Firstly, you're using a kind of straw man - that this stuff is "nonsense." Now you may not like it, but you should at least acknowledge that some people will actually really enjoy it. We happen to know this for a fact. And there's still a possibility, that you might actually enjoy this new stuff, or that it will simply fade from your area of botherment.

You should also acknowledge the following - that the MP has performed incredibly well in large scale and focused testing, and that many different constituents have reported excellent experiences, including pro and competitive players, even in the new stuff. This is hard empirical data, not us thinking Bravo smiled three times in a game of Infinity Slayer, but acres and acres of intensive test metrics and reports.

Secondly, the addition of lots of new players will provide many, many general improvements - better hosts, more player skill ranges, better banding and matching of players by skill and interest - even if those players are like you and presumably want a more stripped down experience. All boats rise of the tide.

Will it be perfect? No of course not, it's 2012 and Halo has too many types of player to make absolutely everyone perfectly happy, but that's an impossible task anyway. Our job is to make a game that appeals broadly AND deeply and to give players tools and varieties of experience that get as close to those ideals of taste and style as possible.

Thirdly, the logic of making a very narrowly focused game at the exclusion of all else would obviously be something that's managable at an Indie level, or as a PC game, but the reality of making a AAA console game, and the reality of a constantly evolving and growing Halo, is that it cannot be created as a niche game. However, it does contain niche ingredients and tools, within the very very broad suite of features and play experiences. You can in fact have your cake and eat it. But the idea that more players is bad, or that the core game is being dumbed down, is erroneous.

This was a really good post (and a good example that Mr O'connor is a good franchise Director), and even if I dont like some of the changes made, we as consumers need to look at the bigger picture and try to understand that 343 is developing a video game for all gamers and not just a specific group of people. and By the time i get to play the game, I really hope I can enjoy it and embrace the new changes, instead of writing it off without even trying it.

Anyway, halo time! Frankie, I don't know if you can answer this, but are you guys going to get unconventional with the environments in multiplayer at all since it's a simulation? I'm talking less unique scenarios/forerunner maps/etc and more abstract playspaces like Mirror's Edge time trials.

Make Chief find AA consoles throughout the game, but only need one to have it permanently unlocked, maybe 1 per level. Have a button (maybe the D-pad since there's no Ordnance) let you cycle through the armor abilities without having to lose them.

The first level of the Campaign looks awesome, familiar territory of just Chief, Grunts, guns and Elites. Real classic Halo. Then we get brand new enemy's; the interplay between the different prometheans is very interesting and I'm sure this Legendary runthrough will be a far more fearsome prospect than Reach.

Also, facials work in porn but dropping a load on a girls face irl... dunno, in the sexless afterglow immediately after busting, not particularly sexy.

Also, just cancelled that LE pre-order. It's amazing how every single new detail revealed about it made it sound less and less appealing. "Specializations on launch day! Oh, but you need max rank anyway, lulz" "Recruit armor! Actually, it's just a skin, everybody gets the Recruit" "LE Season Pass! Just without any of the benefits the non-LE Season Pass people get"

I think I'm just gonna stick with the regular version and just wait and see if anybody is even playing the DLC a month after it comes out.

Are you a completionist when it comes collecting armor and stuff? You miss either helmets or a couple of skins if you don't get both both the LE and standalone War Games Map Pass.
Do you like reading Halo lore in physical form? Are you fine with a poster and infocards (and maybe a booklet, judging from pics)?
Are you going to get all the DLC for sure?

If you answer yes to latter two (three) questions, you should considering getting the LE. If you're a completionist and are compelled to collect stuff, i don't know what to say or suggest anything.

I seriously doubt that. Judging from the pics, there is some good stuff but when it comes to total amount of content, it is going to be far less than Halsey's Journal which was quite long.
Of course the quality will matter... but Halsey's Journal was very good so matching it will be hard, i think. (I couldn't have said it was written by Nylund, i guess he's good with journal writing. Liked it, the only work by him i like).

Really wish we'd get an unboxing video soon, very soon.

The thing that got me with Halsey's Journal, though, was... why Nylund? It seems kind of a jerk move to make the author of the book you're retconning (along with another book you're seriously undermining) write the justifications for the retcon as well.

I somewhat want the briefing packet. I can get the season pass separately and I could care less about exclusive in-game armor and avatar armor.
