start though.

TBH with you Henery, those players were terrible, didn't even pay attention to their radar, therefore we didn't get to see (iirc) the stopping mechanic they put into the game, the one that is supposed to alleviate situations like that.

Y'know.. maybe they're not perks.

Halo teams have always had specialisations, even really casual teams have a sniper, a driver, a CQB guy, the guy who never misses a stick etc. I guess it could be argued that this makes it more of a class based shooter, people set up their Spartan to match their playstyle and along with a team that mixes playstyles it makes it a richer experience.

So rather than perks it's more class creation, could that be what Frank was getting at when he said we shouldn't think of them as perks?

I'm not really opposed to Halo becoming class based, I'd actually thought we might get that in Reach when they first showed Noble Team. I suppose it's easy enough to disable them in certain playlists too.

Kind of random but thinking about it but with the base speed being really fast and sprint being added I think they could easily balance the shotgun to work as a starter. I mean the only reason its good in CoD is because you can get killed from it from far away, but it has never been that way in Halo.

Hopefully that was the case, I know you can't draw definitive conclusions from a scrappy leak like that. It just looked like Countdown sword sprinting from the leak.

"Carefully thought out and considered" for sword and sprint? Maybe a solution would be to disallow sprint for a sword wielder or make sprint half as fast, or sprinting with the sword should burn your sprint meter twice as fast. Things like this are needed for balance.

This sounds great in theory but in practise it often ends up with all the players on the team wanting to be 'the sniper' class. One or two sniper rifles on the match ameliorate that problem. Or, like in Reach, all four players using Armour Lock. It ruins a match.

Not sure.. If you really get two primary weapons (say DMR + shotty) I have the feeling almost every close quarter fight is gonna end with a shotgun.

Even if it doesn't turn out to be a very big problem, it still doesn't seem like a change that benefits the game.

Sprint + shotty or sprint + sword are basically RIP loadouts.

I could become a much better Halo player because of this. Dat running into someone's face and blowing their heads off.

I have such a hard time imagining shotguns being in the loadouts, they are such a power weapon.

Thinking about these selective ordnance drop's that Papa Wu mentioned.

Its fucking great really, Lets say its me (a medium skill player) Juices (a higher tier player) and 789shadow ( a lower skill player) playing.

Situation (we get the ability to spawn one weapon onto the map)

Juices is going to request a Blainer no doubt about it, kids going to shred some head.

Stalker grabs the Railgun, i dont trust my ability to aim quickly and with crazy precession in a frantic game but i think ill be able to hit the target.

Shadow wants the Rockets, he isnt the best at aiming but the splash damage is sure to net him some kills.

Its a great way to keep the game mixed up, Maps on halo currently have a sort of "meta game" where on spawn people rush to lock down power weapons which leads to betrayles and lost of waiting on the weapons spawn to kill someone with the gun you just picked up.

This way from the get go players are on Hunt to Kill mode. Weapons are spawning at intervals to make sure that people go for them and interact so the winning team cant sit and camp top grav on swordbase for fear the other team will load up on rockets and come assault them.

Iv never really had any issue with loadouts the AA's seem much more balanced this time around based on nothing we have seen or read being crazy powerful (regen field could be problomatic but ill hold out before judgement)

Edit.

So SuperMTW is telling the truth Btw.

Covenant Carbine? Awesome.

Shotgun? lolwut

Where have you been? Don't start the shotgun discussion again, it died (more or less) already...

Really wondering how Storm Rifle works, what makes it unique (other than being a plasma weapon). And what is its range, maybe we'll finally get a mid-range automatic?

Because alot of us assumed MTW was lying about it and it was never brought up again, That pic however is real and shotgun spawns are at least in the beta.

Hmm. I swear the shotgun as a spawn weapon discussion was up for rather long time. I admit that i have no idea how it ended though, i kinda lost my interest in the leaks a while back.

What if the Shotgun has more range now but less damage? You know, if it ain't one-shot kill anymore, ie not really a power weapon. Gotta take my own advice and not restart it...

I must have missed the Mtw pic Stalker just posted, my bad.

Ah, no problem. And sorry for my tone, some of this leak discussion and stuff around is somehow exasperating as it is just the normal complaints about Halo rehashed. We never really conclude those arguments...

I was talking with a friend and we were discussing how there might be two shotguns, one would be the power weapon, the same shotgun it's always been, the other would be a semi-auto, less damage, more range shotty. Obviously this didn't happen though. :p

But anyway, yeah, the base gameplay looks good, so whatever happens, as long as there's a classic playlist, I'm set.

I see someone's not a member of team downer. ha :)

But yeah I agree, and we've seen too little info to jump to big conclusions. People see things like the shield AA and freak out about how everyone will be running 'riot shields'. But we don't know anything about cooldown, the amount of damage absorption, what a sticky will do to it, what a sword will do to it, possible other AA counters, etc.

Not saying people shouldn't say if they don't like an idea, just that we shouldn't jump to 'this game is trash', 'pre-order canceled'.

edit- Also the only thing that worries be is the shotty start, but I'll wait to her about it.

Yesterday - Halo Ruined due to weapon drops
Today - eh not that bad.

It's still going to promote camping IMO. You want power weapons? You can't pick them up anymore, you need a killing spree for rockets. *Team spawns with lightshields and shotguns*

I do like that armour, but I don't like ordering from GAME, they never fail to disappoint.

Gamestation are offering it too, they have a different pic of the BR skin:

Preorder Bonus: Oceanic Armor and Battle Rifle Skins!!

Preorder Halo 4 and you will receive customisable Oceanic Armor Circuit and Battle Rifle skins.

http://www.game.co.uk/en/halo-4-limited-edition-172031

Has it been clarified anywhere exactly what the pre-order "skins" actually constitute? Does the term just mean the graphic overlay on top of the armour or does it mean the actual armour aswell?

I've been a bit confused by this. I'm hoping it is just the graphic overlay as I would never even consider pre-ordering anything from GAME.

The helmet on that GAME armour is pretty wild, not quite sure why you'd want to have a big metal cross in the middle of your face, but it looks interesting.

Skins imply graphic overlay. I wouldn't be worried, also shopto is going to be detailing theirs soon!

People don't actually think there'll be shotgun starts in MM do they? Spawning with shotguns in 4v4 Team Slayer? Nah, never, nope, won't happen, ever.

It has a kind of Bioshock Big Daddy vibe to it.

Fingers crossed that is what it means! Unless it is some form of early access I really, really dislike the idea of giving various retailers exclusive pre-order armours.

ShopTo usually have pretty decent pre-order goodies, so will be interesting to see what they've got. The US ones seemed to match the colour scheme of the retailer as did the Play.com helmet in the UK. I was hoping GAME would have an armour with horrendous pink squares all over it.
