From the back those Grunts remind me of those hump-backed Doctor Who aliens with a splash of the rip-off of those Doctor Who aliens from Star Trek Voyager.
I was born in 84 and we never prayed in class (and I wouldn't have if they tried), and the Pledge of Allegiance is some scary propaganda shit that we really shouldn't be having kids that don't know any better about participating in, but I had to do it until I graduated high school in 2002.
I like my scary us-or-them people to only exist in the UNSC's ONI. Who, if there is any justice in this world, will eventually become the big-bad of the Halo universe.
edit: as an aside I wonder how Bungie/MS get away with using ONI in game when Take 2 would have a legitimate claim against it. I guess they don't really care much about that IP anymore?

Had the pledge all the way through middle school, IIRC, although it might just have been through (private) elementary school. Certainly didn't harm me or turn me into a jingoistic crazy man.
Totally agreed about ONI, however. There's plenty of arguments to be made for and against Traviss' work thus far, but if they continue down this road ONI is begging for karmic payback of a tremendous sort. Hoping that the Chief gets enmeshed in that.
I'm looking to commentate the event once again, and have sent in an application / reel for consideration. I would consider coaching again if I found the right team, but for now, I'm really enjoying commentating and feel that it allows me to use my knowledge of the game(s) much more.
Also, the stress of coaching a top team and falling short is tough. When you commentate, it's all about watching Halo, talking about Halo, and not caring who wins as long as the matches are exciting

The Flood is omitted because it's a retelling of CE.

In Maine we just listen to a recording of it with our hands on our hearts. No singing.

Well, it was in America and most of the crowd was American, so...
They did have military dudes parachute down into the stadium beforehand to cheers and applause, which was kind of weird from a European perspective.

Still is weird that Recruit Prime is just a skin for the LE, but FOTUS armor is exclusive to the console.. Even so, the less exclusive armor the better, its not really fair on the fans that care about that stuff. The LE and LE console should honestly have the same armor/skins/emblems but whatever.

Also, just cancelled that LE pre-order. It's amazing how every single new detail revealed about it made it sound less and less appealing. "Specializations on launch day! Oh, but you need max rank anyway, lulz" "Recruit armor! Actually, it's just a skin, everybody gets the Recruit" "LE Season Pass! Just without any of the benefits the non-LE Season Pass people get"
I think I'm just gonna stick with the regular version and just wait and see if anybody is even playing the DLC a month after it comes out.
